Canadians FEAR Trump...Big Time

Recommended Posts

With only 17% of hardcore supporters still standing by the idiot trump and less than a 40% general approval rating, and Mueller closing in on trump, we can likely look forward to the demise of the trumpism that is an ugly and likely racist reaction to Barack Obama (a black president) being in office for 8 years.  Here in Canada, we now have our own trump wannabe in the dashing figure of doug ford and cannot afford to be complacent.  .

This is just silly, frantic bloviating. Ford is nothing like Trump, and his party's policies are nothing like Trump's. He got elected largely through the thick mass of seats north of Toronto which are heavily ethnic. He's a lot more beholden to them than to rural white folks.

Just another election cycle in the USA, but this time there is a new wrinkle. Despite claims that American voters are supporting Trump (or Sanders) out of fear instead of anger and disillusionment, polling results "north of the border" suggest that the true source of any such "fear" actually comes from Canada.

Nearly two-in-three of Canadian voters surveyed — 65 percent — said they feared the very prospect of Donald Trump getting elected president of the United States, while 23 percent said they did not. The survey, conducted by Canadian polling firm Leger and sponsored by the newspapers Le Journal de Montréal and Le Devoir, also found majority support for Hillary Clinton becoming the 45th president.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/does-canada-like-trump-219017

So why do polled Canadians, and by extension many other Canadians, FEAR Donald Trump's election campaign and possible U.S. term as president ?

What are the reasons for such FEAR compared to other candidates and previous presidents ?

Is the FEAR rational ?

What do fearful Canadians think a President Trump means to them or their lives across the border ?

Why are they so afraid ?

Canadians not only fear any kind of leader who is trying to break down democracy, as this "president" is ( along with his henchmen in congress) but we also have some moral backbone - along with many, many millions of Americans who did not vote for this inept and amoral non-president.  We are also closest geographically - trump has already shown his cards regarding trade with Canada.  He is a bully and rules unlawfully.  what's to like?

Canada often uses the word "bully" when it comes to the United States...over a very long history and power imbalance...nothing new about that.  It is a mainstay of the Canadian psyche when it comes to relations with the United States.

If and when President Trump violates the law, he will be held accountable, just like unlawful actions by prime ministers.   Many millions of Americans did not vote for Hillary Clinton as well.

Mexico is just as "close" as Canada, with far more nationals in the United States (legally and illegally).

Which leads me to think that Canada's assumed/presumed "special relationship" was/is never prepared to deal with a more isolationist United States.   President Trump is a wake up call to the reality that has always existed and is well documented by Canadian authors, but can no longer be ignored.

We are in a dangerous time.

This populism of angry idiots has their own propaganda arm.  Rebel Media fomented a belief that the Fredricton shooter was Muslim, but guess what ?  Turns out it was another nut pushed to violence, and a fan of Rebel Media.  Of course they did not shut down or express remorse for the blood on their hands.

I would like to see some intelligent alternatives to the angry idiots.

Wow. Trump was a shitty parent as well as he is a shitty president.  I sure hope he doesn't slap the crap out of Canada, ouch !

One day, the elder Trump showed up to pick up his son for a baseball game and flat-out slapped the crap out of his kid when he wasn't dressed for the occasion.

Think about how to improve the world, not just one tribe, without prejudice in regard to race, colour or creed.  Find real sources for problems instead of stereotyped scapegoats.  We need big picture, global thinking and positive local action, not fear mongering and oppression.

What about those of us who say no to your globalist agenda, those of us who says we can't get past cultural differences(imaginary), racial or other physical differences(real) not withstanding. I'm not on board with the globalist who think the entire world will get along and that no conflict will ever arise because we can get past our self imposed social construct. I'm not going to stand there and say every other country is unique and great, no, quite the opposite, the rest of the world are shit-hole because they chose to adopt terrible ideological social construct. I have no interest in respecting and/or adopting their views.

You don't have to adopt or respect everyone's views.  A certain amount of tolerance is necessary to build bridges, but there are some narratives out there that are bad news and can't be argued rationally.  I worry about your fear of so-called globalism, because there's a risk of throwing away important international agreements on the environment, trade, labour conditions, and so forth that make the world safer and better for just about everyone.  Think about chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's).  If we didn't ban them internationally our ozone layer might have thinned to life-threatening levels.  Fear can be a paralyzing force, as FDR recognized.  Difficult as it can be, we have to be constructive and keep talking.  Otherwise the Al Qaeda's and North Koreas of the world can grow worse and problems we didn't know existed can emerge and reek havoc.

Canada's FEAR of President Trump has now resulted in a new label that pervades media op-ed pieces "north of the border":   Trumpian

Here is an example from today's Globe and Mail, referring to the soap opera in Ontario....

