America under President Trump

See, you're illustrating the point I was making about the difference between spin and lies.

Saturday he came out and said that Trump had a record crowd at his inauguration-- LIE-- and that the media framed photographs of the National Mall to make the crowd look smaller than at Obama's inauguration-- LIE-- and that Washington Transit had more rides on Friday than it did at Obama's inauguration-- LIE. He claimed that the lawn coverings on Friday made the crowd look smaller than it was-- hilarious, and LIE.

Today Spicer comes out and says that Trump had a record AUDIENCE, if you include international viewers and streaming video. That might be true, but it's not the same as having a record CROWD, which he claimed was true, and it certainly doesn't support his Saturday claims that the Washington Transit had more rides or that the media used different photo angles, both LIES as discussed earlier.

So as I was explaining earlier, "spin" is when you massage the facts to support your preferred narrative, and "lies" are when you say things that are flat out lies.

The things Spicer said on Saturday were LIES.

The stuff Spicer said today-- that Trump may have had a larger total audience if you count viewers in around the world watching on streaming internet video-- is SPIN. Today he comes out and presents information-- a hypothetical international audience watching on streaming internet video-- that may support the narrative that he wanted to create. We all know that  Spicer wasn't talking about hypothetical viewers watching on Youtube in Stanstanistan when he talked about "record crowds" on Saturday, but at least there's an element of plausibility to it, even though we all know that's not really the point he wanted to make.

Spicer's statement on Saturday was like Baghdad Bob saying "There are no American soldiers in Iraq!"

Spicer's statement today was like Baghdad Bob clarifying that when he said there are no American soldiers in Iraq, he just meant that no American soldiers had recently entered the country at border-crossings using passports.

No, it wasn't a lie.  Watch the video on the timer I specified.

You guys - like the liberal media - want to spin it into a lie.

Can we watch the whole thing so we can see it in context and understand that they were questioning the estimates of the in-person crowd and clearly saying it was the largest ever, thereby lying? Or are we just allowed to watch the tiny, specified piece on the timer, which is likely the one phrase where  he wasn't lying?

I don't know, but it sure keeps the media babbling about things that are unimportant, rather than discussing real issues.

You don't think the government telling bald faced lies to you, lies that are obviously disprovable, matters?

The meaning of alternative facts in Trumpworld:

I've noted the same thing in Turkey's Erdogen. It seems Putin has set the example of how an autocrat can start to gain control and dismiss all opposition claims as mere lies, regardless of evidence. If enough credulous people believe the autocrat or aren't sure, then the autocrat wins.

Don't you get it?  POLITICAL SPIN!  Kellyanne doesn't have a monopoly on it!

I've been watching political spin for decades. What Trump and his cabal do isn't spin, it's outright lies and disinformation.

Bottomline:  Everybody's spinning, Kimmy.  That's part of politics now.

Untrue. Some people have integrity.

Hillary's Benghazi lies.....is the pits.  It's the lowest you can get when her own men were dying and she tried to spin it on a video!

There is no evidence whatsoever that Clinton lied about Benghazi. That is just an 'alternative fact' that you Trump supporters like to spew out to defend his lies.

Sorry- who has alleged that?

It seems that to Trump supporters, any error in reporting or making a statement which turns out to be in error is exactly the same as a bald faced, deliberate lie.

The period is used to indicate the end of a sentence. After his sentence ended, he doubled down and further lied by saying "in person" which was clearly a lie. Maybe more people than ever streamed it though. But he didn't say that.

Not to mention he provided zero evidence that a whole bunch of people watched it on the internet. Not to mention he brought along pictures of the crowd on the first news briefing to 'prove' there were more there, and even recited how many people each area could hold.

You agree with Betsy and the Trump skoesman that it was the biggest crowd ever?

Trump supporters have their own skewed version of reality, and to them, truth is whatever the Great Leader says it is, without regard to evidence. The Great Leader is noble and honest, and a good Christian, and the mountain of evidence to the contrary is simply not important.

There was a time...not so long ago...when distrust of the media and BIG GOVERNMENT was the other way....but brain cells being what they are in the 21st century.

So you are saying we should distrust 'BIG GOVERNMENT' but at the same time are fiercely defensive and even angry towards anyone who questions the biggest government of all, the Trump government, on anything whatsoever regardless of evidence they are lying.

Rex Tillerson gets approved as Sec. of State with the narrowest of majorities ever. 11-10 with all the Dems. voting against, and all the Repubs. voting for. Yet a further example of the divide in America.

It's also an example of what a wimp Rubio is. Trump showed him up as a wimp during the nomination battle, and here after making mouth noises and puffing out his little chest he's caved and obediently voted for Tillerson.

Good grief!  Trump won specifically because Obama caused such a divide.  Don't you people get that?

How did he cause the divide? By being a Black Muslim? This is just more 'alternative facts'.

Who cares...seriously dude - WhoTF cares?  The fact is; Obama divided the US into groups and had people pick their sides - the results are what we're seeing today,

Fact? Facts require evidence, and you have none.

As evidenced by the erosion of democrats in the house, senate, and state legislatures

I would say that is more related to the lack of money behind Democrats as opposed to Republicans, and the fact Democrats have always tended to be much less disciplined and united, especially of late, than Republicans in pursuing goals.
