Hollywood: Weinstein vs Netflix

August1991

Recommended Posts

As much as I dislike hypocritical people such as Weinstein or Polanski, I must admit that they have talent.

People such as Clooney or organizations such as Netflix, they are also hypocrites - but sadly lack talent.

=====

When I see that a show is "Netflix Produced", for me, that is a sign that it is "progressive" - but worse, it is mediocre.

Most of it is far less than mediocre, so may as well vertically integrate for a larger share of the ticket/subscription revenue.   Canada just wants Netflix to keep contributing to a cancon pool of money that guarantees far worse than mediocre.

So much content....so much crap.

They raped, victimized women, including children but their salient crime, as per your statement, is their 'hypocrisy'.  You are a product of the internet age, my friend, wherein supplemental (digital) points of view reveal secrets that the 'system' would have previously kept secret are revealed.
Your trust in them is broken, Eve has offered you the apple, you have bitten, your eyes are opened !

Clooney is successful, and talented as an actor (IMO, of course.  I don't find his direction to be notable) and Netflix makes movies like HBO, or Hollywood in general.  Making a creative endeavour is a high-risk affair.  High profile failures happen frequently, as do surprise no-name successes.

There are lots of good Netflix shows.  The producer doesn't matter, it's the work of the director/writer putting the actors in place, and putting humanity and spirit into the characters.

Not sure why you have it in for Netflix now.  They have all the same stars as Hollywood.   And what is has to do with Weinstein is anybody's guess.

God knows what kind of person Mozart was. Apparently, Einstein was nice - but mistreated his wife

Isaac Newton was obviously autistic. Impossible to live with. (Leibnitz was popular... )

Voltaire? My favourite - smart, he had a sense of humour. And by all accounts, he was pleasant, civilised. Respectful. But understanding.

I think Voltaire said to Rousseau, I translate: "I have ended all my affairs with a kiss on the hand while you have started all yours with such."

=====

Michael, there are two basic assumptions in this phrase of Voltaire, and one question:

Original/Ambitious Men.

Original/Ambitious Women.

What next?

It has gotten very quiet these days in the left wing liberal fake media about Weinstein. It is like a cover up is in the works. I am getting the feeling that the pervert will get away with what he has done to all those women in Hollywood. I think that the deep zionist state will be circling the wagons around the pervert, and hope all of what the pervert has done will go away and be forgotten. I am pretty sure that the left wing fake liberal media will be doing their best to try and ignore what happened. Only one of them can get away with what they do.

Still waiting for Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel to start delivering their relentless attacks on Hollywood's finest perverts.

That will be the bloody day. They would prefer to spare the perverts any humiliation because liberals look after each other. Now let's get back to attacking Trump. Chuckle-chuckle.

IMHO, people like Weinstein have talent, an ability to choose/pick winners.

It is the others, without talent, who gravitated to Weinstein - Well, welcome to life.

Suddenly, the old school Hollywood pornographers seem just a bit more righteous and consistent.

Also gotta give props to Cosby for being a good actor. Sanduski for being a good coach. I mean , as you said, gotta recognize the talent!.  Oh, throw in some Chris Brown,, and now add Kevin Spacey to the list!

I can have several ideas in my head at the same time.  Cosby, Polanski are artists for the ages.  The others not so much.  All are vile predators.  The drive to moralize is strong, I get that.

Weinsteins only talent is that he was very good at sexually violating innocent women. Those that gravitated to the pervert never thought that in the end they would have to get on their knees to try and get a part in some movie in Hollyweird. Welcome to life alright? Weinsteins life.

You're kidding, right? You use the STANDARD cliche for that has been around as long as Hollywood but you suggest that no one ever figured they might have to actually do the deed?!!

I am pretty sure that many women did not expect that they would have to do the nasty deed. But some probably knew what it takes to get a job in Hollyweird, and did what had to be done.

Does that tell you something about Hollywood or the people running it? :D

Obviously it is that one special interest group of people that are running Hollyweird and who were behind and supported all of this Weinstein stuff going on. All Hollyweird does these days is show plenty of movies with gun violence, and yet it is these same Hollyweird pro-liberal/democratic creatures who are always the ones behind and pushing for more gun control.

It would appear as though they can't seem to make up their minds and appear quite confused. Either they are for less guns and gun violence and if so why do they keep making movies with plenty of gun violence.

Even Trump has no love for Hollyweird, and the things that go on in that house of pornography and gun violence. Kudos and thumbs up for Trump. Aw well.

My position, hot enough, is a principled one. The principle involved is simple: people have a right to be secure in their persons and free from coercion. If you think I’m engaging in some kind of moral relativism that blows with the winds of political fashion, you’re not thinking very straight.

Ever since Weinstein's dirty secrets were unearthed, male celebrities are getting abolished in the press at an astronomical rate.

- Harvey Weinstein
- Dustin Hoffman
- George Takei
- Kevin Spacey
- Louis CK
- Jeremy Piven
- Richard Dreyfus
- Brett Ratner (X-Men director)
And a massive amount of producers/directors.

In some cases, they're being accused of rape, in other cases sexual assault, and in other cases, sexual harassment.
So, what does it all mean? What are the ramifications.

On the plus side, this will change the way that Hollywood operates. The casting couch should be a thing of the past. Talent may actually dictate who rises to the top.
US acting talent may become on par with that of the UK going forward. And no one should be put in a position to have to choose between putting up with unwanted advances and their career.

Also, some serial predators will likely end up in jail, or at least removed from any position of power.

In terms of potential negatives,

The news cycle is so hungry to see this saga continue, that we're lumping in relatively harmless incidents with serial predators. Asking a woman out on a date multiple times, slapping someone on the ass, misreading the signs and trying to kiss someone spontaneously, are all being treated like serious crimes, because the new powers-that-be are so keen to distance themselves from any taint of sexual predators, that they are instantly believing every accusation, and treating all perpetrators like serial rapists, regardless of the frequency or extent of the incident.

I think the role of the media is understated these days. Long ago in the past the media at least attempted to report facts without bias. Today the main focus is profit driven, and they (media outlets) have whipped each other up into a "frenzy" through competition for viewership, competition seen as "healthy" in the capitalist model here possibly infringes on people's rights. It can even be dangerous... you get accused of something like sexual harassment in the media, you can expect some anonymous threatening phone calls. Secondly, the right to a fair trial is compromised. So while it's important that people feel safe identify real offenders, it's important too to recognise there's plenty of opportunity for abuse in this environment.
