Seeing I'm not from Ontario but hear a good bit about Finance Minister Dwight Duncan how well is he liked in his province? Not really just your own personal view of him but overall, is he fairly popular or not? I've heard him mentioned as the likely successor to Dalton McGuinty but an article I read today also said that some think he may head to Ottawa, could he be the federal Liberal leader?

This ought to be in the provincial section, but Duncan, even more than the rest of McGuinty's cabinet, will be tainted by the massive deficits, misspending and economic failures McGuinty has presided over. As such, like McGuinty, Duncan has no future on the federal scene. He also has no chance of taking over control of the (presumably much reduced) Liberal caucus after McGuinty because the Liberals will need to show a clean break with their free-spending, high taxing record of fiscal incompetence before having any chance of retaking power. Presumably he will retire from politics after McGuinty loses office in the upcoming provincial election.

It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

McGuinty's Liberals have been plummeting in the polls here in Ontario. It won't help Duncan much to have "McGuinty's Finance Minister" on his federal resume.

As an Ontario resident, I have no opinion of Duncan on a personal level. As to his province-wide popularity, I suppose it's measured in relation to the fact that he is the Finance Minister in a McGuinty Liberal government. If polls are any indication, a week ago, the Liberals trailed Hudak's PC's by 9 points.

As for Duncan's aspirations for the federal leadership, he approves of corporate tax cuts and expanding the prison system. The federal Liberals are presently campaigning against corporate tax cuts and increased spending on prisons. You do the math.

He is a 'heavy weight'

He is good for repoire with rotund Canadians - has a natural jolly slap stick quality that can be ever so lovable.

I'm sure putting him and ford in diapers in a circular ring would be a hit with the Japanese. (and perhaps that is what is going on with T. right now.. not good for future love from the great toronto to play economic hardball with your heart - maybe he could run in Alberta, sure fire hit)

He's not THAT overweight. But I think that is the image that has been burned into my mind. He has that I'm rubber and you are the glue debate posture.
