Boges Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 (edited) This must piss teachers off. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/laugh.gif Taxpayers could end up on the hook for paying even more money for the politically motivated cancellation of an Oakville power plant if secret documents are released too soon, Premier Dalton McGuinty warned Friday. In the wake of a ruling that found Energy Minister Chris Bentley broke the rules by not revealing the papers, the premier is pleading with opposition party leaders for more time to complete negotiations. “The issue before us is not whether this information should be released, but when,” he wrote in letters to NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and her Progressive Conservative counterpart Tim Hudak. The speaker of the legislature, Dave Levac, ruled Thursday that the parties have until Sept. 24 to reach a deal on releasing the documents requested by MPPs on the estimates committee in May. Conservative House Leader Jim Wilson said that deadline is not flexible and urged the minority Liberal government to reveal the papers as soon as possible. “The solution is simple: hit print and table the documents now,” Wilson told reporters. “The people of Ontario deserve to know what the seat saver program cost.” Rival parties have been critical of the government for cancelling the Oakville plant — in a riding held by Liberal MPP Kevin Flynn — two years ago this fall and another plant in Mississauga near the end of last fall’s whisker-close election campaign that saw the Liberals’ majority reduced to a minority. We can't release these documents yet! They contain information that makes us look really really bad. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/rolleyes.gif Stick a fork in this party, they're done! Wild Bill Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 This must piss teacher off. We can't release these documents yet! They contain information that makes us look really really bad. Stick a fork in this party, they're done! Sadly Boges, they likely are NOT done! Tim Hudak is an expert at doing nothing to exploit any advantage. Unless the PCs get a more vibrant leader, I expect Dalton will be comfortable in his chair for a while yet. As I keep saying, any salesman knows that it is not enough to have your competitor look bad. You also have to make yourself look BETTER! People tend to stick with the Devil they know rather than go for an unknown choice. Hudak has all the inspiration and charisma of overcooked spaghetti! He just doesn't look like a better choice. He is an unknown, in brown shoes and tie. Dalton may keep pissing people off but Tim just doesn't shine enough to sway enough mainstream voters. It's really a shame. People can't put a finger on what's wrong with Hudak. I'll tell you the likely reason he lost last October, is Hudak didn't differentiate himself, policy wise, from McGuinty. Now McGuinty is basically using the Tory platform in trying to legislate a wage freeze on public servants. Quote

Ya, he tries to talk like a Harris neanderthal, But he flies like a dodo bird. Dalton otoh is pure Liberal politician, Talks like he cares about people, Governs like a predator. And he's prone to expensive off-the-cuff mistakes. Fortunately there is a very viable third alternative in Ontario. Quote

Now McGuinty is basically using the Tory platform in trying to legislate a wage freeze on public servants. Hudak didn't differentiate himself from other conservatives. "Hey, I'm just like this Harper and Ford guy combined!" didn't sell very well. Even a slogan of "A different type of conservative" could have changed it. Last year's provincial election was more about smoke and mirrors from all parties. Quote Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.

Boges Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 I think the problem isn't the sales pitch, but the product. He just doesn't get it done! Remember McGuinty lost his first election too. John Tory should have been allowed to retain leadership of the party but he ran in a very unsafe riding then forced a popular MPP to step down to try and win a seat in a bi-election in the Kawarthas and got punished for it. I can't find a link yet but I just heard on the radio the Ontario Liberals are in the mid 20's and the NDP and PCs are statistically tied in the mid 30's but it was also said that the NDP doesn't have a broad enough support across the province to gain too many seats. Proportional representation FTW. Quote
Boges Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Here's the Link http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/politics/archives/2012/09/20120917-070251.html Polling company Forum Research projects that would translate into a minority Conservative government. The NDP lose seats because the votes are badly distributed for them. Based on these figures, Forum projects a seat count of PCs, 48; Liberals, 30; and NDP, 29. The poll also revealed Premier Dalton McGuinty's popularity is slumping. Only 24% of those polled approve of his leadership of the party. McGuinty faces a leadership review at the party's annual general meeting in Ottawa the weekend of Sept. 27-30. Delegates will be asked to vote on a motion asking if they want a leadership convention. Of Liberals polled, 39% said they wanted a leadership convention, while 43% of all Ontarians polled said they'd favour a review. "Nine years in power have caught up to the Liberals quite suddenly," said Broadview spokesman John Laforet. "The party brand has taken a number of hits and even Liberals are ready to cast off McGuinty, " he said. "This is all the more serious as Liberal delegates prepare to vote on his future at the end of the month." Quote

The New Democrats were not buying McGuinty’s new argument Monday, saying a ruling last week by Speaker Dave Levac in the legislature found Energy Minister Chris Bentley breached parliamentary privilege by not releasing the documents as demanded in May by MPPs on the estimates committee. I don't blame the Electorate one bit. That same Electorate Elected Rob Ford, and Elected Federal Conservative MPs. The also Elected a number of NDP MPPs and MPs. THerefore.... I think Hudaks done a great job of keeping Dalton in office. Congrats Tim.... and blew 2 by elections too.... Whats that 0 for 5? And while you got your Hudak blame game fingers pointed at 416 Might I ask how Popular Donna Scully , TV persona , seen daily on CHCH lost in a Very Rural, and Conservative Urban riding outside of 416? Oh wait, that was the Unions.... or something... Edited September 17, 2012 by madmax Quote
