socialist
As a soon to be public school teacher I am eleated that the Liberals have made up for McGuinty's mistakes by trying to take away our democratic rights. The deal will be good for us young teachers. This deal will get the Liberals another majority. I will go back to supporting them. Teachers are a forgiving group and we just want to be treated fairly. Thanks to Wynne for cleaning up the mess that she inherited. Treat teachers with respect and we will respect you back. get on our bad side and we along with our progressive unions will fight for our democratic rights. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/education/ontario-sick-days-deal-softens-blow-to-younger-teachers/article10667008/
Mighty AC
Socialist, this change doesn't effect you in any way. This is a small change in the one time payout of previously banked days. A source said that the deal will be paid for with savings found elsewhere in the contract terms. I'd like to see some details on where in the 'contract terms' the money will be taken from. I have no problem with shifting where current contract money is being spent, as long as total costs do not increase. If the elimination of a sick/bereavement/family care day or some other offset pays for the increased payout in banked days, then great.A tiny change like this isn't the driving force behind the government and unions playing nice. Unions would rather just get a longer deal signed now and avoid Hudak as long as possible.
Shady
You were suppose to be a teacher last year.

socialist
Well....for one he can spell, and he isn't a teacher. You guys can't discuss the issue so you rely on personal attacks. Incompetency breeds immaturity I guess.
MiddleClassCentrist
How do you even know what the deal is? How do they? Media blackout, nothing has been released. Socialist, you completely forgot about the new seniority based hiring process. You have to be an occasional teacher to apply to the, temporary teacher list (LTO), or to contract. 5 most senior candidates must be considered. You'll be on the bottom, if you manage to get on. I already have my foot in the door. Don't worry about me; worry about yourself and your lack of knowledge on the subject of public education. MiddleClassCentrist
Is socialist one of Shady's personas? A troll, to be sure. Being completely ignorant of the new hiring practices and other events that anyone who has teachers in the family know about makes it even more questionable. punked
Wrong! Last year was my second last year. I'm done soon, and have some leads on some positions ffor next year. What have you got going for you? Teaching programs in Canada are 2 year programs unlike the stated where you can go into a 4 year education program. Something in this post doesn't add up and what is is someone trying to pretend they are an education student. It's the long con hut when Shady and Punked agree on something it is usually right and we can both see you don't pass the sniff test. Mighty AC
Based on his comments it is unlikely that he is in an ed program; but there are concurrent programs in Ontario. Students can earn their undergrad and ed degrees simultaneously. Edited April 4, 2013 by Mighty AC
Wilber
Banking sick days in case you have an extended illness is fine, getting paid out for unused sick days is ridiculous. Sick days are for when you are sick, not deferred salary.
