Many dead as lorry hits crowd

Recommended Posts

In my view , this is about the US indirectly.....they invaded Iraq, took out Hussein, who kept peace most of the time in the ME,

Logical fail....the U.S. and other nations were attacked before the invasion of Iraq. As a matter of fact, one guy from Canada tried to cross the U.S. border to blow up LAX long before 2003. Try again please.....

logical fail.... any such claimed attacks you use to deflect from the U.S. illegal invasion of the sovereign state of Iraq, were not on the scale of today's terrorism as directly coordinated or peripherally influenced by the vacuum-filling Al Qaeda/ISIS/etc.. Apparently, "regime change" has consequences - yes?

Why would you drive into a crowd with a truck full of guns if that meant you're going to lose the guns? Maybe because he was going to take the guns to a larger number of people but was going to be stopped and searched and risked losing all the guns. Why is the media desperate to make this as a lone-wolf incident?

Whoever they are, I can guarantee you that they are operating under a larger terrorist organization known as Islam.

Yes and no. Islam has been around a while. Islam was around when I was young and we didn't see any of this crap. So what's changed?

In 1973 the formation of OPEC and the Arab oil embargo and the huge price increase for oil caused a massive flood of money into the middle east, and specifically into certain countries like Saudi Arabia. Since then the Saudi government has spent more than $100 billion spreading its fundamentalist Wahabi version of Islam around the world, especially to poorer countries like Pakistan. It funds mosques on the condition it can supply the imam - free, and the imam preaches their hateful and intolerant version of Islam. It pays for schools and lets poor children go free, but they learn only basic reading and writing and wahabi Islam, nothing about Science or Geography or Math. Pakistan used to be poor but didn't used to be full of extremists and lunatics like it is now. The Saudi funded madrasas are responsible for the change. They also fund mosques in Canada and the US and western countries, as well as cultural centers, and supply imams to preach.

ISIS preaches a Wahabi version of Islam, as does Al Quaeda, as does Boko Haram. The Saudis are responsible for the growth of fanatical Islamic extremism and the terrorism that spawns. And many wealthy Saudis also secretly fund terrorist groups, and are protected by the Saudi government from western intelligence.

If the West wants to put a stop to Islamic terrorism the first place to go is Saudi Arabia. If the Saudis won't modify their extremist religious beliefs they must be compelled to stop spreading them abroad, by force if necessary. And if that means killing a lot of Saudis then so be it. Security efforts are never going to end the threat of Islamic terrorism as long as the Saudis and their billions continue to fan the flames of extremism.

As one talking head said on CNN, as soon as we manage to neutralize the latest weapon of destruction used by extremists, they develop a new weapon of choice and the whole process begins again. Now they seem to have mastered the use of vehicles to kill people. We will now direct our attention and efforts at stopping such vehicular attacks. Yet, they seem to always be one step ahead of security forces. So how long before murderous extremists get their hands on a drone and unleash one laden with explosives then detonate it remotely into soft targets.

Speaks to motivation.

There is starting to be no doubt that nutjobs descending from Islamic countries tend to have a much higher body count than nutjobs not descending from Islamic countries, but really?

Has there been any indication made that he was a jihadist? From everything I've read he was just a loner psycho.

He never prayed or attended a mosque, and hit his wife - with whom he had three children - and was in the process of getting a divorce.

Bouhlel, who had been known to the French police since January, had been on the radar for six months for petty criminality.

It is understood he lost his job as a delivery driver when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into four cars.

Actually the turning point was the stationing of US troops in Saudi Arabia. Before then most of these groups were focused on direct regional struggles and they saw the US as the lesser of a number of other evils.

When Saudi Arabia allowed US troops to build bases there that changed. Bin Laden spoke out against the decisions and he was exiled from the kingdom. THAT is when he turned on the US, and started attacking embassies and flying planes into buildings.

But the BIGGEST aggravating factor is the war on terror itself. Since the GWOT started terrorism all around the world has exponentially increased. We basically gave them a podium, and now people flock from all over the world to join terrorist organizations.

If the West wants to put a stop to Islamic terrorism the first place to go is Saudi Arabia. If the Saudis won't modify their extremist religious beliefs they must be compelled to stop spreading them abroad, by force if necessary. And if that means killing a lot of Saudis then so be it.

This is the incredibly stupid way of thinking that has gotten us here in the first place. "Lets go over there and kill some more people! Yuk yuk!". All you do is further radicalize the populations there and guarantee that not only another generation of terrorists emerge, but that their attentions are focused squarely on the west. Stooooo------pid.

A better approach would be to turn them against each other, or just step back and let that happen.

Play the Saudis against the Iranians, and the Iranians against the Israelis, etc. Do it covertly or as I said just let it happen.

Then while all those people are fighting just quietly back away. The new struggles that emerge will become the beacons for global extremists, and they will forget about countries like Canada and the US real fast. For example... Jihadis didn't even give us a second thought when the Soviet invasion Afghanistan was the extremist beacon.

Take the Trillions that we have spent on the GWOT, and use it to build housing, roads, bridges, etc for Canadians and Americans. We could literally have a brand new civilization if we had spent that money on ourselves. 50 Million jobs could have been created across the west providing valuable services to ourselves and updating our nations.

And we see from the type of people that take up the ISIS cause, beyond former Saddam Sunni Military, are marginalized and are looking for a cause.

Fair but the guy was no more Muslim than you or me. If he were a wife beater of any other descent who lost his wife and job and killed a bunch of people, would we still refer to it as terrorism? Edited by BC_chick

Dunno, people want to paint the Oklahoma City bombing as Christian terrorism.

We don't know he was jihadi, no. Maybe he was filled with hate like the guy in Dallas.

But I don't think it would surprise anyone if he did this with Jihadist motives.

Anytime someone commits and act of mass violence, people are going to feel a certain way about it based on their pre-conceived biases.

Interesting points and an interesting discussion, but not really what I am concerned with. When Europeans are finally pushed over the edge by Moslem violence they will not be concerning themselves with the history of extremist Islam, they will simply want to eradicate it by any means necessary. How the European masses react could be very unpredictable and/or unprecedented. It will have nothing to do with logic or history, it will be about fear and anger. Europe has been relatively benign lately but they do have the capability of wanton brutality and I believe that Islamic extremism is going to push them in that direction again.

This is just a prelude to what is to come as jihad in Europe is set to begin in September. If so attacks on this scale or worse will be a weekly occurrence.

Then at the latest people will need to take their head out of their arse as living in denial will become almost impossible.

Eradication at what cost? Another holocaust this time at a leger scale against muslim?

The attrocity in nice is abhorrable and that's exactly what these extremists want by isolation of normal muslims from the west. In their eyes their biggest enemy is moderate muslims in my opinion...

Everything is wrong with wahabism and their ideology. They hate persians and jews...
