scribblet Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Ahhh well, if you need the cash http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/provincialelection/article/1054002--ndp-invokes-layton-s-memory-in-bid-to-raise-money OTTAWA—NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is quietly invoking the memory of late federal New Democrat leader Jack Layton to raise money for the party. The revelation comes in the wake of a directive she gave NDP candidates this week not to trade on Layton’s name to promote their campaigns. Her campaign sent out an email to businesses last week looking for donations that invoked Layton’s now famous letter to Canadians: “My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear …” The email came from Josh Bizjak, head of labour and corporate relations for the Ontario NDP, who also signed an attached letter that made the pitch for donations. Notwithstanding Horwath’s suggestion that local campaigns should stop using Layton’s name, it has proved hard for some ridings to resist. In Ottawa Centre, the sympathy pitch was less than subtle. At the door to Anil Naidoo’s campaign office was a basket of buttons reading “Do it for Jack.” cont... Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
MiddleClassCentrist Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Shameless... Quote Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.
bloodyminded Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 "Do it for Jack"???? Jeez-us, that's lame. Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings
Sir Bandelot Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I don't think Jack Layton would have approved of it. Quote
PIK Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Even the provincial candidates are doing it also. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
fellowtraveller Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear Sigh. Bob Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 (edited) I don't think Jack Layton would have approved of it. Of course he would. He was political not just to the last second, but even afterwards. His whole final "manifesto" and subsequent politicized funeral (with full support from his family) weren't indicative enough for you? This is exactly what Jack Layton wanted. Bob Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 Let me say another this - the lionization of this socialist and placing him on this pedestal where he is viewed as a sort of political godsend is exactly what we should expect from the left. Where even in death he is still the "dear leader". Only the left would worship at the altar of a dead man. You never see such a sickening display of affection towards a politician than from the left and their perceived heroes. Layton and Obama are fantastic recent examples of this disgusting phenomenon where it's almost as if the supporters are wishing for some sort of benevolent dictatorship.