...He furthermore disgraced his office when, after his bill to cut council seats was overturned by the lower court, he maligned the judiciary on the grounds that it is “unelected” and suggested that the judge involved was a Liberal political appointee biased against the Ontario PC Party.

The sight of his cabinet supporting these Trumpian tactics has been disturbing; that the Attorney-General, Caroline Mulroney, refused to publicly defend the honour of the judicial system she oversees is especially troubling.

Well we saw this coming as Trump cheered DoFo's bro Rob Ford on during his tenure as Toronto Mayor.

Donald Trump channels Rob Ford and vows to ‘stop the gravy train’

By Daniel DaleWashington Bureau
Fri., May 6, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Donald Trump introduced a new catchphrase on Thursday. It may sound familiar to Toronto.

"I'm going to stop the gravy train," the Republican presidential nominee said at a rally in West Virginia.

"Stop the gravy train," of course, was the famously successful campaign slogan of late Toronto mayor Rob Ford, to whom Trump has sometimes been compared.

"Awesome," former Ford chief of staff Mark Towhey said on Twitter.

"OMG," wrote Toronto Councillor Josh Matlow.

"Yup, Groundhog Day," wrote former Ontario premier and MP Bob Rae.

“You know when you laugh, but no sound emerges...” wrote Jennifer Hollett, who was a senior campaign aide to 2014 Ford competitor Olivia Chow.

Trump used the phrase in criticizing the conservative activists behind the "Never Trump" campaign that tried to thwart him in the primary.

"You know that thing Never Trump? You know why it's Never Trump? Because I'm going to stop the gravy train for all these consultants and all of these people that are ripping off our country. It's called the gravy train," he said.

Ford died of cancer in March. Trump met him at least once, when the billionaire came to Toronto in 2012 to promote the Trump International Hotel & Tower.

Trump said then Ford "truly has a spectacular reputation." In 2013, at the height of Ford’s drug scandal, Trump said on Twitter, "Who would you rather have negotiating with Iran — President Obama or Toronto Mayor Ford? My money is on Ford."

Their many similarities have not gone unnoticed by Ford’s brother, who was also fond of the "gravy train" slogan as a councillor and mayoral candidate.

"Donald Trump is borrowing from us," Doug Ford told the National Post last year. "Rob blazed a new trail for politicians like that."

Well...it's back...or maybe the FEAR never really subsided and is only heightened again by domestic Canadian anxieties over the upcoming federal election.

Who would be best to manage a U.S. president that holds so much power (real or imagined) over Canada's economy, trade, and defence ?   How much Trump will be injected into the election campaign season and rhetoric....the president of another nation ?

Apparently, this guy is really scared:

Quote

Recent polling shows that nearly three-quarters of Canadians disapprove of Mr. Trump. But it is a 100-per-cent fact that no living human has the ability to more directly or more comprehensively affect the lives and livelihoods of Canadians than this President of the U.S. – whether we like it or not. Whether we loathe him or not.

Mr. Trump is the ineluctable problem of our time – a constant orange emergency capable of disrupting our prosperity, security and well-being.

So, which of our leaders is best qualified to take on the task of Mr. Trump? Who is best suited to dance the delicate line between soothing the President’s galactic-sized ego and showing the strength required to stare down a bully?

...Many will think it unwise to vote on the basis of which prime minister can best deal with a President who could be ousted in 2020. Think again. Actually, think of Wisconsin. That swing state reminds us that Mr. Trump, who couldn’t possibly win once, dare not be dismissed twice. The hard truth is that our election comes first and Canadians will be condemned to live with the choice Americans make. We can’t afford to gamble that we’ll like the result better this time around.

Mr. Trump affects our jobs. Our incomes. Our environment, our borders and our national defence. In fact, there is no policy arena immune from his impetuous influence. For Canadian voters, Mr. Trump’s existence is of universal relevance and decisive significance.

It has often been said that FEAR is a great motivator....perhaps we will see how the FEAR of Trump (and America's choices) impact a Canadian federal election.

If anything, it may help JT.

Some ignorant voters may think Scheer will just be a stooge to Trump, while JT will stand up to him.

It seems Trump has tamped down is Canadian rhetoric, even he must realize the value of the close relationship between the two countries.

Trump wants the USCMA ratified, but now many Democrats are fighting passage.   Therein lies the foolishness of voting for a federal election in Canada based on who is a  foreign president.   FEAR gives Trump more perceived power over what happens in Canada compared to the prime minister.

I would say Trump is simply a fetish for Canadians, a talisman of Canadian fear and loathing of Manifest Destiny, deeply ingrained in Anglo Canadian Victorian culture.

The fear is that Canada's Iron Curtain to keep the Americans out is not failing but has already failed.

