Signals.Cpl
Nobody? Certainly not the USofA or Nato, Icelanders themselves perhaps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cod_Wars Yeah during the cold war Iceland defended itself because of this stelar example of them having an economic disagreement with the UK. See if this was a real war as you are trying to present it as the British would have steamrolled through the "defences" of Iceland with only a couple of destroyers. I would think the fact that Iceland had an American Garrison defending it for over 30 years proves that the US defended Iceland...but don't let facts get in your way. Iceland was so weak circa 1940 that there was a real worry a single U-Boat crew could take the place if they found out HOW weak. The British landed soon after...then the Americans later in the war. wyly
who protects Costa Rica, no one they and they abolished their military and none of it's neighbours have invaded...in fact the biggest military threat to central american states has always been the USA, it has a well established record of invading there... there are a number of countries that the russians and chinese could crush should they wish and the US would do nothing to interfere as nuclear war is the possible end point...but yet the chinese and russia don't invade these countries, the russian's actually cut loose a number of countries from the old USSR, that's hardly typical behaviour of an aggressive state... the country that has invaded more countries than russia or china is the USA... Signals.Cpl
who protects Costa Rica, Monroe Doctrine? And not every little insignificant nation should have a military, why would the USSR need Costa Rica when they had Cuba as an Ally? What would the Soviet Union get from invading Costa Rica that would be worth the potential war with the US? no one they and they abolished their military and none of it's neighbours have invaded... Look at the population of Costa Rica and their paramilitary forces, they are proportionally really close to Canada based on population. They Abolished their military but transferred many of the abilities to their national police forces and expended them to meet the growing responsibilities. Thats like disbanding the CF and transferring its responsibilities, budget, equipment and manpower to the RCMP and saying we abolished the military hence we are defenceless. in fact the biggest military threat to central american states has always been the USA, it has a well established record of invading there... The biggest threat to Central American states is themselves rather than the US. there are a number of countries that the russians and chinese could crush should they wish and the US would do nothing to interfere as nuclear war is the possible end point... Like? but yet the chinese and russia don't invade these countries, And why did that happen? Maybe because those nations were irrelevant? The gain was too small when the risk of war with NATO and the US was ever present? the russian's actually cut loose a number of countries from the old USSR, Was that before or after the end of the Cold War? that's hardly typical behaviour of an aggressive state... Lets ask Hungary(1956) and Czechoslovakia(1968)... I want to know which were these countries that the USSR let go so willingly... the country that has invaded more countries than russia or china is the USA... Actually if we are to be historically accurate I would say it would be the British... Quote Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst

DogOnPorch
Don't be so sure... lol...indeed. Iceland got fed-up with German U-Boats pretty fast. They had mined the waters and were sinking Icelandic fishing boats in droves. They were eventually armed and given training in mine removal by the Allies. I doubt it, fore most of the movers and shakers within the Egyptian military are US trained………I would think a more likely outcome of Morsi giving such an order would be a self inflicted regime change……..With the next President wearing shoulder boards…….. I think that's the idea....the US didn't want the balance of power to get too out of whack. Israel still has the inside track to the best kit and favor. Lock-Mart F-16 production in Fort Worth is filling small orders for Iraq and Oman as well, barely keeping the line and supply chain open. I sat in one of these last year at the state fair (National Guard bird). It is really small compared to an F-4G ! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
