Thanks to The Liberals Canadians Will Need

I would agree that your math is not too good, Argus. Don't worry too much about it; you can always use a calculator.

What is of more concern is your logic. That seems to be even weaker than your arithmetic. 50 (if 2%) x 5.3 million is 265 million or almost the entire population of the US and, unless they have reduced the minimum age for work to about 1 year old, I would think it rather more than 2%.

However, that is not the point. Under Bush, the number of unemployed has risen by several million already. It would be a disaster for the Republicans to lose a whole lot more. Bush may not care but a lot of others who would like to be reelected do.

That is where you need to think beyond numbers and to apply logic to them. Even your day trippers argument falls down since you have ignored my statement of possibility that Canadians will spend the money in Canada if they do not cross the border - a double benefit.

I take it you don't wish to dispute the other issues I brought up?

Swell. And how much of that is tourism? Precious little. Canadian tourism is not particularly important to them. American tourism is extremely important to us. Furthermore, as I've already pointed out, most of our tourism is weather related. Canadians are going to continue going south for their holidays in the winter regardless of how long the wait at the border is. But now, with out much higher dollar combining with the problems at the border, fewer Americans will come here. And to repeat, because it seems needful with you, American tourists make up a far higher number of our trade than Canadians do of theirs anyway.

I'm sorry. What other idiotic issues did you raise? That we sell them oil? And that has what to do with this? Are we going to stop selling them oil? Then they'll buy it elsewhere. It's a world market, you know. And of course, that presumes that Alberta doesn't revolt if we tried to stop it.

You are raising issues of a trade war which is completely unwinnable in a discussion over border waits and the requirement that we get passports. Maybe you should try dealing with the actual substance of the thread rather than trying to bring in issues that aren't related to it. Unless, of course, you are proposing that we cut our collective throats and engage in a trade war in our indignation over needing passports to get into the US.