They are right about that, but only those who cling to the socialist protectionist nanny police state need fear.

Those who love freedom simply rejoice at the glory of the coming of the Lord, hallelujah.

The best leader for Canada to be able to deal with Trump and for Canada and America to get along well with will be Bernier of the People's Party of Canada. Both are real and true conservatives. They both believe in more freedom, less taxes, and less government and less red tape. More and more everyday here in Canada, there is another tax or another rule or regulation made that takes more freedom away from Canadians. If Canadians want less government/taxes/red tape then there is no choice left but to vote for Bernier.

The lieberal/NDP/Green Party's are already attacking Bernier and progressive Scheer. Why attack Scheer is a bit strange though as Scheer appears to be just another liberal party of Canada at this time. With Scheer as the PM of Canada will only mean that the slow march to the destruction and the end of Canada will be done just a little bit slower. The fear will be put into Canadians by the liberals and their bought off media that Bernier is a right wing racist and anti-immigrant which is a bunch of bull. Those two mentioned will try and fearmonger Canadians to death about Bernier. One can only hope that they will not listen to their fearmongering. One can only hope. ;)

It seems that some Canadians spend time not only worrying about their own federal election, but the American election in 2020 too.  (Americans don't worry so much about Canadian elections...there will probably be no live telecasts from major U.S. networks in October.)

Majority of Canadians 'discouraged', 'resigned' over possibility of Trump re-election: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If President Donald Trump manages to stay in office for a second term, a majority of Canucks — 69 per cent — say it would be bad for Canada.

That’s eight times more than than those who believe his re-election would have a positive impact north of the 49th parallel, according to the Angus Reid Institute.

The majority of those polled say they have an overall negative view of how the president and his administration have performed since taking office in January of 2017.

You totally tip your troll hand when you say stuff like this.

The US is running close to a one trillion dollar deficit. What's conservative about that?

Where does trolling come in here is beyond me? You talk silly.

So, what has your hero comrade Trudeau done to try and bring down the Canadian debt since he became the dictator of Canada? In the past year alone Trudeau has given away over 5 billion of our Canadian tax dollars to over 20 3rd world countries who did not deserve those tax dollars. Trudeau even gave 600 million to the Clinton Foundation. This is what liberalism is good for and does. Wastes taxpayer's tax dollars by the billions every year. Conservatives are well known for being at least a lot more conservative than liberals will ever be. Liberalism is a disease and it makes everyone around it unhealthy and poor.  Trump is the cure for liberalism. :D

Any critique of JT regarding debt is completely nullified if you support Trump who, again, has allowed the US debt to skyrocket.

Canada's deficit is around $20 billion. Atrocious I know, we should elect Scheer.

But even though the US is 10 times the population of Canada, they don't offer universal healthcare or year-long maternity leave. If the US deficit $200 billion that would be "comparable" not great but comparable. . .

IT'S CLOSE TO ONE TRILLION DOLLARS.

If Canada's Debt was One Trillion it would be comparable to a US debt of say $10 trillion. In reality Canada's debt is like $700 billion and the US Debt is north of $20 Trillion!! And that's not even considering the gap in currencies. So it's actually even worse if you convert to one currency or the other.

Conservatives in the US are only conservative when it comes to Abortion Rights.

But where has Trudeau brought down the debt in any significant way? That is the question I asked of you? Why are you trying to compare Americas debt to the Canadian debt? Trump is trying to bring down the American debt. Trudeau is not. Do you honestly believe that Scheer will help bring down the debt? The same Trudeau policies will still be in effect. Scheer will not change a dam thing but will carry on liberal business as usual. If I see Scheer saying things like he will cut back on immigration/refugees, multiculturalism and foreign aid, as Bernier said he would, then I will believe that Scheer is a real and true conservative.

Conservatives in America are also for protecting the 1st and 2nd Amendments and millions of Americans are against illegal immigration.

It would appear as though Canadians do know more about the American elections coming up than they know about the Canadian elections coming up. We can only thank the leftist liberal bought off Canadian media mob for the negativity that Canadians have towards America and Trump. If the Canadian media would mind their own bloody business, and stay in their own backyard and throw stones at Trudeau, there would not be all that much hatred for America or Trump. The CBC, being the worse of them all, constantly attacks America and Trump every hour of every day just like your own leftist liberal American media does every hour of every day towards Trump. They are such pathetic crybaby losers who both deserve to lose in their next elections. The American media could careless about the Canadian election coming up. But you can be sure as hell that the Canadian media will be covering the American election in 2020. They may report something on our election on the eleven o'clock news. The democrats and the liberals are the ones in fear of losing both their elections. They fear conservatives like Trump and Bernier and maybe somewhat Scheer.  ;)
