No one has said all Muslims are terrorists. On the other hand, the more Muslims there are in a country, the more often and more likely this it to happen.

That's absolutely obvious to anyone not blinded by ideological blinkers. And your answer to that has always been "Let's bring in more! As many as possible!"

Ah infidel, there are already more of us than there are of you! Be prepared to be taken over by the believers!?! The Great One has decreed that all non believers will be purged out of the promised land (Canada) and we will persevere! It is only a matter of time.

You silly infidel, you still do not see what is happening. Our Muhammad Ali's funeral was covered for hours by every TV station in the USA and the rest of the world. Your Gordie Howe was given a few minutes on sports channels.

Already crescent rolls are outselling kaisers. :P:P:P

Dafuq are you talking about?

You know this whole, "If every Muslim was a terrorist" narrative could easily flipped by saying "If every Gun Owner was a violent killer narrative".

And I don't think Gordie Howe got "A few minutes" of coverage. way more than that here in Canada. It wasn't Ali's religion that made him the figure it was, it was his work to remove racial barriers and refusal to go to Vietnam. However if we're going to nipick, the Nation of Islam had abhorrent social views, ones that wouldn't be even remotely acceptable today.

The arguments that will come after this tragedy are tiresome. He was a Muslim inspired by Jihad, and he had easy access to an assault weapon, however his line of work made it easier to get such a weapon than an average person. Your political agenda will decide which aspect of the act is more important.

I guess the difference here is that it was also a horrific example of homophobia, that's something that we haven't seen in previous terrorist attacks.

The AR-15 is the gun of choice for mass shootings and it’s easier to buy in Florida than a pistol

A photo-heavy blog post by the National Rifle Association (NRA) celebrates the assault rifle’s combat-ready aesthetic appeal, encouraging gun-owners to make their AR-15 “even cooler” by adding a silencer.

In Florida, would-be gun owners don’t need a license to own or buy a rifle, shotgun or handgun, according to the NRA’s website. You just have to fill out an ID form, and pay $8 for a background check (convicted felons, domestic abusers and people who have been previously been declared a danger to themselves and others probably won’t pass).

According to the California-based nonprofit Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Florida does not require:

  • background checks for gun sales and transfer between private citizens
  • gun registration
  • gun-owner licensing
  • any special regulation on assault weapons
  • limits on the number of firearms that can be bought at one time

As in many US states, Florida gun laws are counter-intuitively lax toward larger weapons. So even though there is a mandatory three-day waiting period between purchase and delivery of a handgun in Florida, there is no waiting period for guns that requires two hands to hold (like the AR-15). Gun owners in Florida are also protected by law from being entered into any kind of state registry or other record of where the guns in the state are going.

embracing Islam... one crescent roll AND one croissant at a time! Uhhh... wait now! Couldn't that be counter-Jihad... symbolically devouring!

Mass murder sure is good for a lot of laughter, isn't it? Got any good gay jokes?

Pistols are concealable weapons though. AR-15's are way more lethal but it's hard to sneak around with one.

You'd think with the ease of access Florida would have mass shooting more then.

Back to the crux of the argument people will use based on their agenda. Gun problem? Radical Muslim Problem? Neither? or Both?

It really doesn't matter because, if you think changing gun laws will prevent terrorism you're being naive and unless you want to crack down on people simply for your religion, you can't police thought.

Uphill battle to fight either problem.

It doesn't matter which faith. Hindu, Muslim Christian or Jew, they are all have a few fanatics out to kill.

Yeah, and it could have been an atheist, hippie or midget, but it wasn't...it was a muslim - again. A muslim that had been investigated twice before for terrorism, a muslim that professed his allegiance with ISIS, prayed before the shooting and called 911 to tell them what he was doing and why.

Knowing this, it doesn't seem to matter whether he used an assault rifle, bomb, knife or airplane to commit his jihad

And, it doesn't really matter that the victims happened to be gays, it might just as well have been christians or a women's group - we're all on the hit list.

ya ya, that's right... that's what was being laughed at! Certainly not the right-wing charge to, per norm, attach this to the broader Muslim populace... that's not what was being made light of - nope, not at all. And my highlighting that tweet of Trump's was just me standing resolute and supporting the Trump ban!

but by-the-by, have you suddenly found your 'gay-legs'? If so, good on ya - better late than never, hey!

my read/listen has the guy being investigated 3 times by the FBI... for 'suspected ties'. Per the FBI spokesperson today, the FBI found nothing substantive to that end - he was currently not under any type of surveillance. And it certainly didn't impact upon the guy's ability to purchase a handgun and assault rifle - go figure!

I expect anti-Muslim types aren't pleased with some of the early talk/speculation about the guys mental state... that lil' gem, if accurate, will simply dampen the drum-beat narrative - yes?

These things will continue to happen, and more often as more Muslims come over, and it will be on the heads of the progressives who fought desperately, even fanatically, to bring as many conservative Muslims with retrograde social views to North America.

But don't worry, you say! Their kids born in Canada will be fully integrated! Just like this guy...

I've not heard/read that yet... but lots of talk about the easy purchase of the assault rifle adding to the carnage numbers.

.

But it detracts from the motive. Perhaps terrorists have realized that it's better to flip America's gun culture against them. Brilliant if you think about it.

Building a bomb with a legally purchased rice cooker in that crowd could have easily caused a similar casualty count.

Don't use that argument. Many of the recent Muslim-inspired terrorist attacks in the west were caused by people who were naturally born in the west or here legally and not here as part of some multicultural quota system.

This dude was from New York and had gainful employment.

And how does this conflict with my last sentence?

Haven't the progressives been assuring us that no matter how primitive the social beliefs of immigrants from Pakistan or Afghanistan are their kids who are born here will be fully integrated? Looks like that ain't happening.

I think some parents come here to escape that the type of fundamentalism they saw in their homeland but the internet allows their children to become radicalized on their own. Even white kids have taken up arms for ISIS.

This is all an exercise in generalization though.

Which begs the question: which Muslims are the 'radical ones'?

This is the part I find most upsetting. I've always had this idea that Muslims who grow up in western countries would embrace western values. My personal interactions with Muslims have been pretty much that. Aside from the aversion to pork, they were pretty normal guys.

But apparently a Muslim guy born in New York and lived all his life in the US decided that he would just up and commit a mass murder in the name of the caliphate. We've seen this before as well-- Canadian-born-and-raised Muslim dudes deciding they had to go to the Middle East to fight for Islam. Converts like Michael Zihaf-Bibeau and John Nutall and Amanda Korody deciding they had to commit mass murder for Allah. Is Islam a magnet for crazy?

#Freedom. Still not sure why any civilian would need or even want to own one of these things, besides power-tripping and the "cool" factor.
