cybercoma Posted March 31, 2012 Author Report Posted March 31, 2012 Nothing but spin. Close 50% of non-debt interest federal spending is on direct transfers to provinces, cities or individuals. These costs can be assigned directly to a province. The remaining costs are not enough to explain away the large difference in federal expenditures vs. revenue for each province. Go back and read the examples about why the costs and benefits cannot be so easily attributed to individual provinces. Quote
TimG Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 (edited) Go back and read the examples about why the costs and benefits cannot be so easily attributed to individual provinces.I disagree with the argument being made. Canada 'wide spending' (e.g. debt payments) can be allocated on a per capita basis and direct transfers to government and individuals can be added up. Edited March 31, 2012 by TimG Quote
bleeding heart Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 [...]and Harper was the captain who set the course of our ship of state. There's a word for such as this OP, "agitprop." Hmmmmm. Quote “There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. Eventually we came onside on Haiti, so we got another arrow in our quiver." --Bill Graham, Former Canadian Foreign Minister, 2007
bleeding heart Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 More nonsense. Yep, the 700,000 jobs created per month under the Reagan administration sure got it wrong. So...approximately sixty-seven million jobs? They had a...what? 30%, 35% unemployment rate before Reagan saved the nation? Strange that no one else seems to be aware of this staggering fact. Keepitsimple Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Good old Drummond. Trolling the Libs. Trolling the CPC harder. I can't watch it here at work, but do you remember the main talking points for why he thinks the feds are mis spending $100 Billion dollars? Completely out of context. I watched the video with Drummond. Firstly, it was an interview given 24 hours BEFORE the budget. Secondly, the $100 billion refers to the total of every single tax credit that the government gives - everything for both personal and business.....including tax credits for the poor, the elderly, the sick, caregivers, childcare, etc. It was Evan Soloman who categorized it as $100 billion of "mis-spending". Keepitsimple Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 (edited) A good way to measure whether tax cuts work is whether overall tax revenues go up. The purpose of tax cuts is to let businesses hire and invest and for individuals to spend. Even those who save are likely to invest in mutuals or stocks and thus help the economy. The opposite is true - raise business and personal taxes and companies and individuals have less to spend - less to hire and grow for business and less to spend for individuals. The Bob Rae/Mike Harris years were a good example. After coming out of the recession, taxes were sky high, companies were fleeing Ontario, and government revenues were low. The tax cuts came, companies started to return and government tax revenues ramped up substantially. You might not agree with how he cut costs - but tax revenues went straight up while taxes went down. Edited March 31, 2012 by Keepitsimple Quote Back to Basics
Jack Weber Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 So...approximately sixty-seven million jobs? They had a...what? 30%, 35% unemployment rate before Reagan saved the nation? Strange that no one else seems to be aware of this staggering fact. Nevermind the staggering fact the Free Marketeers are conveniently forgetting... It was Reagan's "Trickle Down" economic plan (see Uncle Milty and the boys from Chicago),that has led to jobs being shipped overseas...as the ultimate act of "freedom"...Those jobs that are not there now to help gat those 500,000+ jobs a month anymore... Thanks Free Marketeers! Thanks for our upward, pyramidical wealth redistribution excercise!!!! Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
