What`s with the JACK LAYTON quote stuck on the bottom....love is better than anger.....so never get angry - take the anger management course - embrace socialism - become bi-sexual....and all will be well - apparently Jack`s own teachings did not serve him well.

why be hatin', so much? At the time of Layton's death, your MLW status update messages concerning Layton's (cause of) death were bordering on despicable... not despicable in regards to whether or not they were true or false... despicable in terms of your implied negative insinuation concerning "life-style". Perhaps the saving grace for you was the fact there is no archive for board status messages. And now... you are a bit bolder... now in a post you've drawn "broad" attention to sexuality.

to allow yourself to be clearly understood, why not step out of the shadows of long-gone status messages, of broadly applied sexual innuendo - why not lay it out, front and center. Just as a matter of Oleg Bach stated fact, and for the formal MLW record, if you have something to firmly state about the cause of Layton's death or of Jack Layton's sexuality, state it - clear and precisely.

It was hear say - from the locals - one of which was Laytons neighbor.

I am sure IF it were true Jack would not be ashamed - but it would be catostrophic politcally - so lets leave it alone - - so do you have a problem if Jack experimented in boarderless socialist sex? I don't give a damn - but you do - cos...maybe you know something that other do not - and wish to hide it.

so... you posted a MLW status message you now acknowledge as hearsay. In the immediacy of announced death, you felt it appropriate to, as hearsay, attribute a cause of death, one highly charged with innuendo. You now extend on said hearsay/innuendo to reinforce a suggestion of "experimented boarderless socialist sex" (???). And then, to top all that off, you challenge my raised concern on your actions and have the unmitigated gall to imply I'm "hiding something"... ya ya, I'm hiding something by bringing notice of your repeated callous action to the forefront.
You want me to behave in a mercenary manner waldo? Not today - some people can not be bought - as for my hint or insinution...it was highly inflamatory and I retract any such statement..... besides.... being slightly mercenary - what's in it for me?

whatever this statement of yours actually means, my only desire in this raised posting is to bring notice on your continued inflammatory reactions to the deaths of others... hopefully bringing forward a recognition on your part that some MLW members value their contributions in life and interpret your most inflammatory statements as damaging, purposely so.
Also under the freedom of informations act - go get the offical coroners report - By then the election will be over - you should have done that on your own instead of depending on some old man on welfare.

yes, equally, I would suggest you take your own advice rather than presume to pass judgement at the time of death through inflammatory statement and innuendo.
Waldo....a message to you "why be hating so much at the time of Laytons death" - I'm not big on being moved with the mass on emotionalism...It was not Jack that brought on my attempt - It was the use of this mans death for political gain..that I thought was low....Just don't like the idea of mobilzing the drones via their heart strings - Jack was not a saint - he oringinated in an ideolgy that in some nations murdered millions of people - and revolutionaries such as Jack and his drones are the same types that murdered my grandfather for no good reason - making my father miserable and inturn making my childhood less than what it should have been...It was slightly personal - I just don't like mindless collectivism - or to treat their spear head leader as a saint - Jack was no saint - when caught in a body house - his wife during the election instead of saying Jack loved his pleasures - stated publically that it was a "registared massage therapist" and he was their for medical reasons////// When Oliva Chow lied - it made me wonder if they lie about a lot of things.

no - my question to you on 'why be hatin', so much' was broadly applied. Your words, as any of our words, have intended meaning and hold an accountability within them. Certainly, come at any politician you have reservations about... come hard, come often... but come with facts, reserved judgement or cautionary tact - not emotionally charged, inflammatory, and damaging comments based on nothing more than acknowledged hearsay, most particularly at a time of their passing.

Well good night boys and girls. This man has to go do an honest days work tomorrow. No, I don't clean urine, but nor do I disrespect those that have to do things like that. You will see one day when your sitting in your own filth, that will be the day when the great maker reminds you to be a bit more humble, and appreciate even the little people.

For now, sweet dreams. May visions of dollar signs fill your little heads.

Why do I suddenly feel like my Grand father just before the communists came to arrest him? It took the communists six full years to get a charge to stick - they finally shot him - then a month later put him on trial and found him guiltly - Does Waldo expect that in time there will be a full socialist take over of Canada - and all the disidents - and in Waldos' wierd perception I might be one of those guys he wants on record - so his type can round them up at a later date and sting them up...this message from Waldo has the air of a deadly future threat - and I don't appreciate it. Waldo seems to be some sort of icon worshiping fanatic who is willing to harm to others in the name of his god JACK.

