A gaffe is simply unbecoming of a constitutional expert? It's merely a gaffe? I might excuse Bush for that kind of gaffe but not a constitutional expert!!!

Presumed innocence is not a constitutional guarantee. Still, I don't see it as a "gaffe;" I believe it was inappropriate for Obama to be speaking as he was before the trial.

He is, and there is no such explicit presumption in the US Constitution. Such consideration is derived from Amendments in theory, if not in practice.

The Amendments are as much "Constitution" as the original Constitution. And I'm visiting family for the Pesach holiday and don't have my Constitution handy, but my recollection is that it is not written into the U.S. Constitution or Amendments. However, the quantum of proof beyond a reasonable doubt is deeply enshrined in State and Federal Court decisions, and is derived from English common law.

It's pretty safe to assume Barack Obama is dead wrong on this issue.

Already stated in far fewer words...the original point is sustained.

So Manning did not break the law?

Thanks for agreeing with me. I was explaining the situation for Canadians. Your carping is noted.

Up to the trial tribunal. If the accusations are correct, yes.

I guess I give Canadians more credit for knowing the obvious than you. Your patronizing is noted.

Legal conviction is different from actually committing elements of alleged offenses....but you already know that....I hope.

Canadians live under a different system. I am here to learn about their system and educate, where appropriate about ours. Your patent dislike for me is noted.

Noted, and relevant how?

Common Law in Canada came from the same source IIRC. I don't dislike you, but I will challenge you when necessary. Americans (and Canadians) have different views, and that is healthy. As stated before, if you want a more loyal friend, get a dog.

Manning may not be innocent even if acquitted. The law determines guilt, not innocence. Hence there can be no such presumption in a technical sense.

I've seen no evidence to back up claims of this Manning punk's torture. It's just propaganda from WikiLeaks lovers.

Security leaks that consist of ratting out the rats should not become a punishable offence. It's like saying that Billy the bully stabbed the beagle in the eye and then set the dog on fire....then taking the tattle taler - who sold out Billy and saying that he is bad and should go to jail - where the whistle blower is tormented - abused - confined to the point of spiritual break down - then depositied on a heap called domestic collateral damage - But the big dogs must set an example - that anyone caught telling the truth about their crimminal actions will face a harsh punishment...Yes - America is the policeman of the world - and a cop that takes bribes.
