Holy crap! The NDP are closing in on Harper!

No kidding. If this poll is right, there's one very very happy guy...and it isn't Harper. The NDP has doubled their support. That's CRAZY.

If the NDP ends up with the most number of seats would Harper and Ignatieff gang up on Layton or would Layton be able to secure the support of one of them? Gee I wonder what Harper says about a coalition of losers now

lol if they did, the Tories would be destroyed in the next election.

I honestly have no clue what would happen. It would be some good drama.

Yeah, it's how Washington was elected. But why was it abandoned? Were there structural problems with it or was it simply that parties formed and became powerful? (My understanding was that the latter was the case.)

As you picked up, it was the rise of rivals. The temporary animosity between Adams and Jefferson (they started and ended their careers as close friends and collaborators) played a role, as did divisions on whether to lean towards France or towards Britain, and whether the Federal government should expand.

As we saw, though, the "anti-expansion" Democratic-Republican Party presided over a huge expansion of both the size of the country (the Louisiana Purchase) ant the scope of government. So much for dreams of town meeting government.

Layton would probably convince the GG to call another election since Harper promised not to form a coalition (paraphrasing).

Then Layton would win a majority government.

Okay, lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Nope the GG wouldn't do it. Not after we just had an election.

Oh please. If Harper did that, he will lose the confidence of the Canadian people entirely.

He would, but A ) it won't happen, and B ) there wouldn't be an election that soon if a new government that would gain the confidence of the House could be formed.

Small C is right the GG would have to go to the Liberals and ask them which party they choose. They would have to figure out who they back and that would be that.

Imagine this: Jack gets the most number of seats, cut a deal with the Libs, coalition or no coalition, who cares, possibly give the Libs a few measely cabinet positions to placate them, and cuts the Conservatives right out. Or gets a better deal with Harper, and cuts the Liberals right out. It's hard to know which would be better for Canadians. :D

Or if the surge continues could the NDP even win a majority government?

If the NDP forms government after this election, I'll eat my hat.

But your gonna vote for them right? They could use your vote in Manitoba.

I already did, but they won't win my riding.

The EKOS numbers are heart-stopping but... EKOS has consistently shown the Liberals and NDP higher and the CPC lower than every other pollster, right? We have Nanos suggesting a CPC majority and EKOS numbers that make an NDP government (despite a CPC plurality) plausible.

One thing is constant though....the NDP is on a roll, whether we're talking about Environics, EKOS, or Nanos.

Yeah...although it would probably go NDP before the ridings to the south.

The polls only show trends. Libs tanking, cpc flat, bloc tanking, and ndp rising. There is a 9 point spread in between the pollsters for the tories in the same time period. You don't know where the parties are, only where they are going.
