Evening Star Posted May 3, 2011 Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 I'll say it again, the defeat of the Bloc and Quebec backing a Federalist party is damned good news, and I think Federalists across the country should applaud this. Now, whether the NDP can manage standing with one foot in Quebec and one in the rest of Canada better than Brian Mulroney ultimately did is an open question. They've got one kick at the can, so far as I can see, to prove that they can pull it off, so they'd better not muck it up. The one advantage the NDP has over Mulroney imo is that they could actually make the convincing case that Quebec's social democratic, pro-union culture is in line with the NDP's broader vision for the country. Being a country boy myself, I'll be glad the Tories finally have the clout to kill it. I'm tired of being treated like Marc Lepine. Rural Canada doesn't need Toronto's gun laws. Rural Canada doesn't need Toronto's gun laws. That's very right....that will probably be one of the first things that they do, along with crime legislation. I totally agree with her. People keep saying that the PQ are headed for victory in the next Quebec election... I say not so fast. No matter what happened, the NDP were not going to form a government. The NDP now has a chance to solidify their position rather than awkwardly trying to prop up some sort of coalition.
