Are you suggesting you would rather live in China? If so by all means go live there. We should ship them all the rioting Canadians too. :)

Probably after a few years I will

It's true I am fairly ignorant of which companies are now operating in China, but that post was to do with riots in Montreal.

Actually there are many small mom and pop stores in China that the big chains can't bust!

People in China are big on supporting small local shops!

In China, those kids in Montreal would have all been shot on site on the street, and there parents sent the bill for the cost of the bullet that killed them.

You think that's a good thing?

That's what you want to see here?

Democracy only exists where there is freedom to protest peacefully without state suppression.

Montreal does not have democracy now because peaceful protest is suppressed by bizarre law, police, tear gas and horses.

No, I'm pointing out the irony that these kids are protesting for a more socialistic existence, like the people of the republic of China are enjoying at this very moment.

I'm suggesting that instead of protesting, they could simply move to China where it already is very socialist, like they seem to prefer.

LOL!

Ya right, an anti capitalist protest going over like a lead balloon in a communist country.

Then what are they all waiting for? who needs to protest here, when the ideal social society already exists somewhere here on earth. Vote with you're feet ;)

Canada will soon be a fully socialist country. Soon Zionism will be illegal. Criticizing Islam will be illegal. Removing your wealth will be illegal.

The country is finished. I urge you to get out while you can. More and more slum people are coming to Canada making it a third world toilet bowl. Your taxes are paying for them to live here. They're like leeches or parasites living of the host body.

Remove your wealth from Canada now. Don't give the government any more of your money.

What are you talking about kimmy?

We had a federal surplus when Harper took over.

.

You are confusing "debt" and "deficit".

Deficit is our income minus our expenditures (ie, the government spending more than its revenue in a year.)

Surplus is the opposite (ie, the government's revenue for the year exceeds expenditures.)

Debt is the sum of our deficits over time. ie, if you run a $10 billion dollar deficit for 10 years in a row, you have a $100 billion dollar debt. If you then run $10 billion surpluses for two years and use the surplus to reduce the debt, then you still have an $80 billion debt.

We ran surpluses for a few years under Paul Martin, but it wasn't nearly enough to erase decades of deficit spending and debt accumulated going back to Trudeau and Mulroney. Martin's few years of surpluses was a drop in the bucket compared to the accumulated debt.

There may have been a budget surplus when Harper took over, but there was also a $500 billion dollar debt.

I've seen Walmart,KFC,Pizza Hut, 7-11, McDonalds in mainland China. Now those are western companies. Many other private companies in China.

Perhaps you have never been there perpetuates more ignorance?

No Starbucks, Chinese prefer tea to coffee on the mainland.

Actually I was in a Shanghai Starbucks ten years ago.

Didn't know that Starbucks was in Shanghai.

I've been to a Starbucks in Macau and I'm guessing they are in Hong Kong.

Also been to other specialty coffee shops in mainland China but coffee there is nothing like here in Canada where there is a Timmys on every corner.

Apparently, you don't believe in democracy. The city council is duly elected, and passed a law, which, i might add, is very strongly supported by the electorate. Giving notice of a route enables police to redirect traffic and try to keep the disruption of citizens' travel and business to a minimum. Springing up without notice and blocking traffic is illegal pretty much in every municipality in the world.

The fact these people were basically brainless thugs who just wanted to smash things and cause trouble, and had no real agenda other than that, should indicate their 'protest' was without value. The best case scenario would be for all of them to be arrested and trucked out into the country to spend the summer in forced labour working on farms.

A protest is supposed to be inconvenient for others. It's how the point gets across. However I do not agree with trashing cars, windows and such. There are proper ways to do this without putting yourself into a position where the 'authorities' can detain you.

Hoping for change from Ottawa is pointless. I think the more likely avenue is public shaming of these deadbeats, kind of like happened to the Royal Bank and McDonalds with the foreign workers.

I believe that is the more effective way as well.

You can always move out of Canada. Much of the same thing was said after WWII with regards to Germans immigrating to Canada. But is it the colour of their skin that offends you more? Live and let live, but if anyone imposes on me, I push back.

To GostHacked - I agree that the intention of a protest is to create an inconvenience - but an inconvenience to the targets of the protest. I have been caught in numerous protests from a rolling highway protest to picket lines to having to detour around a highway blockage. In every case, it has resulted in my opposing the position of the protesters. I do not know of anyone who has been "inconvenienced" and the process has resulted in a change in which the "inconvenienced" has switch to a position supporting the issue of the protesters. I have found that the reverse usually happens.

I live in an area of Ontario which has been negotiating with aboriginals over a variety of issues. I was originally sympathetic to their cause and voiced an opinion in support. A few years ago, some jackasses from the reserve decided to blow up a hydro station resulting in us losing power for three days and about $200 in frozen food. Not only have they lost my support but I take every opportunity to condemn them. I have since supported politicians who oppose land claims.

I am not sure what your standard of an "inconvenience " entails. What do you feel is an acceptable level?
