They would be the extremist right wing who 'don't believe' in homosexuality, women's rights, etc.

We already have such far right 'social conservatives' in Canada.

If they can't pass the screening, should they be deported, and if so, where?

Hint: I'm being facetious Argus.

My point is that you can't screen out and refuse immigrants who hold views that are also held by right wing Canadians.

This ridiculous idea from Kellie Leitch, a Conservative MP, has already been shot down by another Conservative MP who holds the very views that she wants to screen out.

The whole ides is ridiculous, a non starter.

.

Why not? Do you prefer to see right wing extremist new comers inflating the ranks of the conservatives? ;)

What is the need for Canada to import people who think gays should be slaughtered? Maybe we are missing the chance to have someone meeting our ideals because that extremist took the place.

For those who are already here, they have a grandfather clause. This is very common in with the justice. When a new rule arrives, some people can have a Droit Acquis (sorry I do not know the expression in english). For example, if a city passes a law that the citizens can no longer have a caravan on their land, all the people having a caravan prior the law benefit from the exception.

It happens often in many circumstances. When the rules of an admission are changed, the people already admitted are not affected. It only screens the new comers. That is very common.

I do not believe in the efficiency proposed in this thread but, I do not agree with your point either. I am way more concerned about who would be the judge of that screening test and how it would be managed.

Precisely, as we already discussed earlier in the thread.

The idea is ridiculous for several reasons, and impossible.

No, we actually don't.

You seem to think so because you lump everyone from the centre to the extremist right into the same group marked "enemies".

But the extreme right is very small in Canada, and you'd be hard pressed to find much agreement even among them for Islamic beliefs about women.

Unh ... yes we actually do have anti-gay, anti-womens rights politicians:

That want to execute gays and force women to wear bedsheets everywhere they go? Names, please.

I think we should execute people who wear white socks with sandals, and make fat men in sweat pants wear bedsheets.

So what?!

This is Canada.

I can think what I want.

The law is there in case I decide to act on it.

Well then I can see why you and the Islamic zealots agree on so much.

Doesn't mean we want more people with those kind of violent, ignorant, backward thoughts coming to live here.

Since when are names required in your campaign to stop anyone from your list of non-Canadian-value countries from immigrating to Canada?

Since when have has an exception to your campaign to immigrants from you non-Canadian-value countries from immigrating to Canada been confined "to way the freaking fracking out there in the distance." ?

Now your are claiming you only meant stopping the crackpots from immigrating? Screening immigrants for crackpotism and not religion anymore?

Glad to see you have come to your senses.

How could names even be applicable in dealing with a generalization about a population group? She specifically said there were politicians in Canada with these views. I asked for their names. She failed to supply any. Big surprise.

Pretty much always. But then, I consider anyone with extreme religious beliefs and the social values which follow, to be out their in the fracking distance.

I consider anyone who believes women and men should never socialize lest it inspire lust in men to be a crackpot.

Likewise those who think women need to cover their hair and face; likewise those who think gays should be executed; likewise those who think anyone who blasphemes or insults God should be executed; likewise those who think women walking around in shorts are whores who must take on any man who wants to make use of them.

You feel differently?

Perhaps it's a sign of something un-Canadian.

Am I allowed to wear white pants this weekend if I only wore shorts all summer? I am confused about Canadian values, it seems that despite my asking several times in this thread we have no consensus on what they are. Maybe we all need to follow Rex, because he knows them when he sees them.

Whatever your religion dictates. I find them all quite creepy being generally from a desert or a steaming jungle.

Canadian values. If you have to ask, yer not one. You're just renting here. We had a great thing going...even before you came on over from wherever.

I came from Quebec, but have spent significant time (at least 5-6 months) in 6 provinces and some time in the other 4. I am seriously thinking about moving to Manitoba or Saskatchewan for a couple of years to get that perspective. While I have spent several years in the Atlantic provinces, sadly Nova Scotia was mostly something I passed through with the exception of about a week I was there when I was 8. I have yet to see the northern territories, although I have spent a lot of time in northern Europe including several weeks above the arctic circle.

Canadians are mostly passive and naive. Canada was such a proud country after the World Wars, but has descended into a land of politically correct, gullible nicompoops.

The % Native in me twitches over all you Haoles.

I wonder if I should take one of those DNA test and see if I have any native blood in these veins. I can only trace back definitively to my great grandparents, one of which is a European import; the other 7 were born in Canada. Some of the roots in the family tree trace back at least another 5 generations, and if all roots were around here that long that leave over 500 possibilities for someone to have shacked up with a native. It certainly has not been a problem with the current generation, I have 2 first cousins and 1 uncle that married natives, not including my brother in-law.

My main goal of course is to see if I can draw poggie, just to get under the skin of some of my fellow posters.

I know who my family is. No worries...not Scotsman enough re: Native Status. But like any 'old stock' Canadian family, try NOT to find some Native DNA amongst the Euro. 'White women' were a rarity in many regions of Canada for a VERY long time.

I don't want any more like you who have such a hate on for 'immigrants'. We're all immigrants. :)

Everybody has an opinion.

Kellie Leitch's opinion isn't shared by many people, not even her own colleagues.

And that's because Leitch's idea is just plain stupid.

You might be an immigrant. That would explain why your values are so far removed from those of most Canadians.

But the majority of Canadians, including a majority of NDP and Liberal supporters, agree with the idea.

I wonder how long it would take, how many people it would take and how much it would cost to "screen" the 330,000 people who immigrated into Canada this year?

I guess if the question was "Do you believe in Canadian values" then 330,000 yes's would not take long and all the racists on this board would be happy.

That's why you don't screen anybody. You simply tell them what they are letting themselves in for, tell them it's okay to not like it, (suggest, perhaps, a strongly worded letter to the editor of their local newspaper, wherever they should decide to settle, explaining their objections) and make it plain that if they decide to do anything about it that doesn't fall within the laws we have, they would be back on a plane home the same day.

Simple.

So you wouldn't have a problem letting in 300,000 Nazis every year, am I right? I mean, what could be the harm?
