Mulroney on Trudeau Jnr

Recommended Posts

“I’ve known Justin since he was a child. He’s young, articulate, attractive – a flawlessly bilingual young man. What’s not to like with this picture?” he said.

“Anybody who … treats Justin Trudeau with scorn or derision or underestimates him, does so at his own peril,” he said.

“We’ll see what happens in the future; it’s a long way from here to there. But no one should underestimate Justin. He’s a man of some consequence.”

CTV

1. Mulroney is a federalist.

2. Mulroney - at arm's length - wants to help Harper.

I would take Mulroney a thousand times over Stephen Harper. Here is a Conservative that understands the place of social responsibility within the paradigm of conservative values.

Also a crook who takes big payoffs in cash.

Sure but the guy we elected after was also a crook so it boils down to the times.

No, it doesn't. It boils down to them both being crooks with the morals of alley cats. I might not like Harper very much but there's no evidence at all he has that particular moral flaw.

Evidence usually surfaces just before the fact.

Harper's fiscal improprieties are all electoral based. Let's not forget that these issues seem to always come to light after their terms are over.

Chretien's corruption was fairly well-known after his first term, and rumors surrounded Mulroney and his ministers for much of his term in office. I would be very surprised if anything similar ever came to light about Harper.

He's not formidable at all. His name is formidable, and he's formidable enough to take advantage of that. Barring his name, he'd still be a drama teacher.

I'm not sure whose opinion I should believe now. The guy who has watched Trudeau grow up and been around him his whole life or the internet poster with an opinion to the contrary.

I'll have to think about this one.

Because Brian Mulroney is famous for his honesty and integrity, right?

Aside from Left or Right, and given what is happening in Montreal, don't underestimate Harper's reputation for being Mr. Clean (another Claude Ryan or U Thant!) The fact is that Harper has never accepted a brown envelope - and even people in Toronto know that he's not that "kinda guy".

----

With that said, in a pickle, I'd prefer to have a smart crook by my side if the alternative was an honest fool.

Except no one has ever suggested Harper was a fool, either.
