Baltimore Riots

Nope...the cop is legally permitted to use deadly force in many instances to protect himself and/or others.

Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

Apparently cops in the States are legally allowed to kill, protecting themselves from a backfiring car. Just jump on the hood and empty your side arm through the windshield. Yeehawwww.

Oh yeah, make sure the folks in the car are black.

I get that. But his statement equated every police shooting as murder. I'm pointing out how ludicrous that is.

Why do American cops get into more situations where they have to kill people than cops in any other civilized country in the world? How come there were more police killings in the United States in just one month this year than the last 100 years in the UK? That kind of disparity needs to be examined.

Why would releasing these documents to the public have any bearing on the court proceedings?

Just a figure of speech. I should have just hashed tagged it with hypocrisy or amateur hour, which has been the pattern with this particular prosecutor.

Okay, how would this figure of speech be applicable to this situation? How is it hypocritical or amateur?

The only thing amateur I see is your interpretation that it is relevant.

Well, she had no problem citing the evidence she has, in public and to the media in previous instances. She had no problem speaking directly to protesters saying the she "heard" them in her press conference charging the police officer. She had no problem attending the black lives matter Prince concert a few weeks ago, but now she wants to keep things private?

Marilyn Mosby says she'll seek order to block release of Freddie Gray autopsy report.

It's kangaroo court in Baltimore.

Defense attorneys still have access to the documents as evidence, they just won't be in the media. So the "kangaroo court!" and "they're being railroaded!" stuff you've been saying doesn't fly.

Speaking of the defense attorneys, weren't they the ones who said they wanted this case tried in the court and not in the media?

Yes, before the prosecution went so public. Now I'm sure they'd like their say as well. Why do you think the autopsy shouldn't be released? Why so secretive? What are you afraid of? People getting the truth?

But to me the direct root of the problem is that the police feel entitled to use force on a whim, and that they don't expect to be held accountable for the use of force.

I think some of that message trickles down from above, via crappy irrational governence. Crime in almost every category is down, yet police powers are being expanded, and the police force is being increasingly militarized. People are safer than ever before yet they are paranoid that theres a criminal or terrorist around every corner and the government is fanning the flames instead of trying to act rationally, with these stupid anti terrorism bills, crackdown on crime bills, etc. People are more suspicious of each other even though they have less need to be.

And its almost a self fullfilling prophecy. The distrust and suspicion that law enforcement and people have for each other makes altercations more likely and those altercations create more fear and distrust.

Crime in almost every category is down, but we have gone from 3000 no-knock warrants served to 80 000.

In the mid-80s, there were between 2,000 and 3,000 no-knock intrusions per year. As of 2011, there were as many as 80,000 no-knock searches yearly, according to USA Today and Eastern Kentucky University

Crime in almost every category is down, but we have gone from 3000 swat team raids in 1980 to 45000 today.

Often wearing fatigues and body armor while donning military-style assault weapons, these teams conduct over 150 raids every day. In 1980, there were around 3,000 SWAT team raids in the United States. In 2001, that number had inflated to 45,000 and has since expanded to over 80,000 raids per year .

600 Taser killings since 2001... Often against people who were barely resisting, or were non-aggressively incompliant.

This isnt about a few bad apples on the police force, its about government gone wild, and the full-on militarization of police.

Baltimore prosecutor filed her motion in the wrong court.

Baltimore city state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby’s motion for a gag order in the Freddie Gray case was denied Monday because the prosecutor filed paperwork in the wrong court.
