CIA caught in the act of subversion.

Recommended Posts

And some say it does not happen.

Well now we have some pretty damning proof and admissions.

The US created a text-message social network designed to foment unrest in Cuba, according to an investigation by the Associated Press news agency.

ZunZuneo, dubbed a "Cuban Twitter", had 40,000 subscribers at its height in a country with limited web access.

The project reportedly lasted from 2009-12 when the grant money ran out.

The US is said to have concealed its links to the network through a series of shell companies and by funnelling messages through other countries.

The BBC's Sarah Rainsford in the Cuban capital of Havana says there is a thirst for information on the island, which has no independent media.

'Bogus advertisements '

There has been no official Cuban government reaction to the story.

So ... where else have the CIA done this kind of thing? Using shell companies to hide the trail. Just like other professional full time criminals.

Next time you see the USAID thing .. you may want to go in the other direction ..

The scheme was reportedly operated by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), a federal international development organisation run under the aegis of the Department of State.

I have a feeling Hillary Clinton's fingerprints are on this somewhere.

Yes, the CIA does this, and so does almost every other major intelligence apparatus. Big deal though. Wow a twitter campaign, those heartless bastards! Why can't they leave those nice freedom and human rights loving Castro brothers alone.

It's an act of terror against another state. That is what this boils down to. What if I told you Obama was involved, would you be upset then?

What about coercing a public to push against the Cuban government which can lead to a lot of violence and death. An act of terror pure and simple.

Then the Cuban government is already practicing acts of terror on its own citizens.

It would make more sense for the CIA to ADMIT this, so as to distract attention from worse things that they're doing now. So... why again are we upset about it ?

Disinformation operations are always a part of espionage. Let's leave the mock outrage for the diplomatic corps, I say.

This is not espionage, this is subversion. An act of terror.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espionage

Espionage or spying involves a government or individual obtaining information considered secret or confidential without the permission of the holder of the information.[1] Espionage is inherently clandestine, as it is taken for granted that it is unwelcome and, in many cases illegal and punishable by law. It is a subset of intelligence gathering, which otherwise may be conducted from public sources and using perfectly legal and ethical means. It is crucial to distinguish espionage from intelligence gathering, as the latter does not necessarily involve espionage, but often collates open-source information.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subversion

Subversion refers to an attempt to transform the established social order and its structures of power, authority, and hierarchy. Subversion (Latin subvertere: overthrow) refers to a process by which the values and principles of a system in place, are contradicted or reversed *. More specifically, subversion can be described as an attack on the public morale and, “the will to resist intervention are the products of combined political and social or class loyalties which are usually attached to national symbols. Following penetration, and parallel with the forced disintegration of political and social institutions of the state, these loyalties may be detached and transferred to the political or ideological cause of the aggressor”.[1] Subversion is used as a tool to achieve political goals because it generally carries less risk, cost, and difficulty as opposed to open belligerency. Furthermore, it is a relatively cheap form of warfare that does not require large amounts of training.[2] A subversive is something or someone carrying the potential for some degree of subversion. In this context, a "subversive" is sometimes called a "traitor" with respect to (and usually by) the government in power. Terrorist groups generally do not employ subversion as a tool to achieve their goals. Subversion is a manpower intensive strategy and many groups lack the manpower and political and social connections to carry out subversive activities.[3] However, actions taken by terrorists may have a subversive effect on society. Subversion can imply the use of insidious, dishonest, monetary, or violent methods to bring about such change.

Where on the list of CIA misdeeds does this lie, and why are you not posting about #1 on said list ?

With being the CIA, who knows how wide ranging their misdeeds are. It's top secret for a reason. Before someone accuses me of being a Castro apologetic or some garbage like that, yes the Cuban government has done some bad things. But this was a process of coercing the people to rise up against them and take action. That can lead to many bad things and people would be killed. Check every country in the past few year that have gone through or are still going through major changes where the population is rising up. Met with violent police actions resulting in deaths on both sides.

If we found out if anyone else did that to the USA, you'd see a crapstorm. It really does not matter where it is on the list, the fact you put it on a list, seems to make it a concern.

Exactly. So let's focus on the top priority items first.

I think we've already heard about things like this happening. There have been operations and press funded by China and the Soviet Union....

It's called prioritizing. This is how you direct resources towards solving problems.

We should be upset about it because these various central intelligence agencies claim to be looking out for our security but they cause most of our insecurity in the first place. Intentionally trying to cause political unrest in other countries can get a lot of people killed.

Where else are they doing that? Did they start start political unrest in the Ukraine? What about Syria?

Why should our government be using our tax dollars to distabilize other countries that pose no threat to us what-so-ever? How on earth could anyone NOT be bothered by that?

These large central intelligence agencies the the various espionage acts that accompanied them grew out of world war 2 and they have not provided us with even a shred of security. They have started the majority of wars, got millions of people killed, dealth drugs, guns, murder and just about everything else you can think of. We would be way more secure if we just shut them down.

The very last way to fix all the problems with out governments behavior is to casually dismiss them like you have, and make excuses for all the twisted crap they do. In fact is that exact apathy that has gotten us to where we are now.

I know! We shouldnt prosecute theives because theres murders out there! Get a grip man, your logic here is so fallacious its comical.

Iv seen GhostHacked post about the CIA's role in causing 911, arming both sides of conflicts, blundering the US into Iraq and getting hundreds of thousands of people killed, overthrowing democratically elected governments. I've seen him condemn the industrial scale surveillance machine and the way its now been pointed at us.

We discuss current affairs on this site dude... Jesus. Are you suggesting that if indirectly causing 911 is the "#1" thing on the list that we should just talk about that forever and ignore everything else that happens.

Are you kidding or something?

There are too many parts of the US government that are adversaies of freedom and peace. The CIA, NSA, Department of Defense etc., maybe you can even extend to the White House and much of Congress.

Let's briefly go over the last decade shall we? (list is far from complete):

- Illegal invasion of Iraq based on mass global deception propaganda campaign

- Abu Ghraib prison scandal

- illegal torture at Gitmo & elsewhere

- international rendition

- illegal drone strikes into Pakistan etc.

- PATRIOT Act and ammendments to FISA

- Obama signs extension to PATRIOT Act

- NSA PRISM program (among other secret mass surveillance programs)

- CIA subversion in Cuba

Captain America would be so proud!

The US has been inserting themselves into Cuba illegally in far more ways than a fake twitter. The whole dissident movement in Cuba is an American fabrication. They pay people to create fake dissident organizations, then when those people get arrested for being foreign agents, they get paid even more to claim their rights were abused. It's pure propaganda.
