Big Blue Machine
Just wondering?
caesar
While they are working? Or after we fire them. They have really good pensions for even short time service; plus a pretty good severance package when we kick them out.
Stoker
Yeah, the former NDP MP, Svend Robinson (the guy that stole expensive jewlery) got a trip recently to Scotland, even though he no longer held a seat in government......
playfullfellow
Yeah, the former NDP MP, Svend Robinson (the guy that stole expensive jewlery) got a trip recently to Scotland, even though he no longer held a seat in government...... Pretty well shows how much respect Mr. Robinson has for the Canadian tax payer. Hopefully he didn't visit any jewelry shows while in Scotland. That might start a war with Scotland if he did. The MP's also get a pretty good expense account too on top of all their other wages and benefits. These accounts are pretty well free to use as long as they don't get too extravagant. The pensions they get are absolutely atrocious especially for the service we get from these MP's while they are in parliament. They should only get the same as any other Canadian of their wage level does. If they want anything more, then they should have to pay extra themselves. Why should we have to keep paying for some of these jerks for years to come? I also wonder if we are still paying for services such as haircuts and manicures on parliament hill? That is also nuts if we are still paying for that kind of crap. No matter how you boil it down, we pay a lot for these MP's and for what really? So they can lie to us, steal from us and so forth. If we had some accountability from these MP's then I might not be so annoyed at the money we have to spend on these jerks.
udawg
As far as Svend Robinson goes, I don't know what he was doing in Scotland, but I do know that MPs have something like 30 days to wrap up their business, at the continued expense of the taxpayer. It makes sense, because it would be even worse to drop everything the instant an election is called and have to start all over, but the system does create room for abuse. Cartman
A portion of their salaries are tax free.
Big Blue Machine
And I think they don't pay GST on office supplies
caesar
I believe they get their booze tax free; I doubt if THEY pay for any office supplies.
Protest
Thats a big mistake we should only reward MP's who do there job correctly and get GOOD RESULTS. Look south of us, Bush wages wars, goes 90 billlion dollars back in debt, destroys economy, sends jobs overseas, and he's gonna get something like a 500,000 release pay if he doesn't get elected. He cant lose, win or lose this election.
