Trudeau lying about SNC

Thanks Mr USA for letting us know what we already know.

I sure hope this is the end of Trudeau and the Liberals overall.  And I hope SNC-Lavalin gets raked over the coals and slapped around. But since the government sanctioned their mafia-like activities, nothing will happen.

If Gerald Butthead quit the party and Warnick is next well then there must be something going on here that all Canadians need to hear more about. I still believe that Teflon Don Trudeau will escape from this SNLgate.

I find it funny that people expect Canadian companies to thrive when we’re so willing to undermine our own in this period of economic nationalism.  China prints its own money to build the infrastructure of the future, steals intellectual property, and controls the value of its currency to remain competitive.  The US imposes tariffs on other countries, relying on the value of its markets to other countries’ exporters.  Canada takes a gun to its businesses when they fall short of higher ethical standards than the ones businesses in other countries face.  It’s fine.  SNC head offices can move south and employ Americans instead of Canadians. You can buy your cell phones from Huawai as it commits fraud and incarcerates Canadians as political prisoners.  As the last Canadian made GM cars role off the assembly line, take heart that you can buy an imported one from the US and continue to fill it with Saudi oil.  No matter what happens legally to SNC, they won’t be building any pipelines to send Canadian oil east because there won’t be any new Canadian pipelines, as the eco warriors and hereditary chiefs maintain their roadblocks.  We may have diminishing tax revenue from our oil and gas sector, but hopefully we still have enough to spend on unemployment programs for newly unemployed auto workers and engineers.

C'mon, what you wrote didn't make sense at all. You are comparing apple to orange here

China, Huawei, are currently being dealt with under Trump. Canada would do well to follow the US model.

It doesn't help to complain about unfairness of the illegal Chinese business deals when our own PM is covering up for similar things.

But the specific issue is what he did in regards to interference, under Canadian law. This has nothing to do with China.

I agree with her on that.  Racism and mistreatment of Indigenous people is a reality.  It’s hard to know whether a jury is right or wrong without witnessing the trial or knowing all the details.  Doesn’t sound like a just outcome though.  People had stolen a van and were drinking on his property.  He reached inside the van and says his gun went off accidentally.  I guess it comes down to whether he was believable.  It’s sad and tragic.

Which is why we have judges and juries - who found what was believable and ruled accordingly.

I highly doubt that Zeitgeist knew China built ghost towns and signed all MOUs to boost the image, and every one and their dog is waiting the bubble to burst

There are 5 pages of pipeline companies in Canada, most located in AB and NONE who are criminals.  Pipelines will get built, tree hugging morons notwithsanding (yeah, that was a political joke).  Engineers would only be unemployed if they are too stupid or lazy to simply get off of the ass and apply to whatever law abiding company wins the endless barrage of federal, provincial, municipal and private project contracts.   SNC, in the meantime, will not move their head office anywhere (doe to financing restrictions) and can continue with projects around the world in shit-hole countries that allow them to bribe officials to get the work.  Why do you want to lower Canada to that level???

Oh, yeah, forgot: you work for SNC.  No other possible reason.

I’m well aware of the overbuilding in China.  It doesn’t matter because China ignores its inflationary rate.  Essentially China has been overspending and overbuilding for the past 15 years and will continue to do so.  What’s anyone going to do about it?  It’s like an endless New Deal of economic stimulation.  It’s smart because they’re creating a massive market for their own goods.  The best thing the West could do is move production from China.  We’ve become addicted to cheap Chinese goods, but other countries can make them.  China is blocking our canola, soy, and even our films, as they detain Canadians for no good reason.

The US put Canada in the middle of its trade war with China through its steel and aluminum tariffs and of course the the Huawei extradition business.  Canada has been forced to choose and of course will almost always choose the US, even as it mistreats us.  This is why Canada has to seek new markets for export.  TPP and CETA should help, but we also need to boycott the products of companies like GM that curtail production here.

Canada put itself in the middle of the trade war with its own tariffs, dumping, transshipments, and IP theft.    85% of Canadian automotive production is exported to the United States....the United States does not export 85% of anything to Canada.    Still waiting for a Canadian owned corporation to build a large auto assembly plant in the U.S.

If protecting Canadian jobs justifies a DPA for very corrupt SNC-Lavalin for you, then the same applies to Trump/U.S. actions to increase jobs and protect industries.

Proportionally, the US would have to export 8.5% of its auto production to Canada, and that is about what it does, and then some.  The industry goes back a very long way, but most of the trade between what was (maybe still is???) the largest trading partners in the world is cars and car parts, and we have always been reasonably close to in balance.

The economies of Canada and the US are far more than just neighbours, they are intimately intertwined.  We share not only language, but a considerable amount of culture and a to a large extent, our business communities.

