Gov. Sarah Palin's Keynote at CPAC 2014

Recommended Posts

Her speech was AMAZING! It underscores her natural political talent. Now I realize people don't like her, I get that, or her politics. But that doesn't discount her ability. One just has to look at her convention speech.

Agreed...no matter what one may think of Gov. Palin, she knows how to deliver a full frontal assault on her ideological rivals. Comfortable, confident, excellent timing with non-verbals that endear her to the partisan crowd. I was just flipping through channels early this morning after "springing forward", and caught this by chance. To borrow copy from a Loving Care hair dye commercial in the 70's, Gov. Palin is not getting older...she is getting better.

Ok I listened to this while I played with Shadow, and honestly I don't hear anything worth talking about....

...I get that Republicans like this stuff because it gets the team fired up. Ok, that's fine. But is there one thing in this entire speech you could show a person who wasn't already a Republican and say "here's an idea you should think about" or "here's something that might change your mind"? I'd suggest that no, there is not.

Perhaps you dismissed her observation about "young people" having to pay....a subject near and dear, no ?

Yes... the appeal to strong women ("Grizzly Mama") angle might convert a few fence sitters. Single heads of household are being hit by the Obamacare roll out, and it's not all peaches and cream.

straw poll results: Rand Paul, 'winner, winner, chicken dinner'!

looks like the bridge lane closure guy has some work to do. It's terribly disconcerting to see those wascally liberal sites calling 'Neurosurgeon Ben Carson' the 'token black guy'... just like Cain in 2012.

Yep. Following her Obamacare suckas description of young people, she played off the Obama, you are the change you've been looking for nonsense. She said, turns out you HAVE the change they (the Obama administration) was looking for. You have the fives, the tens, the twenties.

It was brilliantly delivered and a great point about wealth transfer from the young to the old.

Ah, young people, they will never get old or ever get sick. Sarah says so.

Well, right now, thanks to Obama, they can stay on their parents plans until age 26. So they ain't gonna be signing up. Even though they make up a large part of the people Obamacare needs to work. Brilliant legislation aint it? The very people you need for the program to work, you give an out until 26. Just part of the trainwreck.

if you leave those things aside and look at the parts where he talks about how Republicans have lost sight of the regular guy, I think he makes important points.

You're absolutely right. This is why the Republicans are suffering and good for Santorum for pointing it out. What's funny (read: ironic) about the whole thing though is that even while recognizing that the GOP is out of touch, he makes comments that show he has absolutely no idea of how to get back in touch. That's what I was driving at there.

How old do you suppose kids are these days by the time they go to college, get a full-time job, and start paying back their student debts? What's the average age of people starting their own families in the US? Do you have any idea what the transition to adulthood looks like these days?

Tax increases? This is a conservative conference. If you wanna hear about the government taking more of people's income, abortion on demand, and the repeal of the second amendment, attend a democrat conference, which would better suit your left leaning politics.

Ronald Reagan raised taxex when he felt that was needed. Conservatives believe in efficient government and believe in paying for it. Republicans... it's not clear they even believe in government.

In the US, a 'conservative'

Hates government

Hates taxes

Hates abortion

Hates queers

Loves God

Loves guns

And that's basically their whole belief system.

Argus comment was in relation to CPAC. CPAC isn't a republican conference. It's a conservative conference. The Republican Party itself has nothing to do with it. Perhaps you and especially him are misinformed.

Lotta Democrats at this conference, are there?

You're right kimmy. But I think that Santorum has in some cases has been his own worst enemy. So some people just assume a speech by him will be the same stuff from the past.

I thought Rand Paul was especially good too. "What you do on your cellphone is none of their (NSA) damn business".

Libertarians are to Anarchists what Socialists are to Communists.

But while Socialists are guilty of letting their wishy-washy desire to have the government help everyone get in the way of economic good sense, Libertarians are the opposite. Libertarians aren't interested in government helping ANYONE. If you're a Libertarian, you only care about YOU. Let everyone else die, as long as your taxes get cut.

Lol, you're trotting out the "Reagan raised taxes" meme. How about you weight his tax cuts with his tax increases and then get back to me. I swear everything you write about American conservative politics is right from leftwing blogs. It's all right out of the stereotypical handbook. As for your list, it's all oversimplification, void of any critical thinking. I could post the same list, but replace hate with love regarding democrats, if I wanted to be equally simplistic and lazy.

Complete and utter nonsense and projection. Just more oversimplification and intellectual laziness. If you don't even want to try to understand these subjects, it might be best to just stay out of them. Because you're just acting like a child.

So the GOP solution to healthcare is making cutesy Dr Seus poems? What's their actual solution? Oh, wait................

Nope, it's not their solution. You can find health care legislative proposals at GOP.gov, but again, CPAC is not affiliated with the Republican Party. I'm not sure why that so hard for some of you to understand. Just as the net roots conference which is a platform for progressives that often invites several democrats to speak isn't affiliated with the DNC. It's a privately organized entity. Some of you are stuck on stupid.

Every time i see palin speak, I am reminded of a research done in Canada:

So right-wingers are stupid – it’s official. Psychologists in Canada have compared IQ scores of several thousand British children, who were born in 1958 and 1970, with their stated views as adults on things such as treatment of criminals and openness to working with or living near to people of other races. They also looked at some US data which compared IQ scores with homophobic attitudes.

The conclusion: your intelligence as a child correlates strongly with socially liberal views. People with low IQs tend to be more in favour of harsh punishments, more homophobic and more likely to be racist. Interestingly, as these were IQ scores measured when young this does seem to be a measure of something innate, not merely exposure to ‘liberal’ views through education.
