Steve Jobs Passes Away

if you have something to firmly state about the cause of Layton's death or of Jack Layton's sexuality, state it - clear and precisely.

That's not really fair. In all of his many, many posts, he has never once demonstrated the ability to state anything clearly and precisely.

The idea of a "trash can" on the desktop may seem trivial today, but it was a completely diffrent way of thinking and interacting with a PC. The easier user experience became that niche market, no longer forcing people to learn arcane procedures and keystrokes. Apple ran with it, becoming the standard for graphics work. Other niche players like Silicon Graphics (SGI) withered and died.

And now, the idea of a trash can is too ugly, given environmental concerns. So now we have a progressive recycling bin. Leftism has even invaded our OS-GUIs!

Somewhat indifferent about Jobs' death. I was never an Apple guy, in fact i've never purchased any Apple product in my life. Not because I have anything against the man or company, other than the fact that I found Apple products very overpriced compared to the competitors. I have free Quicktime software on my PC because I need it to run some things, and I use iTunes to organize my mp3's, though I've never bought anything from the service.

I admire modern Apple products for their sleek and well-constructed & functional design. I just personally found better options for me out there (especially PC's with their better options and price). I was also never one to jump on the ie: tablet bandwagon just because it had an Apple logo on it. Jobs' was a fine CEO obviously. Jobs and Layton's death are kind of similar for me, I was never a big supporter of theirs but had some respect for them nonetheless.

But now as we enter the age of commodity limited-function hardware like tablets, smartphones and e-readers, Apple's philosophy seems to be the winner.

Well, a bit apples and oranges, plus a lot of people are jailbreaking their iphones/ipads etc. or opting for Android phones for the freedom and customization.

why be hatin', so much? At the time of Layton's death, your MLW status update messages concerning Layton's (cause of) death were bordering on despicable... not despicable in regards to whether or not they were true or false... despicable in terms of your implied negative insinuation concerning "life-style". Perhaps the saving grace for you was the fact there is no archive for board status messages. And now... you are a bit bolder... now in a post you've drawn "broad" attention to sexuality.

to allow yourself to be clearly understood, why not step out of the shadows of long-gone status messages, of broadly applied sexual innuendo - why not lay it out, front and center. Just as a matter of Oleg Bach stated fact, and for the formal MLW record, if you have something to firmly state about the cause of Layton's death or of Jack Layton's sexuality, state it - clear and precisely.

It was hear say - from the locals - one of which was Laytons neighbor. I questioned the person who generated this bit of hear say - twice and he said it was accurate. Whether it is to be believed or not is up to other to decide...What sort of life Jack lived was his own private buisness - and in all liberality and Jacks total support for sexual experssion and freedom - in any form...

I am sure IF it were true Jack would not be ashamed - but it would be catostrophic politcally - so lets leave it alone - Jack and his wife have been known to lie..but so have all other politicals...sexuality and it's variations is important to most people - for most social values tradtional and not are generated by this base behavour - so do you have a problem if Jack experimented in boarderless socialist sex? I don't give a damn - but you do - cos...maybe you know something that other do not - and wish to hide it. As I mentioned...it was hear say - and my belief in this report...is neither here or there....in the mean time...I suggest you refrain from useing me to damage the NDP - they have merit - dispite their possible lack of personal principle.

In your little mind the day that you as a kid got a calculator -You were thrilled beyond belief - now you could add as well as your grade 6 math teacher -now that is power and your life is much better....one and one are two - did you REALLY need a machine for that?

No, but I did need one to play engineering gigs. Remember, I never saw an HP-97 or 48+ in a pawn shop, but I saw plenty of guitars, drums, and amps.

Give it time the pawn shops will be full of objects of planned obsolesence...my spelling stinks. What I find gratifying is that - they forced me to take typing in school - that sort of gave me a rapid quasi-techo advantage - but I am sure with technical advancement that voice command will perfect itself and typing will become a thing of the past - as has cursive writing - My kid can not make hide nor tail of long hand....it is a skill and an art generated by my human bio-tech make up - which is pretty slick stuff...call me when they start to promote the latest applicationi that can talk on my behalf when I am dead.

