US Ambassador to Libya killed in attacks

Recommended Posts

How is one to know that one's fellow humans, instead of rationally critiquing the video on the points of it that they disagree with, will rampage through an embassy like unleashed beasts? Besides, investigations now seem to be showing that the protest outside the embassy was merely used as a distraction by an armed terrorist group that had planned the attack in advance, to coincide with the anniversary of 9/11.

Only someone who has been living in a cave wouldn't know. You can' t honestly believe that Jones isn't trying to provoke a reaction with his crap?

It does look like this was a planned act.

Jones was releasing a video. He is free to consider other people's reactions, or not to do so. People release inflammatory videos all the time. Videos denying the Holocaust, or even glorifying it, for example. Should people be free to release such videos because Jews are a generally peaceful bunch and unlikely to kill people in response, while being prevented from releasing videos offensive to Muslims? No.

If anything, the immaturity of many Muslims on such matters makes confronting the issue even more important. The world must be inundated with material that offends Muslims until they grow tired of being offended all the time and get on with their lives like mature adults. The Church tortured and killed people for criticizing and disagreeing with it too.

It does look like this was a planned act.

Indeed, and that pretty much makes the bulk of the debate in this thread a moot point.

It's no coincidence that this happened during an election. Either Obama responds with military force or he loses the election. Or both. And both is what works bests for the extremists.

There's no better recruiting campaign for Islamic extremism than to have US troops in Islamic countries. And the Republican nut jobs are on the whole, much more likely to put them there than the Dems.

Er I just read some more about this incident and it appears that Jones didn't write, produce, direct, or star in the video. He wasn't even involved with its production. He happened to display the trailer. What the heck does this even have to do with him? Wtf? Seriously, wtf? Go complain about youtube for also hosting the trailer.

Edit: Here it is by the way:

Your freedoms don't include the right to stomp all over the lives of other. Freedom without responsibility is anarchy.

If you know and indeed are counting on innocents dieing as a result it sure does.

So what that means, Wilber, is that we have to worry not only about the legality of speech in our countr(ies) but the propriety of speech in every country on the globe?

election timed? Or, in terms of the Egypt & Libya 'protestors', timed to nothing more than the video appearing on youtube... in terms of the speculated extended attack in Libya, equal speculation on the timing to coincide with 9/11 commemorations

stated many times over earlier in the thread. Initial media updates incorrectly attributed the film producer to be a U.S. American - "Sam Bacile"... who was said to self-claim as an Israeli Jew. Further media updates have identified this "Sam Bacile" as a false identity used by

"Nakoula Basseley Nakoula - a U.S. California Coptic Christian" (MLW member, 'bud', initially brought this to light - in this post).

well... there we have it! Romney's campaign immolation stems from watching too much Fox News. Romney... done in by Fox News!

Sometimes, timing is everything.

It is clear now that much of the misunderstanding surrounding the statement by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo stems from the fact that some commentators thought it has been issued after protesters stormed the embassy compound. Instead, the embassy had released it hours before the protests began, in an apparent effort to cool down emotions over a film that defamed the prophet Muhammad.

But elements of the statement also were placed in the embassy’s Twitter feed — and it gained new prominence in retweets after the storming of the embassy.

Take a look at the Fox News video clip, from Tuesday evening, and one can see how such impressions take hold.

Well, here the world goes again, the US has sent warships to watch over libya. Hasn't the American public had enough of wars? Its sad that the US ambassador and other have died but if NATO hadn't gone into Libya for their own interest, the US ambassador would probably be alive today and the country wouldn't be in such a mess. This is Iraq all over again and it will contain until the American public says enough is enough. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/video/us-sending-warships-libya-101618125.html

Just watched it: poorly made, poorly acted, too overt in its message and unconvincing. Just bad really. Not worth the 14 minutes to watch the trailer, let alone kill anyone over.

If it was made about Christianity I bet it would get a Canadian Government grant.

I just heard on the radio that a Hindu leader wants to do a screening of this movie in Canada. They should be allowed to.

If it means innocents may suffer as a result of what we say, at the very least it deserves some reflection. It is one thing to respect a persons right to say something. It is quite something else to absolve them of all responsibility for any consequences

If you know and indeed are counting on innocents dieing as a result it sure does.

This is bullshit. Bill Maher insults religion all the time. Works of art depicting peeing on Jesus happen all the time. Passion of the Christ insulted Christian groups.

The problem is, pretty much everything insults Islam. There was a Muslim man in ENgl;and who threatened and caused burger king to change the chocolate swirl on top of their ice cream cone because it resembled the Arabic symbol for allah. Then there was the threat against the adult shop for having a blow up doll named "Mustafa Shag". Strange, you'd think people would be more concerned about real men named Mustafa blowing up, but I digress  And funny you couldn't even get a single liberal up in arms about someone else trying to mess with a sex shop. Sexual liberty is the only kind of liberty a liberal will stand up for. To hell with the first amendment, I need my shaggin'. LOL!

Your reaction is the exact opposite of what should be happening. Filmmakers and reporters are always patting themselves on the back about being "brave" and "transgressive". Well here it is: real bravery would involve every media outlet on the planet airing this movie. Not because it is good, but because it represents the opposite of cowering in the corner, announcing to Islam that all you have to do is blow something up and we will all cow tow to your vision of the world: a world that never insults the prophet.

