Hillary Clinton & Mitt Romney Versus Barack Obama

Recommended Posts

As the mainstream media circles the wagons for Barack Obama aka Jimmy Carter 2.0, it's important to remember that Hillary Clinton also objected to the embarassment of a statement from the Cairo embassy.

Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney Versus Barack Obama

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got it right. The Middle East desk at the State Department got it right, too. And so did Mitt Romney. All three correctly rejected the initial Cairo Embassy statement on the developing violence in Egypt and Libya as weak and inappropriate. And yet Romney was the only one to become the focus of media ire for it.

...

The sequence of events is becoming clear: Embassy Cairo ignored the advice of Hillary Clinton’s State Department and issued the statement anyway. When Romney condemned it, President Obama issued a statement criticizing Romney. Clinton was left shocked and upset that the draft statement she rejected was actually issued over her objections.

A State Department official told me that Clinton rejected the Cairo statement because it was weak. “It started from an awful place,” said the official. “The Secretary knew that Romney would use it against her and the president.” Clinton feared that her department was going to hand a political issue to Romney at a decisive moment.

Not only that, but now Obama's had to walk back his "Egypt is not an ally comment."

White House clarifies Obama’s statement that Egypt is not an ‘ally’

President Barack Obama didn't intend to signal any change in the U.S.-Egypt relationship last night when he said Egypt is not an "ally," the White House told The Cable today.

...

“I think folks are reading way too much into this,” Vietor said. “‘Ally’ is a legal term of art. We don’t have a mutual defense treaty with Egypt like we do with our NATO allies. But as the president has said, Egypt is longstanding and close partner of the United States, and we have built on that foundation by supporting Egypt’s transition to democracy and working with the new government.”…

Administration sources told The Cable that Obama’s “ally” comment was not pre-arranged or prepared by staff and that the question was not anticipated.

Hmm, sounds a lot like somebody shooting from the hip. Perhaps Obama is unaware that Egypt has been an ally for 40+ years and is designated so by federal statute. #SmartPower

Anyways, it's left many people scratching their heads...

Of course, this is all happening at the same time we find out that absolutely no increase in security was issued at American embassies in the Middle East ahead of the Sept 11 anniversary. #SmartPower

ALL OF YOUR FACTS ARE WRONG!!!! Romney didn't criticize the embassy at all he criticized the President for a state he NEVER made. End of topic.

Nope. The statement specifically mentioned the Obama administration. Not Obama himself. Nice try, nice spin. Anyways, how do you feel about Obama insisting that Egypt isn't an ally? Only today to have the State Department completely disagree, affirming them as an ally. Pretty crazy huh?

Yep and he specifically talked about an apology right? That was specifically given after the attacks. One problem the statement came out BEFORE the attacks. Welcome to stop being an idiot 101. Not only that no apology was ever given. Another NOT FACT because it was a lie. Also he said the ADMINISTRATION stood by the the tweet. IT NEVER DID THAT ANOTHER LIE. NOT FACT. LIE.

You know you've gaffed when...

Jimmy Carter Corrects Obama

President Carter spoke to Drake University in Des Moines and was asked if he agrees with what Obama said about Egypt:

Carter: "Egypt is an ally of the US, we know Egypt well."

President Obama had earlier stated during an interview: Obama: 'Ya know, I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we do not consider them an enemy. '

Carter went on to Talk about Egypt's new President , Carter says he knows him well and has met with him. Carter said Egypt's president is dedicated to peace and truly a democratic government

I like Carter even though it's taboo to say that these days, but I disagree with him on this. The Egypt of today is very new; Obama has it right, the lines aren't quite clear yet.

You know Shady is desperate when he starts using Carter to support his point.

or when the Shady starts advocating for Eqypt's Muslim Brotherhood... just to presume to score points against Obama. Oh how the (less than) mighty Shady has fallen!

Why do liberals always go so ad hominem on conservatives? Just argue the point, or is your point so weak?

Liberals are like children or women: irrational anger. Conservatives are generally smart people with a more independent viewpoint on the world. Yet some people would

have us all believe they are evil demons who are racist.

Jer, I didn't appreciate your sensitivities! But c'mon... given the Shady's past comments concerning the Muslim Brotherhood, when he tries to score points against Obama using the Muslim Brotherhood, well, he's going to get called on it.

argue the point? You mean where Romney shot first and aimed later? Where Romney tried to score political points in the midst of Americans being killed? Where Romney didn't have an understanding of the timeline... where he wrongly reacted against the Cairo embassy statement as if it had been released coincident to the actual protests? Where Romney accused Obama of sympathizing with terrorists/protestors? Where Romney stated Obama and the Obama administration "apologized"... when no apology was given/exists?

argue the point Jer... I have googly warming up to spew out negative criticisms that came Romney's way... from Republicans! From Republicans Jer!

Not sure where I stand on this. It's debatable whether or not Romney was right in criticizing the (Obama's) diplomat position about "respecting religion" above freedom of speech. Should that statement be attributed to the Obama administration? Maybe. But it's a stretch. Romney was probably wrong to try to attribute that statement directly to Obama. In fact he was certainly wrong. But the spirit of what he said was correct.

Obama thinks the same way most of the people on this site think: that America had it coming.

Romney screwed the pooch and he's been in backpedal recover mode ever since. Again, the innocuous Cairo embassy statement was released long before any of the protestors arrived... did any of them even see it - would they have cared even if they had - duh!

so wow! Good on ya Jer - you actually agree Romney was wrong... but you say, the "spirit of what he said was correct" - say what! What spirit?
