No, clearly Canada is more dependent on the United States....economically, defense, transportation, telecommunications, popular culture, media, etc.

Need a few extra states? A few provinces out west might easily be made part of the Union with a tempting offer. Straight on thru to Alaska w/o pesky borders...

:)

I only half kid....

Canada signals possible U.S. trade deal that excludes Mexico to avoid ‘collateral damage’

....Also "kicking Mexico out" (if it indeed happens) would be a pretty good deal for both the US and Canada tbh.

Great post...and very interesting that Canada has acted so quickly to get on the Trump bi-lateral train and stab Mexico in the back.

Team Trudeau is scrambling big time....'bout to get real up in here on trade.

I'm all for fair trade but I'm not surprised in the least to see Ottawa position Canada as a toady to Trump's administration when it comes to weaker nations.

Canada will now appear weak and as untrustworthy as the US, as it should.

There can't exist a fair trade agreement between a country with a minimum wage of 10-13$ an hour with a country with a minimum wage of 4$ A DAY (!!!). The States have a lower minimum wage than ours for the most part (depending on the state-province you're comparing), but it's at least in the same ball park. Our provinces can compete with tax breaks or aiming to reduce interest or any other economic strategy to attract business to this side of the border. With Mexico it's simply impossible to compete. They get the labour (to the detriment of our working class), we get slightly cheaper products that don't even begin to compensate for the loss of manufacturing jobs Canada has suffered since NAFTA was signed.

I could have told you that 30 or more ago.

I suppose this obvious realization will resemble the duh moment that occurs when Florida slips below sea level.

It's a little rich, no pun intended, to see these sorts of rationalizations for fair trade now coming from the very same elites who hoodwinked everyone 30 years ago.  I'd rather we strip the elites of their wealth to pay for the transition to a fair global economy than turn around and try to recoup our losses, which are far more political and imaginary now, by pulling the rug out from under the developing world.

I'm not surprised at all.....Team Trudeau is in a full on panic.    Trump is calling the shots now.

TPP...dead.   NAFTA....renegotiate...or it will be dead too.    No bluffing like we see with weakling Canadian politicians.

Equating sexual assault to accidentally bumping someone...  brilliant stuff.  Truly Trumpian fashion!

PM Justin Trudeau supports the TPP and did nothing to stop it, encouraging TPP ratification by Canada.

President Donald Trump squashed the TPP like a bug on his first day of work.

Canada's TPP is no more.....

Perhaps you forgot to mention the 11 other countries involved including the US. Are you that unaware or is it just that Canada obsession rearing it's ugly head once more? eh.

U.S. is no longer involved, and the treaty requires U.S. and Japanese participation to remain valid....not Canada.   Canada's PM cowardly supported this affront on "North American" workers and lacked the resolve to stop it.   NAFTA will go down unless Trudeau's junior varsity team wises up.

How would they ever compete with a man with a degree from Trump U?

Trudeau sure can't....Canada's PM is not qualified to compete on the international level.   Most other substitute drama teachers can't either.

Trump has cut deals all over the world, and now that the TPP is dead (doesn't matter what Canada does now), NAFTA is up next.

Trump is playing his favorite song...and Trudeau will dance.

I guess that's how he got CETA done?

99% of the CETA work was done by PM Harper's team....not junior varsity Trudeau with crying trade minister.

Maybe check the signature om the deal. And just a reminder, it involves trade with a community a little over twice the size of the US.

Then why is Trudeau and his junior varsity team panicked over TPP and NAFTA ?  Canada exports 75% to the U.S., not the EU.

Perhaps you cam explain who you refer to with this varsity team comment. But in the meantime, did you know that 35 of your states have Canada as their #1 export market? If Trumpy boy gets out of hand we know where we can take our business.

If Trudeau "boy" and his JUNIOR varsity team ever figure out what has hit them, they won't even be able to export elsewhere.   Half of Canada's production capacity is foreign owned.   Canada is a minor player, with a junior varsity team.

And now you have the Trump varsity team.  Good luck with that.
