Evening Star Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Mulcair is the opposite of all of those things. He has the political speaking skills and intellectual combativeness of a Trudeau or young Mulroney. Saying some good things here: (By the same token, wyly, I wonder if we could say that the Conservatives would be really liberal by Euro standards when it comes to immigration and multiculturalism?) wyly Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) (By the same token, wyly, I wonder if we could say that the Conservatives would be really liberal by Euro standards when it comes to immigration and multiculturalism?) not even then, any country that wants free market growth immigration and multiculturalism is part of the deal...a trip to london or paris that both are very multicultural societies...not that many euro countries have their right wing extremist parties that want immigration blocked, we have them as well but they hide in the cpc... na85 Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 keep that delusion going it's going to hurt like biotch when it happens....layton was the most popular leader before and it didn't translate into seats in the HoC from english speaking canada, it was when mulcair ran in quebec that the ndp made the gains... I'll be sure to come back to this thread in 3 years and do an "I told you so" post. The Western provinces won't elect an NDP government, with the possible exception of some ridings in BC. I would also expect Liberal numbers to rise somewhat when they field a more palatable candidate, further splitting votes on the Left. Quote

Bryan Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Dion and Ignatieff are both academics who were uncomfortable, uncharismatic, and awkward as politicians and who both seemed a bit ambivalent and unsure on policy. Mulcair is the opposite of all of those things. He has the political speaking skills and intellectual combativeness of a Trudeau or young Mulroney. It's not a deficiency in his speaking skill, rather his lack of self-filter when he talks. He gets excited and starts saying crazy things that he probably doesn't even believe. in the euro political scene the NDP would be right of center...in the netherlands that "socialist" haven of legal prostitution and drug tolerance a right-wing coalition holds power, a right of center government that is now considering mobile euthanasia teams to assist people aiding them with their end of life requests.... Yeah, context is everything. The centre line has a pretty wide variance depending on where you're coming from geographically. The Conservatives would be considered extreme left-wingers by American standards. Quote

Ya and I'll come back three years to this post and do a "I told you so" People have bein saying the liberals would go up in the next election since 2004.What happened? And that the NDP wouldn't go anywhere or just lose seats. What happened? I don't think the NDP will be losing support until AFTER they win a majority! WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Bryan Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Yep thats what they think about their crime bill in Texas "Left wing policy" Actually they do. Our laws don't even come close to what the Democrats would think is the bare minimum that should be tolerated when dealing with crime. We're toughening our standards to a level that is still considerably below theirs. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 The NDP will not be winning the next federal election. Without a charismatic leader like Jack Layton we're going to see a big drop in support, particularly outside Quebec. The drop would have happened with Layton in charge too.
