True, but what percentage of those involved in crime are from that subset? It is countries like Canada and Mexico that are victims of smuggling of weapons from the US, not the other way around.

Guns are an international commodity....they flow across the borders of many countries...legally and illegally.

Canadians and Mexicans smuggle drugs for guns.

Either way, guns don't know or care if they are legal or not.

ATF have done extensive studies about where guns involved in crimes come from. Certainly states with lax gun laws (Georgia, Alabama, Texas, etc.) are a big source, and many come from in state. They have extensive data on the state to state traffic, and tracing of guns involved in crimes in other countries traced back to the states but I don't see much about foreign guns smuggled into the US. One interesting statistic is the time from the last legal owner to the crime is 9.79 years.

Firearms are smuggled into the U.S., especially those weapons with severe restrictions.

Here is a "cite" for automatic rifles smuggled into the U.S. from China:

No matter, as firearms are readily available and legally owned/carried by Americans.

The issue in Anerica is not owning a gun. It is making it readily available to those who are just not mentally ok....

And then there is the state of Texas where students are allowed to carry a gun. Imagine if they don’t like their teacher. They can simply shoot them. That’s just crazy!

And Americans smuggle drugs in exchange for guns.

CIA involvement in trafficking is usually alleged to be connected to the Contra war in Nicaragua during the Reagan Administration, which acknowledged in 1986 that funds from cocaine smuggling had helped fund the Contra rebels,

No doubt they are, and certainly there are a number unknown origin as well in the crime tracing the ATF does but he majority are not.

Firearms are manufactured in the U.S. and legally imported from many nations.

The market is huge...and legal.   The ammo is...fresh...can even buy it at Walmart.

It is illegal to shoot your teacher....even in Texas.    That's how much laws matter to criminals and crazy people.

The sons of a Canadian diplomat were involved in a gun homicide in Miami...that also was "illegal".

And Canadians/Mexicans dig tunnels under the border to smuggle both....and humans.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Federal agents have closed down the first known smuggling tunnel under the U.S.-Canada border and arrested on drug charges the three Canadians who allegedly built it, law enforcement authorities said Thursday.

A person that is not mentally fit does not give a hoot about laws. There should be a law about making guns available to those whi have a history of mental issues.

As for the state of Texas I think it was a stupid idea to allow students to carry guns regardless if the act of killing someone is a crime!

The United States has a rate of firearm homicide which is 25 times higher than the average of high-income nations, and which is 50-100 times higher than several other highly developed nations like Japan or the United Kingdom which have highly restrictive gun laws.

It is very shortsighted of them and frankly can not see the rational to allow this cowboy mentality.

Well guess what allowing to buy guns in a country like US can only lead to one outcome. That is selling more guns for security and protection of every individual, gang, group or cults to the point that there will be no respect for human lives...

On the contrary...All the warning signs were there and still...

A day after yet another school shooting left17 dead at a South Florida high school, more questions emerged Thursday about the suspect's mental health and possible warning signs he left on social media.

The FBI received at least two reports that Nikolas Cruz -- the 19-year-old man accused of gunning down students and staff with a rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Wednesday afternoon -- may have posed a threat before the shooting, a law enforcement source told CNN on condition of anonymity.

Restricting the mentally ill from having guns serves the same purpose as having gun control .... being that there is so many nuts in the states there would be very few Americans that could have guns.....bingo problem solved.

That's right...and still it happened.

So much for prevention by notifying the "authorities".

The reality is that any American with a gun can shoot people if they decide to do so, and there is nothing that can be done about it.

Gun suicide numbers are greater than homicides.

No it doesn't...lots of perfectly sane Americans use firearms on a frequent basis, including shooting perps.

There are 82 gun deaths in the U.S. on average...every day.

Who gets to decide who is 'mentally ill'?

A transgender certainly gets more respect and sympathy from society than a white male, so yeah, it might be worth the change.

I don't know, I suspect being transgendered will be a red-flag for some folks when it comes to background checks before acquiring a gun.

Do you not agree that banning assault rifles and guns that have high capacity clips would be a good start ..you wouldn't prevent all deaths but you would severely reduce the dead count.