Meh, we've become so conditioned to dealing with corrupt autocrats we'll keep barreling towards the bottom of that particular barrel wherever we go.  Remember when we were told dealing with China would make China more like the west?  SNC and it's cronies in Ottawa seem to suggest the opposite has occurred - I wonder how long the list is of other corporations that maintain similar relationships with our politicians?  I know after salmon fishing collapsed the richest billionaire in BC wound up controlling some 40% of the quota.

We put ourselves here by getting cozy with dictators. Our grandparents committed some 25% of Canada's GDP not to mention thousands and thousands of killed and wounded to fighting tyranny. I think they'ed puke if they could see how much Canada's economy is now dependent on dictatorships and how blase so many Canadians have become about it.

Old conversation.  You know that Canadian Magna employs thousands of auto workers in the US and that Canada buys as much or more from the US than the US buys from Canada.  You also know that the US has a steel and aluminum trade surplus with Canada, selling more to us than we sell to the US.  Also, Canada is the biggest export market for US goods.  IP theft?  Please.  Canadian Blackberry created the first smart phone.  The telephone was invented in Branford, Ontario.  What about insulin, basketball, hockey and even football?  Stop with those claims.  Canada has a tenth of the US population and buys as much US stuff as the Americans buy Canadian.

The supply chains are integrated.  Buick came from Oshawa.  Canadians buy in volume more autos than we produce.  In fact, we buy more vehicles made in the US than we produce.

Even if that was true, the U.S. and other foreign makers have invested far more in Canada.

China and the U.S. are now the world's largest trading partners because of the drop in oil prices.

Then they can be separated as needed for aggressive competition.   Canada remains one of the least productive G7 economies with a heavy dependence on foreign direct investment and the U.S. export market.   The U.S. is far more diversified and less dependent on exports.....Canada is even more dependent on exports as a percentage of GDP than is China.

As for culture....Mexico/Hispanics wants/are a piece of the U.S. too...so nothing special about Canada.

Old conversation...same deflections.   Canada will either compete or lose out, and so far it is losing.   (Basketball was developed by a Canadian IN THE UNITED STATES.)   Ontario auto jobs have been dwindling for many, many years.

SNC-Lavalin will not save Canada from international competition and protectionism....and neither will a continued reliance/dependence on the USA market for exports.

Hell, SNC-Lavalin already does far more business outside of Canada.

Chinese exports to the US have been the largest reason for offshoring of US manufacturing jobs.  Now, ridiculously, US auto companies are moving production to China to produce goods for the Chinese market.  Sad.

It is not sad...it is smart business...the same way that SNC-Lavalin has grown far more in international markets.

China matters more than Canada when it comes to automotive production, electric vehicles,  battery tech, etc.

Stop pretending that Canada can run with the big dogs....hell...even SNC-Lavalin has threatened to move to....wait for it....the United States.

No it was developed by a Canadian at McGill (in part).

Why do the US and Britain get to have DPA’s but not Canada?  Do you like watching JWR throw a wrench in the economy?  More to come.  She’s got big plans for land claims.  I have to put together a survey on here for what percentage of Canadians’ income they are willing to transfer to Indigenous peoples.

Because once again...Canada's Liberal ruling government screwed it up for political gain.

Everything they touch turns to crap (pipelines, carbon taxes, tariffs, western alienation, etc.).

The U.S. and British governments did not promise virtue signaling feminist bullshit to gain power.

Canada has more value in its resources for the size of its population than any country on Earth.  It “runs with the big boys” in certain sectors and has international success stories in multiple sectors, but Canada has a relatively small population.  Don’t compare apples to oranges.  And remove your steel and aluminum tariffs against Canada, which are killing the auto sector in both countries.  What you don’t seem to appreciate is that a so called American company producing vehicles in China for the Chinese market is for all intents and purposes a Chinese company.

And I'm OK with that....China...Canada...Mexico...makes no difference.

Why do you think Canada should be so special to me...or any other foreign national ?

Population excuses don't mean a damn thing...except that Canada needs far more foreign capital to extract resources and have an export market.

Trump is doing the same thing that Trudeau is doing for SNC-Lavalin jobs to stay in Canada, but you criticize Trump.   Very inconsistent.

Then you be consistent and stop pretending that SNC is especially different from any of the US and British firms doing business in Libya.  Canada has yet to exercise a DPA.  Instead we’ll send our success stories to countries that do exercise them.  Not fair.

I have never posted such a position...and don't give a damn what happens to SNC-Lavalin either way.

What I have posted are the laughable inconsistencies for previous Canadian governments and the present day fiasco.

Canada can choke on its own smug ideology while pretending to be so superior to other nations.

Slamming countries like Canada for trying to maintain high ethical standards is one reason countries like Saudi Arabia or Russia can lean on the excuse of Realpolitik to mistreat or even murder political dissidents.  Even China is making a show of stomping on human rights these days, because, how dare little Canada take a stand?

A DPA for SNC-Lavalin is not "taking a stand"...yet you are the strongest supporter here for just that...because...jobs !

Nothing special about Canada.
