Yep, we have rightwing assholes in Alberta. Too bad they seem to be importing drivel from the US. But did you actuallydoubt we would stop to do biz with y'all

Canada has no other option....no other nation's economy in the world is so dependent on trade with the United States, and military partnership.

Trump's name flies high above Canada's largest cities.   Hail Trump !!

Follow-up to this prediction....U.S. stock markets have responded well to Trump's victory...at least in the short term.   Predictions were false, for now.

If you look closely, the markets were low on Friday, picked up by Monday, and climbed on Tuesday as well. The election was on Tuesday, but the figures like the DJIA were from the close which was long before any election results came in. The fact they didn't drop on Wednesday but continued to climb is a good sign for Trump, but they were already heading in that direction clearly before so they are not a response to his election. They might be a response to less uncertainty, but not specifically to Trump.

Nonsense.  Looking at a 5 day trend leading into voting day is meaningless.  The last 6 months shows what the markets were doing which was treading water, not climbing.  The left brain trust almost had a party when the Dow futures dropped several hundred points on the night of the election, but have been mostly mum on the climb since.

On February 11, 2016, the Dow closed at 15,660. On November 4, it closed at 17,888. That is, by definition, climbing. Quit lying already. I'm tired of being your fact-checker.

So, in other words, it appears the market has taken a "wait and see" attitude (because nobody has a clue what the hell Trump is actually going to do because he hasn't tweeted much substantive economic policy yet) and the Dow has continued its Obama-era steady growth.

A surge is not steady growth, buttercup.

From the link-

Before the election, prominent stock pickers warned the Dow would plunge 1,000 points if Donald Trump was elected. In reality, the exact opposite has happened.
Trump euphoria has sent the index up over 1,200 points in the four weeks since Trump's shocking defeat of Hillary Clinton. On Wednesday, a burst of buying has sent the Dow surging nearly 300 points to new all-time highs.
The Dow is now within striking distance -- roughly 500 points -- from the pivotal 20,000 milestone.
Wall Street is betting that Trump will be great for business and help accelerate the U.S. economy.

That's from CNN no less. The news outlet that could say nothing but disparaging remarks about Donald Trump before he was elected. Now they're licking his ass.

Then it has certainly surged in he Obama era because it was less than 8000 when he took office.

Think about that.

It also went up by the amounts I cited in the six months prior to the election, so given the fact that it continues to grow, I'm inclined to blame that on Obama's stewardship than Trump's sell-Ivanka's-shoes economic policy.

Obama's been in for like 8 years. He inherited the Bush economy at the end of his tenure which is about as low as it goes. It could only rise after that, once they stopped shedding money into the Iraq and Afghan wars. To me a surge is a sudden change. Obama was able to improve the economy, not necessarily by his skill as a financial man but out of luck and opportunity. Not really a surge, more of a limp wristed affair.

He only improved the economy by pouring borrowed trillions into it.  Right now, 20% of New Yorkers are on food stamps, for instance, and that's all money that the government borrows.  They need to put people back to work so they can feed themselves.  I hope Trump can do it, it's a tall order.

Perhaps you have no idea how much wars cost and how beneficial to a countrys economy winding uo two fo them  can be. I wonder if Trump will reverse all of those gains..

That's extremely naïve and indicative of someone who was born well after the 1930s and didn't study history. Negative economic circumstances feed on themselves in a catch 22, where unemployment reduces consumer spending causing further unemployment causing even less consumer spending.... It was well on that road, but strong leadership and a bold stimulus package saved us all. Of course, that left the door open for economic know-nothings to whine about the "borrowed trillions", but they're saying that from the same position of economic comfort they had before 2008, not in a cardboard box by the railway tracks.

Of course it has...  Wall Street sees DT as a useless ignoramus that it absolutely no threat to Corporate operations.
Tax-payer bailouts to stay in America will sharpen the bottom line.   Increased Military spending will be good.  They do not expect DT to be able to do anything substantial for those "left-behinds" who voted him in, and they don't care.   As long as he is not spending money on those, Wall Street will be unaffected.

Whether the dow went up or down, you people would find something bad to say about it. It went up despite all your hopes, and DT is the next president. So suck it up, buttercup  :D

Did anybody comment on this thread's final poll results ?    I think Trump won the election, not Clinton.

Confirmation bias is a terrible thing.

Hillary won the popular vote.

Including votes from illegals.   Still, I think Hillary Clinton has earned a participation trophy.

She earned more votes than the Donald...   more popular.

Actually, I don't have any particular "hopes" for the USA except one... that it does not dissolve into civil war.

Like they say..."It used to be a nice place to visit...."

Still is....far more people still visit the USA each year than Canada.  More popular with illegals too.
