Of course...I was a commissioned officer of the line in the U.S. Navy, not a contract rent-a-pilot for the United Nations.

You probably used American GPS to find your way.   I can still do it with celestial navigation.

Good for you. I was navigating my way around the world long before we even knew how to spell GPS.

The U.S. Navy had satellite navigation long before GPS (e.g. NavSat).

LORAN A/C, ESGM inertial, and other still classified methods were also in widespread use by submarines tasked with nuking the crap out of the enemy.

Accurate fixes are important for accurate targeting.

Loran only worked near the coast. I started out with VLF/Omega. Well after map reading of course.

The US Navy had military LORAN receivers, special NOAA LORAN charts, and DR bug plotting machines not available to other general traffic.

Master and secondary transmitters provided coverage far from the coast.

Canada still uses many U.S. NOAA based/derived chart products for world navigation, now upgraded to digital distribution and notices to mariners.

If Trump would decide something then everyone could get together. But he can't. So the two sides continue to war against each other to convince him, convince the public and convince congress.

I suspect its not a case of 'can't' but a case of he likes his underlings being in conflict with each other. If they are scrapping each other then their attentions won't be on him except as a go-to guy to sort out the mess - which he will definitely not do in order to keep the conflicts boiling.

Busy doing what?  He spends his time, golfing, watching TV and tweeting.

Right wingers are king when it comes to hypocrisy.  Go back a few years and check what Trump said every time Obama took a break golfing.  Trump has probably already spent more time on the golf course than Obama in all of his first term.

Aside from the tweeting part, that was a complaint about Obama and Bush Jr. regarding golfing.

And Trudeau would be out there waving the Canadian flag hoping that they don't miss America and hit Canada instead.  Although if they did miss America and hit Canada, Ottawa would work for me. All those useless politicians in da attawa would then be gone and out of the taxpayer's hair, and end heir wasting and stealing of our tax dollars. Works for me. :D

People should get too scared because this happen  back in the early 1960's with Cuba and Russia threatening the US and Cuba was a lot closer to the US and hitting the country...nothing happened.

Way ass backwards, Topaz. The US has been doing much more than threatening Cuba since the 1960s. It has had active genocidal policies in place.

Why does the USA always get such plug dumb presidents? Is it plug dumb people that vote this way?

Trump’s latest North Korea threat is scary. It’s also a lie.

https://www.vox.com/world/2017/8/11/16130812/trump-north-korea-tweet-us-military

President Donald Trump has now taken the tensions with North Korea to new heights, tweeting on Friday morning that the US military is in position to attack North Korea at a moment’s notice.

“Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely,” the president wrote. “Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!”

This is deeply alarming: Trump is sending a signal to Pyongyang that any US military activity nearby — like long-planned military exercises with South Korea set for August 21 — might well be cover for an attack. That makes the North more willing to consider preemptively striking US and South Korean forces, which would be a catastrophe.

But even worse, Trump’s tweet is actually false: The US military is not “fully in place” and ready to start a war with North Korea.

Doing so would require deploying a huge number of new military assets beyond what the US currently has stationed in South Korea and East Asia. And the Pentagon confirms that no such deployments have happened.

“No,” Lt. Colonel Christopher B. Logan, a Pentagon spokesperson, told me over the phone. “No changes related to that [North Korea].”

So this is a double whammy of a bad tweet: It’s a lie, and it’s a lie that makes a very serious threat that the US military is not quite ready to deliver on.

Why Trump’s tweet is so irresponsible

North Korea’s military, while outclassed by the combined might of the United States and South Korea, is still one of the world’s largest — boasting 1.2 million active service members, 7.7 million reservists, and roughly 21,500 artillery pieces (many of which are pointed right at Seoul, home to 10 million people and South Korea’s capital). Being “fully in place” for a strike on North Korea would mean deploying ground troops to the region that could reinforce the South’s defenses and bringing in aircraft carrier groups that could neutralize the North’s Navy and Air Force.

None of that is happening right now. In fact, two US carriers — USS Carl Vinson and USS Ronald Reagan — just left the waters near North Korea in June.

Watching Trump for a few moments is like having the definition of stupid and all its various synonyms cascade over you.

Then you wonder, how  "airheaded, birdbrained, bonehead, boneheaded, brain-dead, brainless, bubbleheaded, chuckleheaded, dense, dim, dim-witted, doltish, dopey, dorky, dull, dumb, dunderheaded, empty-headed, fatuous, gormless, half-witted, knuckleheaded, lamebrain (or lamebrained), lunkheaded, mindless, oafish, obtuse, opaque, pinheaded, senseless, simple, slow, slow-witted, soft, softheaded, thick, thickheaded, thick-witted, unintelligent, unsmart, vacuous, weak-minded, witlessdoes a person have to be to support this guy, to think he is anything but the preceding words.

Maybe but the Fat Boy isn't Khrushchev and Trump is no Jack Kennedy.

You don't think Kennedy needed to have special folders prepared for him twice a day with flattering pictures and reports about himself?

JFK made a lot more mistakes culminating in the Cuban Missile Crisis, including a sponsored invasion of Cuba.

Kennedy brought the world far closer to thermonuclear war than anything Trump has done to date.

Canada's DND discounted the prime minister and his cabinet, quietly following the Americans to DEFCON 3 before any official Canadian decision was made.

President Trump had no role in the development of DPRK nukes/missiles, he is just the latest U.S. president to be faced with the same issue.

Yeah?  Why?  Do you know?

The Carl Vinson is now heading to the United States, while the Ronald Reagan is continuing training with Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Force in waters east of Japan’s southern island of Okinawa, the official said.

The two nuclear-powered carriers conducted an exercise with MSDF helicopter carrier Hyuga and destroyer Ashigarafor three days through Saturday. Japan’s Air Self-Defence Force F-15 fighter jets also took part in the drill for two days.

Meanwhile, the Nimitz, the US Navy’s oldest operating aircraft carrier just departed San Diego to head into the Pacific.

The Nimitz will sail with the guided-missile destroyers, according to a US Navy statement.

I can't edit and add this link....don't know why.  The photo of the USS Nimitz above was taken from this site:

The Nimitz will sail with the guided-missile destroyers USS Kidd and USS Shoup from their designated carrier strike group, as well as the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Howard and USS Pinckney, and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Princeton, according to a US Navy statement

By Business Insider's count, that will mean the US has three aircraft carriers, two cruisers, and 12 destroyers simultaneously operating in the Pacific, often with Japanese and South Korean navy ships nearby.
