It keeps news media focused on shiny things, instead of other issues.

Why did Obama lie about Americans being able to keep their health insurance and doctors ?

Did he?

Why are so many Americans so willing to accept, support, condone and excuse Trump's behavior because one of the Clintons or Obama did something unethical?   If, at the time, the Republicans held them to the fire for lies or unethical behavior, why do they now support Trump for the same or worse?    Why not expect all politicians to exhibit honest and ethical behavior regardless of their, or your, party affiliation?

Because they want to, having grown tired of the same old BS from Washington and politicians.   Just blow it all up and start over.

Lying is a requirement for the job.

If "blowing it all up and starting over" results in the US losing its stature and becoming subordinate to other countries, is the "blowing up" worth it?

Yes....why are some Canadians obsessed with this notion, just like Trump ?   What does "stature" mean in this context ?

Is Canada not already subordinated ?   Is it a bad thing to be residue from a failed British Empire ?

Exactly my point.  Would Americans be pleased with their choice of blowing it all up if it resulted in a position similar to Canada's vis-a-vis Russia or China?

Both Clintons are lying liars who lie.

The comparison has been made many times and independent fact checkers have shown that Trump lies almost every single time he opens his mouth. As is the topic....he is a compulsive liar, not your run of the mill dishonest spinster.

Maybe...being top dog all time is getting really expensive.   'Tis better to have been a superpower and failed, than never to have been one at all.

So ?   Lying is lying...a distinction without a difference.   May the best liar win...and he did.

Sure, I can understand that.   I certainly don't want to live in a 'Superpower' country.   And it is true that the rest of the world puts a lot of expectation on the States.

I dunno about that.   If my kid lied about taking a cookie, that would be one thing.  If they lied about spending my retirement fund, that would be something else.   All politicians lie, sure, but Trump's lying is in a class of its own.   Pretending it's the same is like saying a summer shower is the same as a hurricane.

Agreed, but that is Trump's strategy...good or bad...and it has been working for him.   I liken it to something we did all the time in military operations and war college...purposeful disinformation, misdirection, obfuscation, half-truths, and bold face lies.

Trump would not be Trump without this aspect of his character and behaviour.

No he wouldn't be, that is true.   But is he doing it on purpose, or is he just an idiot?   Perhaps a question still to be answered.

I'm not sure it matters....Trump is what he is, and despite the lying, ironically appeared far more genuine to voters than Hillary Clinton.

What about the ones who are on this website who don't seem to be poor or uneducated?

One can have lots of formal education but still be relatively uneducated.  I encounter them both on the left and the right.  Leftist university ph.d students who had never set foot outside a university who think we can just tax businesses in highly socialistic ways like employer paying for more maternity leave.  They just don't get the real world. They are not educated.

But it did matter to liberals for lying Clinton....and she lost the election.

It did matter, but it was a comparison, Trump is a far worse liar, Clinton is very bad, many of Trump's vote came from liberal crossovers disgusted with clinton, and much more just stayed home.

Right...Trump beat Clinton at the lying game.   Two bad candidates with only one winner.   Trump had the advantage of not being a lying politician...for life.    Clinton lied while in office...about important stuff.

Nah.

Trump's lies didn't matter because Republican voters have never cared about lying.  They vote for an attitude.

Clinton's lies mattered because democratic voters vote based on logic.  Clinton bad mouthed African Americans, coal, working class females (bake cookie comment), ignored crucial mid west states and cities and chased a non-existent Republican swing vote who use to vote for democrats when her husband ran. I am talking about the kind of republicans who would cross over and vote for democrats to turn states like Louisiana blue.  Those voters no longer exist in large enough numbers to win an election.

Why would anyone vote for her when she bad mouth them?  There was a reason she was chasing the latino vote in Arizona and Florida, she knew she blew the african american vote so was hoping latinos would save her in florida and arizona.  Internal polls were showing she blew the vote with them so she skipped Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan knowing these states could not be won without their votes. She skipped key cities in Florida she needed.  She had a terrible out of touch strategy.

Trump was a bad candidate, but Hilary was plain terrible, she rigged the election against Bernie, she could barely win, she was protected by the dnc.  It just goes to show, protecting a candidate from attacks in the primaries is a bad idea.  DNC told Bernie to go easy on Clinton's on the emails, and it was a big factor in her losing.  I'm not saying Bernie would have won for sure either, you never know, but at least they'd not have 30 years of dirt to throw on him.

But it wasn't just about Republican voters (see your comments above).   Trump lied while attacking Clinton and other Republicans for lying.
