Funny thing is, Brown is a teetotaler.    I wonder why the accusers didn't go to the police, why go to the media first unless it was strictly for political reasons.

They didn't go to the media, the media went to them based on rumors circulating. As to why not going to the police, that has been discussed in detail many times before.

These allegations are unsubstantiated and the accusers are anonymous.

It all could be fake for all we know. But now a man's political career is ruined because his associates jumped ship before he could even publicly deny the allegations.

This is the climate we live in now. It's shocking how anyone would want to get involved in public life.

What's funny is that at the same time any sexual discretion can come back to ruin your life years later, young people seem very open about sexuality and sending pornographic images of themselves to strangers.

Go to the police and report what exactly? From the reports he backed off as soon as they said no.

Yes, details are not that clear but one I found is that the first accuser is 29 today, or 10 years younger than Brown.

So if that's right then 28 propositioning an 18 year old. Not something her father would have liked but not really very unusual, esp for an unmarried guy.

When I was young and unmarried, I never approached someone 10 years my junior, got them drunk and invited them into my house, locked the door, dropped my pants and said "suck on this". That is not an acceptable proposition. Again I don't know the veracity of this accusation, but as described it is totally unacceptable in my book.

'Got them drunk". There is no suggestion in that particular incident that he had anything to do with her being drunk. All it said was he met her at a bar where she had been drinking. The part about 'locked the door' seems included to make it sound menacing given there is no indication that he refused to take no for an answer or even pressured her. I also doubt he just out of the blue dropped his pants and said suck this. That would not to me, seem to be an invitation likely to be rewarded.

I also find the way this is presented "he got her drunk" not "she got drunk" and "he invited her to his home" not "she agreed to go to his house" to be an indication of the disjointed way our society views sex between men and women. We're constantly told women are equals in all things, but when it comes to sex that all changes. Then they're dainty, delicate, helpless children who are ever preyed upon by cruel and lascivious men!

I would have the same opinion of a 28 year old cougar coming onto a high school guy. I suggest you reread the report of the original incident, because you have some of the alleged facts wrong:

Quote

Brown then invited them back to his home and provided them with alcohol, though the woman was under the legal drinking age at the time.

She says she was drunk when Brown invited her for a tour of his home. When the pair entered the bedroom, Brown closed the door and exposed his penis to her.

"He pulled down his pants said, and I don’t know if he said 'suck my dick' or 'put this in your mouth,' but something along those lines,” she said.

The woman alleges that he then asked her to perform oral sex, which she did for a short time before stopping.

“It was like a controlling thing… like I just remember I wanted to go, but that wasn’t happening."

She says she then left his house and went to a nearby friend’s place.

"He's an old, single, politician preying on young girls. He’s just a sad person," the now-29 year old said.

Again I have no idea about the veracity of this claim. While I disagree with many political positions Brown has had in the past, this is the first time I have seen anything that reflects negatively on his character so I would not jump to any conclusion here. This however is not a single he said/she said incident so dismissing the allegations as having zero credibility, or part of some grand political conspiracy, is not justified.

Apparently there were rumours about Brown. This didn't come out of nowhere.

The timing is quite odd though. Almost as if it helps the PCs. There's no time for the Alt-Right crowd to shoehorn another guy into the leadership.

The leader will either be a woman (Macleod, Mulroney, Elliot) or Vic Fidelli, who's a GTA media darling.

Since I haven't heard any conspiracy theories yet, I will start one. I wouldn't be surprised if Doug Ford paid these ladies to make accusations to provide an opening for him.

b.t.w. Brown resigned an hour ago.

Go away.

Which is hardly a new thing for MSM

It's a great article although the focus doesn't appear to be on MSM. Did you see the pothead picture in there, the first thing I though without reading the caption was what does Jake Paul (or his dip brother) have to do with propaganda.

Yeah, he already started campaigning, the officials at city hall were trying to tell him to stop because you are not allowed to campaign outside of campaign season, but he continued sighting that Tory is on TV campaigning every day.  What is really interesting to me, is that you will have two conservative candidates in the largest liberal strong hold running for office and one will most certainly win. Tory couldn't win a vote in Toronto as premier but won as mayor, go figures.

John Doyle was certainly not impressed with Patrick Brown's news conference last night. I have yet to actually watch it, but the description sounds about what I have heard elsewhere.

Concerning Caroline Mulroney, she is not well known by the general public so running for leadership without even spending a few years as an MPP she seems to be trading on daddy's name. The problem there is if she wants to do that then she also deserves to be tarred with daddy's reputation as well. I think she would be better off having a few years in the public eye under her belt first, and then we can look at her on her own terms. Right now she is the acclaimed PC candidate in a riding, but has yet to even win the seat (current holder Julia Munroe will retire at the end of the term). Mulroney sounds bright and energetic, and her experience as a lawyer and hedge fund manager provide a good resume, but the lack of exposure will hurt her.

Why? It's not like 10 years is May/December. Is there some sort of time limit to sex for those who are over the age of consent? Eighteen is old enough to consent to appear in a porno movie, but not to have sex with a 28  year old man? Do you think the age of consent needs to be raised?

I've never been a fan of his but it strikes me that these women are being called "victims" and I'm wondering just what they're victims of other than attempted seduction. They've being called "brave" for anonymously relating stories of some guy trying to seduce them years ago, thereby changing the political landscape and destroying his career. And we have no way to verify their stories or to examine their characters, their ideology, history or motivations.

Didn't the current incumbent lose the provincial election then come back to win the mayoral election?

No, again you are confusing legal with proper. 10 years means very little between 50 & 60, but when you are much younger it is far more significant. We don't know what the exact ages were so lets not try to color it by guessing.

As I stated earlier, the story as described is not attempted seduction.

Are you trying to imply something with ideology? Why is it even a question here? We know that one worked in his office so we can make some assumptions there, but again why is it even considered, it is irrelevant.

I was just listening to 640AM on the way home and they were talking to Lisa Raitt. They asked if she would take the position of party leader and although she didn't come right out and say she would, she did indicate that she was open to the proposition (oops, maybe I should have worded that differently). Her main point was that it was a decision to be made by the party leaders. However she did indicate that if asked she would do it. After watching her regularly crush Trudeau in QP I think she would be a very strong choice, certainly more than a match for Wynne. We'll just have to wait and see.
