WestCoastRunner Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 One of my big issues with this forum is that with the invisibility option, I don't know who is lurking and who is paying attention. It leaves me feeling vulnerable and like someone waiting to be pounced on from a lurking member. When I post, I like to see who is on board, who is paying attention and who is just lurking and waiting to troll. I understand the member who is not signed in and wants to respond later but this invisibility feature just encourages the troll. And of course because I almost always have disagreed with (the king), I cant post on his status updates. Maybe another good reason for getting rid of them. Or perhaps just stop allowing trols to hide in the dark. Seems to have no consideration from the mods, even though the rest of us all seem to get the picture. Quote

It appears you have two options...(1)get a handle on your paranoia, or (2) deal with the fact that this is a public open forum and accept that people viewing your posts may respond in a way you may not agree with. They have to log in to respond. I dont get what your issue is. Quote

Charles Anthony Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 No they dont. Yes, they do. That is the issue quite clearly spelled out I would add. Indeed, it has. Yet, that perception of reality is mistaken. Or perhaps just stop allowing trols to hide in the dark. How about the following compromise? Perhaps we should not allow ANYBODY to log into the forum anonymously. Personally, I do not see what the big deal is but perhaps I am biased. Mod staff can see the usernames of everybody who is logged in anonymously. I changed this topic to a poll limited to only 2 choices. Regardless of how the vote plays out, I will pitch the change to Greg and we can figure out how to disable it. Unless there is something I am missing, I doubt he would have a problem with it. In the mean-time and whether it matters to you or not, get up and vote! Hydraboss Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 If this is such a massive problem for some members, why not do this: 1) do away with "anonymous" status 2) do away with "block user" ability 3) do away with all site moderation/facilitation 4) code in a redirect to Rabble.ca (I think this is likely the only option that would make some people happy) I doubt any of these would satisfy some members, but aren't we all here to make the "minority" poster feel warm and fuzzy? Ash74 Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 Worried about people reading your posts on a public forum......... If that bothers you why not just go on Facebook and control your sharing. -1=e^ipi Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 It leaves me feeling vulnerable and like someone waiting to be pounced on from a lurking member. That must be due to the 'rape culture' that 'feminists' keep telling me about. *sarcasm* But seriously, this is an anonymous internet forum. You are anonymous. I am anonymous. Everyone is anonymous. No one knows anyone else. Why should it matter who is and who is not online? Just post when you want to. Read other posts when you want to. If anything, you should be glad that someone wants to have a discussion with you. When I post, I like to see who is on board, who is paying attention and who is just lurking and waiting to troll. I have a better idea. How about we create a feminist safe space thread in the the sex and gender issues forum (which I still think should be renamed to sex, gender and social justice issues) where no one is allows to disagree with feminist dogma and we all just have to listen and believe? Then you can state your opinion, have other feminists join in and tell you how correct you are, and all us ignorant peons can become enlightened. Would that make you feel better? Quote

Argus Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) You know, you can browse the forum without signing in at all. People do it all the time. That's why the majority of people on the site at any given moment are marked as 'guests'.