Waldo....a message to you "why be hating so much at the time of Laytons death" - I'm not big on being moved with the mass on emotionalism...It was not Jack that brought on my attempt - It was the use of this mans death for political gain..that I thought was low....Just don't like the idea of mobilzing the drones via their heart strings - Jack was not a saint - he oringinated in an ideolgy that in some nations murdered millions of people - and revolutionaries such as Jack and his drones are the same types that murdered my grandfather for no good reason - making my father miserable and inturn making my childhood less than what it should have been...It was slightly personal - I just don't like mindless collectivism - or to treat their spear head leader as a saint - Jack was no saint - when caught in a body house - his wife during the election instead of saying Jack loved his pleasures - stated publically that it was a "registared massage therapist" and he was their for medical reasons////// When Oliva Chow lied - it made me wonder if they lie about a lot of things.

Nor will I -----why such a dreary interest in the very very private part of Jacks life - Jack never stated anything clearly and precisely...so why should I .....again how clear was the ceremony at this value muddle funeral - a departed Jewish secularist politican having his funeral conducted by a renegade gay Christain priest? Where is the clearity in that mumbo jumbo.

Well far be it from me to speak ill of the dead, but it seems to me that you people admire someone who did unethical things to become rich. He stole ideas from others to make the Mac OS a viable product. All his success stems from this act of thievery. I don't find that admirable at all.

Complete nonsense.

You speak ill of the dead...so the least you can do is demonstrate that all his success came from thievery. We won't ask you to explain the millions he lost at NEXT.

Ok. Check out this link.

That was only the Star pointing device and GUI concept, not the actual Mac OS. Apple was sued but prevailed in court. Apple was very successful with their "mouseless" 8-bit II series of computers at least 7 years before the Lisa and Mac.

Saw it on PBS

Well, we can't argue with what you think you saw on PBS, now can we? I mean, if some loser "expert" (i.e. journalist who knows nothing) on a PBS "documentary" throws around allegations of the "theft" of ideas, then that's that?

All innovation is built on previous innovations, it's the story of human progress. Apple certainly continues to engage in annoying (unethical?) business practises, but hey, we've already addressed that - and that isn't theft. Suggesting that Jobs' success was built on "theft" is ludicrous. It's just stupid rhetoric from an envious leftist who resents achievement and the creation of wealth.

The idea of a GUI did not originate with him, sure. But Apple's biggest successes came in the 21st century, long after the idea of a GUI was already in use by thousands of companies developing all kinds of computers and consumer electronics. What really brought it home for Apple was the iPod and their music distribution model.

It's just stupid rhetoric from an envious leftist who resents achievement and the creation of wealth.

Pretty much. Seeing more and more of that lately.

Well, you can argue with the loser "expert" who made their allegations in the link I also provided. See the next post down. They will be able to answer you right away.

You people have convinced yourselves that one man stealing from another is fine, in order to procure wealth, and you admire them for having done it and you express condolences now that they're dead. That's your thing. It's not my job to judge you for what you are.

But I would never do it. Not even if you gave me a million dollars. It doesn't matter how much money...

Not a leftist, not partisan. I try to decide things on their merits, and always defer to the rights of individuals. Not governments, businesses or those who hold absolute power.

Just couldn't stand the fawning, simpering over someone who dies, because he's a rich celebrity.

In my work I see people who are dying of cancer every day. Many of them are good, decent upstanding folks. They do good things for their community. Nobody writes them a tearful eulogy when they die. We all go to the same place, rich or poor, good or bad.

Sorry if I farted at the funeral...

Boo frickin' hoo....what a self centered pity pot you live in. I'll bet they get plenty of eulogies and obituaries. Who do you think you are...the keeper of the damned? Jobs made a lot more people happy than you ever will.

In case you hadn't noticed, we're not lining up here to worship at the altar of Steve Jobs. He's an interesting character and he had certain fantastic gifts that assisted him greatly in achieving great success in his life, particularly with Apple. Before you came in here, other much more familiar with Jobs' and Apple's history had already commented on real things about him and Apple, from his talents to his unsavoury business practices. But then you come marching in with the usual anti-success bullshit leftist rhetoric, spouting off about this or that crap that you saw from a bunch of likeminded resentful leftists on some PBS "documentary". It's already been said, the human story of progress is one of innovation built on previous innovations. And of course, the leftist hater in you characterizes this as "theft", because you can't help but hate success and the creation of wealth. It's in your political DNA to hate people like Jobs, we understand.

Me personally, I don't give a damn about Steve Jobs or Apple, and I think it's hilarious that people are literally paying homage to this man by placing apples in front of Apple stores and lionizing him for hours on the mainstream media and making absurd comparisons between him and Thomas Edison. I do, however, find him an interesting individual, as well as the story of Apple, from a business perspective. But I'm certainly not in your camp, the reflexive anti-success leftist who thinks there's no such thing as an honestly-earned dollar.