Most disturbing is Waldos' quote : "perhaps the saving grace for you was in the fact that there is no archive for board status messages" - So Waldo sends me a subtle threat - and is trying to goad me into implicating myself by repeating a rumor I heard regardgin Layton - on the street level...There are only two ways you can interprete Waldo's motivation for this....HE is either a right wing extremeist who wants to discredit the left - or a leftie...that is out to get me.....neither way....is his request done in good faith - Unless Waldo blurt out himself what he expects me to - then I will remain private in my thoughts - as should he in his....so Waldo - behave yourself - you are not dealing with some university activist....I am an old man and I don't give a shit about YOUR lust for supposed power.....You my dear friend might just be a fanatic..which I suspect you are.

Complete nonsense.

By all accounts Jobs was a bit of a bastard. He did not suffer fools. But then again, that's probably part of the reason he was so very very successful. He pushed his management, he pushed his developers, he pushed his marketers. And look at where he took Apple after the doldrums of the late 1980s. And let's also remember that he wasn't some corporate-raiding CEO type, grabbing at every bonus, benefit and option available to him. The man made a dollar a year running Apple. He put his money where his mouth was and his own fortunes were tied to Apple's stock price. I wish more corporate leaders would follow his example.

I hope you're not talking about, Foxconn in China. They were contractors, not a division of Apple, and to Apple's credit, when it was revealed what was going on, they took what steps they could to try to sort out the situation. But again, they're contractors, so you can't just kick down the door and start making demands of management.

And in case you can't tell, I find the fact that people would use the death of one public figure to attack another utterly disgusting....and this isn't feigned outrage.
Both men were public figures and the media (and this forum) are discussing this. Did I "attack" Jack Layton? No, I merely compared the way Jobs organized his last few days with the way Layton did.

Smallc, rest assured that there will be ample opportunity to compare/discuss the many coming deaths of celebrities. (I think Hunter S. Thompson had himself fired out of a cannon but strictly speaking, that PR trick was later, after his death.)

The Baby Boom is about to become the Death Bulge.

Jack getting the federal NDP to their greatest electoral outcome, and Steve getting Apple to be one of the most valuable companies in the world.
I don't know if those two ideas deserve a single sentence. I was impressed when Jobs left Apple, its fortunes sank and then when he returned, it rose again. It was almost proof of the Ayn Rand view of the universe: Steve Jobs as John Galt.
OK...so that raises an interesting question: Do we prefer Jobs' fame and success over a longer life? Or is it better to play it safe and live to be an obscure and tiny obituary in the local paper, dead at age 85? I've already written mine!
I interpret your question in two ways: 1) is it better to live hard/fast at the risk of dying young? 2) will you accomplish more by living hard/fast as opposed to living sedately?

In Jobs' death, I don't see any evidence to answer either question. Cancer, like brilliance, seems a chance thing. We can't choose our parents; that is, our genetic inheritance is predetermined. For the rest, we can control to a degree our exposure to various cancer-inducing effects, and I suppose too our exposure to new ideas.

As far as Steve Jobs, well, there was a real man who provided real value to society.
That was my point above. In the long run, the future will recognize Jobs far more than Layton. Edited by August1991

I have no expectations of you. I offered you a suggestion, a most selectively applied one in terms of your now described, 'private thoughts'. Certainly, raised concern exists when thoughts transcend the private into the public, particularly when those thoughts are purposely intended to cause damage, most particularly when those thoughts are self-acknowledged to be based on hearsay only.

I like the iPods, but very much despise iTunes. It does not give me much room to organize the music myself when I import it into the computer. One album will span several folders because of the ID4 tags. Annoying really. So now I use WMP to import stuff and iTunes to transfer.

Not much experience with other Apples products. Macs are great, but way too bloody expensive.

  • 2 weeks later...

No one deserves cancer and it is sad that he died from it.

People loved Steve Jobs because they didn't actually know him. They were addicted to the technology his company designed.

But, Steve Jobs was a prick. Just read about how much of a crappy job it was to actually work with him from former employee's. He was an authoritarian who believed in censorship. He was "big brother", ironically the opposite of the 1984 commercial's implication.

The only charity he gave a lot of money to was the pancreatic cancer charity.

That says a lot about Steve Jobs.

And then there is his religious following of Apple Zombies... who don't know anything about technology and think that they actually get $200 worth of features when they buy the 64GB iPad over the 16B iPad.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates is one of the most charitable men in the world and one of the most villified.

I hope the Apple religion dissipates now that their messiah has passed.

Charity does not equal morality. Jobs created more wealth than anyone but a handful of other people. That wealth created economic activity providing jobs for millions of people all around the world. No charity can do that.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates is one of the most charitable men in the world and one of the most villified.

For all his efforts at charity, Gates' biggest contribution to the good of humanity will remain Microsoft, not the Gates Foundation. His software products, what they enabled people to do, and how ubiquitous they became, reshaped the very fabric of human civilization.
