That's a tough one. Good luck and good thoughts to them.
eyeball
...cadets still want apology... I've been trying for years to make our governments more accountable but...the man's too big, the man's too strong. Sorry about that, for what it's worth. Bryan
I've never understood the value (real or symbolic) of a government apologizing for something another government did (or neglected to do) in the past.

How come your parents didnt sue? I recall you posting about this some time ago.
M.Dancer
How come your parents didnt sue? I recall you posting about this some time ago. She was told that the liability waiver covered everything and with me walking and talking there didn't seem to be anything to sue about. What we didn't know was that some had to pay for their own sons funerals or that there was a conscious effort to keep us in the dark. Shakeyhands
Wow Morris, you lucked out there, especially in that confined space... It's a wonder you are here with us. Must have been an absolutely horrific thing to see and have to remember.
Smallc
I've never understood the value (real or symbolic) of a government apologizing for something another government did (or neglected to do) in the past. It isn't another government. Government doesn't simply end with an election.

M.Dancer
Wow Morris, you lucked out there, especially in that confined space... It's a wonder you are here with us. Must have been an absolutely horrific thing to see and have to remember. Each and everyone of us lucks out everyday...it's just some days the luck is more evident. In my case, my luck was to sit directly behind a kid my age, who was all that was between me and Lloyd, who pulled the pin on the grenade. The big luck was though, the grenade passed me by, because I already had a teaching aid, an M36 that had been sliced in half so you could see how the mechanism worked. Had my hands been empty, I might have pulled the pin.
GostHacked
Those are the kinds of scars that never heal. I could not imagine dealing with that day after day.
M.Dancer
Those are the kinds of scars that never heal. I could not imagine dealing with that day after day. You don't. You get over it and you move on. Some take longer than others, some need help to get on..but at the end of the day, there is more to life than one tragedy, no matter how traumatic. I suppose the whole point is, we were kids, and at the end of the day, we were told to carry on as if nothing happened. No thought was given to our emotional states, no follow up, not even a note regarding the judicial and criminal process that took place months and months afterwards. The one call I ever got was from the Regie de l'Assurance Maladie asking me to confirm that I was treated at the base hospital. Which leads me to believe that DND went as far as to insure they were compensated... Edited April 14, 2011 by M.Dancer
Tilter
How come your parents didnt sue? I recall you posting about this some time ago. In 1974 there were no legal actions taken in matters like this. Now, if a kid is hit by a car & his leg is broken the school has therapy available for all the students. Tragic for all concerned and the person at fault will never be found.
