The Slow Painful Death of the Trump Administration

The second is the growing unrest in the US cause by the Trump shutdown.  The most recent polls have shown that most Americans believe Trump is responsible for the shutdown by a ratio of almost 2 to 1.

Actually, 82% of polled Americans report that the shutdown is not causing them any great inconvenience.

Trump already said he wants to be responsible for the shutdown.

18% of Americans amounts to almost 60 million people even though only 800,000 federal workers are not being paid.  That is bordering on a serious issue even if no one else is affected, which is unlikely.  And since the shutdown began Trump has been constantly attempting to shift the blame.

This is not America's first rodeo for government shutdowns, or opportunity to score political points on either side.   The last time this happened, Democrats were blamed for shutting down the government to protect illegals...so now Trump is shutting down the government to stop more illegals from crossing the border.

So far, it has zero impact on a "vast majority" of American lives....could go much longer.   Might even save some money.

You have a problem if you think 60 harming 60 million Americans saves some money.  Want a few examples?

Farmers already hurt by Trump’s trade war prepare for more pain — from the government shutdown

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/14/government-shutdown-could-cause-more-pain-for-us-farmers.html

How Donald Trump’s shutdown also hurts the millions of Americans who work in the private sector

https://www.salon.com/2019/01/08/heres-how-trumps-shutdown-hurts-millions-of-americans-who-work-in-the-private-sector_partner/

The Trump shutdown is the equivalent of tossing a stone into a pond.  Its ripples spread out affecting more and more people.  Three weeks ago it only affected 800,000 people, now it is 60 million and it is not going to stop there.

Better find a lot more...because Trump is holding fast so far.     "60 million" means nothing in the context of actual wages and productivity hits.

Life at the local and even state level is not beholden to the portion of federal outlays that have not already been funded...about 75% is still flowing.

Take the walls away from the prisons and see how many convicts are still in prison after a few days.

Smart-ass responses aside, I'm genuinely happy that you and I agree!  You, me and Trump are like a big happy family.  You've made the point thoroughly, over and over, that a wall by itself will not stop illegal immigration.  Trump and I have been saying all along that a comprehensive, multi-faceted plan is necessary to stop illegal immigration.  Just one component of the plan by itself is not enough.  Hopefully his E-Verify push this coming year will live up to it's expectations.  It has proven effective where it's been used, due to the supply & demand that you've been referring to, so here's hopin'.  I expect that Nancy will call it immoral and say that it doesn't work.  Please correct her when she says that!

Trump and I huh? All I heard was mob sheep chanting in lockstep Mexico  would pay. Oh and lock her up ,

As a matter of fact you and putins puppet haven’t submitted a plan or request for wall funding for 2 years while gop controlled congress, and no one listens to what trump says anymore because he lies all the time. So you and trump I’m sure have a fantastic plan for some wall never before seen in history, the greatest wall of all time,

To bad you never wrote it down   or presented it to congress. 2 years total gop control.

I don’t mind if trump insults your intelligence but I would prefer if you didn’t insult mine. I’m not into that lockstep chanting humilation,

You must live in this forum.  I only check it when I'm bored.

However, I have found a lot more and you are missing the point of my OP; that the shutdown is hurting Trump and the GOP more than it hurts the Democrats.  As I said, a couple more nails in the Trump coffin.

Here is some of the more.  I wonder how long it will take the GOP to crack.

Agreed.....this government shutdown is hurting Trump and the GOP more than the Democrats.   Same as the last one that hurt Democrats more.

So what ?     Did you think that political grandstanding had taken a vacation for either party ?

Trump wants to build on his case that Democrats are soft on border security and stopping illegals...mission accomplished.

Mission failed.  Most Americans think the shutdown was unnecessary.  And since Trump blundered by taking responsibility for the shutdown it is having exactly the effect I stated; that of pushing him closer to the complete failure of his presidency.

Okay...then other presidents were complete failures as well...because of "shutdowns".

Thank you for pointing out that Trump is just like many other American presidents.

Trolling appears to be your specialty.  The OP was how much the shutdown and Trump's other idiotic actions serve to weaken his presidency.  Nothing you have posted in any way refutes that.  Kindly reply when you can manage to stay on topic.

Sorry, but Trump just keeps on going like the Energizer® Bunny.    Kindly let us know when he is no longer POTUS.

Trump actually gained a seat in the Senate, and lost far fewer seats in the House than did Obama in 2010.   Republicans still have control of many state governors and legislatures.    The Democrats dug themselves quite a hole to climb out of.

Why don’t you tell the whole truth that dems got far more votes than trump did ?

never mind I know why.

Because I already said so.    Democrats still lost.

40 seats they gained in the house. But more importantly, they received a far greater share of the vote than republicans did during the last mid terms which if you weren’t perverting democracy with gerrymandering would have translated into far  more seats. But we know what republicans are all about don’t we? Look at n Carolina

Too bad...the Dems actually lost a seat in the Senate and Trump's party did far better than Obama's in 2010....not even close.

GOP still controls the presidency, Senate, and a large majority of states.    How is Justice Ginsburg doing today ?

Trump already had the senate which wasn’t up for grabs or he wouldn’t have.

trump lost a huge  amount of support in the house and  across a the nation in legislatures, Putin isn’t happy about that,

Now Trump has more of the Senate, more of the Supreme Court, and the same base that elected him in 2016.

The Democrats can't even figure out who should run against him in 2020....old vs. new....moderate vs. socialist.

Trump still matters a lot more to the world than Trudeau (speaking of humiliation).   Even Putin knows that.
