Colorado Shooting during the Dark Knight Rises

This is exactly why we shouldn't allow for ccw and the citizenry to take things in to their own hands. The patrons there were lucky that the guy with the gun didn't start shooting back at them and the shooter was lucky he didn't kill anyone as well. Stupid to fire out the door like that as well.

Last I’ve read, there’s over 5 million Americans with CCW permits……..And it’s hardly the OK Corral down there…………Here’s some statistics on crime in Texas, contrasted with crimes done by CCW holders:

I don't know of any assult on the nuclear family. I believe it is as strong as it ever was. But it's laughable that you would say gun violence was almost non-existent in the 40s and 50s, or that semi-automatic "assult" weapons were as plentiful as they are now. That's just not true. Facts are facts, and you can't just make them up when you're feeling uncomfortable about facilitating murder.

M1 Garands & M1 Carbines (To say nothing of captured Japanese and German weapons) were plentiful post-war and dirt cheap……..

Where'd they go?

No where other then lucky collectors safes........I'm not defending his point on actual numbers between then and now, but actual battle rifles were easily available post-war and an M1 Garand or Carbine were/are a much more lethal and reliable rifle then the vast majority of cheapo (relative term) sporty semi-auto AR-15 clones on the market today......

I don't dispute there was a lot of army surplus merchandise available either. I was just pointing out the ridiculous assertion that there were more guns then than there are now. He probably heard that after the war there were more guns than ever before and figured they must have meant "since" too.

Perhaps eh ;)

With that said, proportionately, guns and population have increased at relatively the same rate………That doesn’t translate necessarily into individual ownership, guns are after all expensive, and generally once one purchases a gun, they then purchase two or three or thirty more (A variable based on a wife’s tolerance) with a result being that any drastic blip in gun sales is usually a result of current gun owners purchasing more (popular) guns as opposed to a proliferation of new owners……….

Has violent gun crime risen over the last couple of decades. No it has dropped. But I’m certain it’s reported on with a greater frequency today then in the 80s (or 40s, 50s and 60s)……..Is this drop a result of new, tougher gun laws? Nope. The “assault weapons ban” in the States came and went with no major fluctuation in gun crime……Perhaps we’re becoming less violent (and older) but better informed……I dunno, but I do know guns “do not have inherent moral qualities”, they are steel, plastic and wood after all. ;)

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/evidence-shows-months-calculation-ahead-colorado-shooting-police-011346115.html The reports are they this guy planned this for the last four months. He bought 6000 rounds on -line but the guns were bought at a shop. I would really like to know what that shop owner is thinking right now and what they were thinking when a he bought 3-4 guns? The shop owners have to take some responsibilty in this. Edited by Topaz

He was probably thinking..."cash or charge?"

I once bought 500 rounds of 9mm parabellum for my old Taurus...because they were on sale! :)

Not sure where to put this thread but had a few questions for our American residents:

What type of gun regulations does Colorado have?

I mean, why did this guy manage to injure 71 people in all, with 12 fatalities?

Would not someone else have had a gun to take him down?

If Colorado had strict, New York type gun regulations, it would have been even less likely that a law-abiding person would have been armed and able to take him down. That is a major argument against gun control.

Though it is kind of demented to brag about buying ammo in a thread about a mass murder. It takes all kinds, I guess.

I wouldn’t say “bragging”, but both myself and BC are putting context to Topaz’s reporting of the shooter purchasing “6000 rounds”……..Couldn’t one also say it’s demented to be dancing on the graves of shooting victims and using such tragedies to further a political agenda? Or is it demented to compare said mentally ill shooter with millions of other people that happen to own guns?

1 in 5 canadians will go through a mental illness in their lifetime...so of the 2,000,000 gun owners 400,000 will suffer mental illness...

Are you suggesting that there have and or will be 400000 gun crimes in Canada, caused by legal gun owners, suffering from mental illness?
