paxamericana
Looks like Canada is falling out with the communist regime. Question is when is Truedua going to ask big bro trump for help? Lets not kid ourselves, there are huge perks to being an American. One of them usually involve other countries not executing you. "It is of extreme concern to us as a government, as it should be to all our international friends and allies, that China has chosen to begin to arbitrarily apply the death penalty in cases facing, as in this case, facing a Canadian," Trudeau said in a news conference following Monday's ruling. https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/14/asia/china-canadian-drugs-death-sentence-intl/index.html?no-st=1547488119 Edited January 14, 2019 by paxamericana

Zeitgeist
I'm not impressed with China and I'm not seeing enough evidence that the US will stand up to China. If China respects rule of law it would release the Canadians. If the US really stands up for democracy and allies, the President and Secretary of State would speak out in full support. Events unfolding internationally prove that democracy, freedom, rule of law, and human rights are under threat. Everyone pays the price because it says that governments can mistreat people. Now you get to see the true value of what it meant to be in America's umbrella and a taste of what China's will be. It is because of American hegemony weaker countries even get to exist. Think about that. Otherwise they would have just become vassal states to China as has happened to bordering countries surrounding China and Russia. China's goal is to make everyone part of their tributary state as has been during the Ming dynasty.

Why should the US stand up for a Canadian in China? When was the last time Canada went to bat for an American convicted of criminal activity in another country. Here's a news flash, China executes drug runners, this aint something new, they've been doing it for years. So this stupid bastard thought it would be a peachy keen idea to go to China and indulge in a little drug smuggling (222Kg of Meth) and got caught. Now he's being painted as some sort of martyr. Dougie93
There is no reason for America to stand up to China at this juncture, because America rules the waves, and so they just sail around China. If the Chinese ever actually follow through with their threats to impede freedom of navigation, then the Americans will have to slap them down. So far China talks a big game, but when the Americans roll through they just throw a tantrum on the radio while the Americans simply ignore them. bush_cheney2004
Canada has an opportunity to "save face" and this extremely stupid drug dealer's life by giving up Weng before this gets more serious. Far better to risk some nasty tweets from Trump. Team Trudeau needs to stop being so naive. Let Weng slip out of the country after cutting a backroom deal with China. Done.

The Americans cut them out of that option by going over their heads straight to the judiciary and so now CSIS cannot get involved with covert operations because CSIS is for obvious reasons prohibited from conducting operations against their own Crown on behalf of China, because that is actually treason. Well it doesn't surprise me when the nanny socialist welfare gulag operates lawlessly to serve their overlords in Beijing, but this is all inclusive to why I left said fake country to live as an UKUSSAN under the protection and in defence of the Constitution of the Republic of the United States of America and associated Shot Heard Round the World Creator endowed rights. As we live in the 21st century information age there is simply no cause to bother the American people for a passport because I live in UKUSSA by way of the House of Windsor. Too bad for them...Syria is not America's domain or influence, just any threats to actual allies in the region. Canada/Trudeau recalled its squadron of CF-18s from strike missions in Iraq/Syria long ago. Trump told Mattis to get out of Syria as soon as possible....Canada sure did. I don't know why Trump is being held to a higher moral/leadership standard than other "western" leaders for this and other issues.

No it’s that internationally it looks like the US is letting the Russians be the stabilization force in the region, propping up a dictator. The US under Obama and Canada denounced Assad. More importantly, ISIS is bad news for America and the region, let alone US allies. If US forces wanted to exit, it should’ve been a subtle exit. It reminds me of Bush landing on an aircraft carrier and announcing US victory and the end of US operations in Iraq. It was far from the end. Trump’s move was amateurish. Correct...Syria has been part of the Soviet/Russian sphere for a long time, if only because Russia needs a warm water naval base for the Med. There is nothing new about this or difference just because Trump is the U.S. president. Quote The US under Obama and Canada denounced Assad. OftenWrong
This behaviour by China will only alienate them further from the free world, as it's likely that any Canadians or Americans now working there are having serious thoughts about making an exit. Others might not want to go there out of fear they too could be detained, since the Chinese government demonstrates how they will lash out in revenge at anyone if there is an international incident. This incident exposes China's true face to the world, but if anything good comes out of it, it's that people will stop being naive about China and might stop doing business with them. Such people should have never been so naive or become so complacent to begin with. China will continue to pursue its globalist objectives for resources and export markets, and I don't think this or other incidents will change the underlying economic dynamic.