They have blasphemy laws in places in this world, countries where insulting Allah is off limits: they're called Saudi Arabia. Now we may have "freedom of speech" de jure in this country, but if you are going to let some piss ant Muslims intimidate everything you publish, then you don't have freedom of speech de facto, and you may as well be in Saudi Arabia.

Look at the Times Square Viacom attempt: mad at "Southpark" for the muhammed bear thing.

This is the problem with liberals, and they're too dumb to realize they're doing it. They pretend to be all "freedom of artistic integrity" until it's something that they don't like. Liberals didn't like Clint's awesome mockery of Obama in the empty chair, so they dragged it through the mud. "You can't make fun of Obama!!!"

Same goes for Muslims. But Jesus is OK. It's a tricky double standard. The bottom line? If it doesn't agree with their worldview, it's just not funny.

It's OK to tell a catholic university like Georgetown to do things it finds religiously unconscionablee, but never ever make a film that insults the prophet Muhammed. Got it? See it now? LOL!! Maybe if the Catholics started blowing people up the liberals would have an ear for them.

See how stupid these people are? Basically encouraging violence to get your point across.

Bullshit, freedoms come with responsibilities

Could not agree more.

Funny how we talk about freedoms and ever since 9/11 Americans and Canadians have seen an incremental tear down of our rights and freedoms in the name of security because someone put a couple planes into a couple buildings. TSA?

The protesters in Cairo appeared to be a genuinely spontaneous unarmed mob angered by an anti-Islam video said to have been produced in the United States. By contrast, it appeared the attackers in Benghazi were armed with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades.

Intelligence reports are inconclusive at this point, officials said, but indications suggest the possibility that an organized group had either been waiting for an opportunity to exploit like the protests over the video or perhaps even generated the protests as a cover for their attack.

Yes the video provoked protests, but the murders

were preplanned.

Think Jones is a convenient excuse ... or is he preplanned and by whom?

Good points, and as I mentioned if these attacks are not based on what Jones put out, then what is the trigger for the attacks in Egypt, Libya, and now we have reports of it happening in Yemen.

And in typical lib fashion, when called on his "logic", he instinctively spouts the word "Paul Ryan" as defence.

Or "Bush did it!!!"

Both you and Shady have reading comprehension problems and cannot seem to follow threads at all. Even after some corrections are made, you both still hang on certain things.

But instead of having a problem with my post about Paul Ryan, you should have a problem with him saying that rape is just another form of conecption. Those are his words, not mine. And you want to vote in this clown as well as Romney to be the leaders of the country?

I was trying to think why you had not made a post in several years then all of a sudden you make a comeback only to jump on the Romney bandwagon.

And yes I was one that bashed Bush all the time. But after a while I started to understand the real power structure of the USA. And it does not lie with the POTUS. Since then I have changed my stance to say that it's foreign policy that drives what the USA does overseas. That much should be apparent to some of you. Not so much for others who have a hard time with critical thinking.

One more time, the west supported the rebels with elements of Al-Queda. And now we have those same rebels attacking the US embassies in those countries. What the hell did you people think would happen? You thought that democracy would burst out and instantly flourish in those countries?

That black flag that is being waved around is important to note. It's the flag of Al-Queda.

It's funny how partisan hacks can call me ill informed when they have no clue about why/how these countries are in turmoil. The west helped destabilize all of these countries to create the current issues we all see.

Yes these countries have their problems no one is claiming otherwise, but instead of working with them through political channels, I mean REAL political channels, the west has systematically undermine the regimes through support of rebels who have terrorists among them to send the whole area into turmoil.

And apparently the film has nothing to do with the attacks. So the question remains, what is really going on here?

Well there are still mass protests still going on so the movie must have a contributing factor.

Is it more damning or less damning for the state of fundamentalist Islam that they killed people at a US Embassy in Libya because of a movie or because they wanted to do something evil for the anniversary of 9/11?

What do you make of the west supporting the rebels in order to overthrow Gadaffi/Mubarak, and now these same rebels are attacking the US consulates?

Wrong.

The transitional rebel government forces fought against the terrorists along side the US Embassy security.

The attack was not a rebel action.

The terrorists act alone.

Wrong.

The transitional rebel government forces fought against the terrorists along side the US Embassy security.

So the west supported the rebels in order to be recognized as the transitional government, and after Gadaffi was gone, the rebels (who did have Al-Queda among them, the reports are there to prove that)are now attacking the embassies.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/12/world/africa/libya-attack-jihadists/index.html

(CNN) -- A pro-al Qaeda group responsible for a previous armed assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi is the chief suspect in Tuesday's attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, sources tracking militant Islamist groups in eastern Libya say.

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/196155.html

NATO forces are working with the terrorist group al-Qaeda to topple the last remnants of Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi's regime, says a political analyst.

In an exclusive interview with Press TV, Webster Tarpley, author and historian, says that the new rebel commander of Tripoli is a top al-Qaeda leader who used to work for the Afghanis and fight against the US.

Press TV: Do you think that Gaddafi and his family can get out of this situation alive?

Tarpley: I think that the Gaddafi family in whole or in part will survive and fight on for quite a long time. This is an open ended conflict and I don't think anyone can guarantee which way it's going to go especially in light of today's news. It is a shocking and unbelievable nightmarish report.

The new rebel commander, the military dictator of the city of Tripoli is none other than the infamous Abdul Hakim “Belhadj”. This is an international terrorist. He is a famous, notorious “genocidalist” of al-Qaeda. He has fought for al-Qaeda and carried out international terrorism all across the globe.

Do you recall how the Muhajedeen were funded?
