Africa in their midst

"Newly arrived Somali immigrants have transformed small towns and cities throughout the United States into tuulas (Somali villages).

The process is underway in such places as Lewiston, Maine; Shelbyville, Tennessee, St. Cloud, Minnesota, Clarkston,Georgia, and Jamestown, North Dakota.

The Jamestown Sun reports that 400 Somalis have applied for public housing in the past four months.

The Somali immigrants in Garden City, Kansas and nearby small towns have created the Somali Community Center of Southwest Kansas in order to tap into public welfare programs. Within this section of the heartland, white Christians have become the minority.

In East San Diego, the newly arrived Somalis have created a Little Mogadishu. The streets are lined with Somali stores, shops, and mosques. In the midst of this ethnic enclave stands the Iftin Charter School, where K-8 students are introduced to Arabic. 99% of the student population is Somali; Arabs constitute the remaining 1%.

The American Somalis now display the highest unemployment and poverty rates in the country. They also remain the least educated. According to Andrew Liepman, the deputy director of intelligence at the National Counterterrorism Center, Somali-Americans face “greater insularity compared to other, more integrated Muslim immigrant communities, [which] has aggravated the challenge of assimilation for their children.”

This problem is crystallized by the present situation is Lewiston, Maine, where African Muslims, many from the Bantu tribe, began arriving in 2001 at the rate of 100 a month."

We have had our own problems with our somali squatters, ottawa for instance is filled with these people who are both unnassimilable and intractable. I remember reading of an interview with the favored wife of the most notorious Somali warlord, Mohammed Farah Aideed (who was already working with al Qaeda in 1993), was living in London, Ontario with four children. When challenged on this, she predictably accused the Canadian reporters who were trying to interview her of being racist.

they really must love it here!

but seriously, why do we allow these people in? I'm thinking of calling my MP to ask.... why!? what is with this insanity of trying to resettle these creatures here? Why do we have this automatic obligation towards them? Why is this our destiny seemingly?

This is the second time in the last couple of days you have referred to a black person or group as some kind of sub-human "creatures". I'm no lawyer and don't know the exact laws regarding hate speech, but you are at least walking a thin line.

I hope the moderators review your remarks.

Interesting....a thin line where? This web site is hosted in the United States, which has no such "exact laws".

I hope the moderators review your remarks.

Well, it's not like they haven't suspended privileges before.

Let us know how that goes, I'm curious what answer you'd get if you managed to get your MP on the phone and asked that question.

It is not our obligation or our destiny. It is a choice made by our society, or at least its leaders.

Do you know what will happen?

Their will be an HRC complaint and Ezra Levant will be in the unenviable position of defending a NAZI sympathizer's right to free speech!!!

We stuck together and even managed to preserve the ******* way of life back in ***** by sending home a great deal of money. In the US, ******* mobilized to preserve their culture. In ******* neighborhoods, ******* shops and other businesses sprung up. ******* made it a habit to buy from other *******. We kept the money in the community and we prospered. I remember my father would never buy from a 'mericano' (American) if he could by it from an *******. *******-American newspapers were published in major cities, immigrant-aid and fraternal societies were formed --i.e., Sons of ***** etc.

******* = insert name of most recent wave of immigrants

So ... does anybody else like to shop/eat in ethnic areas of a city?

I believe Toronto's most recent entry to the ethnic tourist-destination list is 'Little Ethiopia'- fabulous food! Funny how that diversity which is feared and reviled by some is celebrated and enjoyed by most.

I wonder how many times lictor checks under his bed before getting in?

Just wondering ... :D

I would like to take this opportunity to point out Somlia is just what lictor, Shady and other right wingers want the US to be. There is no taxes at least you don't have to pay them if you are rich, there is no regulation and the free market runs all. How is that working out for them again?

If anyone got called before the HRCs for something like this, I'd be forced to side with him.

In this case, that would suck. :)

and in other news:

"Somali-born Roosevelt grad pleads guilty to terror acts"

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009479125_somalia16m.html

@A Seattle man has pleaded guilty in Minnesota to terrorism-related charges in connection with the disappearances of dozens of U.S. Somali youths, some of whom turned up fighting with suspected terrorists in Somalia and at least one of whom became a suicide bomber, according to court documents and interviews.

Court records show Abdifatah Yusuf Isse, 25, a 2002 Roosevelt High School graduate and a former economics student at Eastern Washington University, traveled to Somalia to train with Al-Shabaab, a Somalia-based radical Islamist group that last year was designated by the U.S. State Department as a foreign terrorist organization.

His court-appointed attorney said Isse was likely being recruited as a possible suicide bomber.

He pleaded guilty to a single count of providing material support to terrorists—which carries a possible 10-year prison sentence—and has been cooperating with federal investigators in what the FBI has said in an ongoing investigation.

His mother, in an interview earlier this week, said Isse was a “good boy” who fell in with the wrong crowd while in Minneapolis.

{snip}

Isse and another man, Salah Ahmed, were named in an indictment unsealed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, part of what the FBI has said is a widespread and ongoing investigation into alleged terrorist recruitment among Somalis living in the U.S., including Seattle.

Investigators say as many as 20 young Somali men from the Twin Cities area have disappeared in the past two years, and at least three of them have turned up dead in Somalia. They include Shirwa Ahmed, an American who blew himself up in a suicide bombing against U.N. and Ethiopian forces last October.

Federal prosecutors say Isse went to Somalia with another man in December 2007, that he stayed in Al-Shabaab safe houses, was given an AK-47 and helped construct an Al-Shabaab training camp.

After a couple of weeks, however, he decided not to stay and he and another Minnesota man left the camp. Isse stayed in Somalia to visit relatives. He was arrested at Sea-Tac Airport in March when he returned.@

people will doubtless remind me that getting Somali restaurants is a fair trade in for this kind of behavior, but at what point is national security trumped by culinary diversity?

regardless all the arguments thus far enumerated by egalitarian leftists here for diversity so far amount to just that: culinary diversity...

ridiculous no?

Yes, Somalia, which hasn't had a government since 1993, is the only real-world example of pure libertarianism. If anything, it shows the extent to which this philosophy, while attractive in theory, is completely naive and out of touch.

what!??!?!

ahahahahah! how in the world do you figure that&?!

Actually by aggressively supporting an immigration system that takes in THOUSANDS of these Somalis, and thus bringing us ever closer to the level of Somalia by so doing, its actually well-to-do egalitarians and left wing liberals who are insuring that the US and Canada become a fetid and feral jungle like Somalia.

You mistake libertarianism and anarchy. The two are far from the same.

Anarchy is libertarianism when applied to the real world. Like communism, libertarianism doesn't work because of human beings' innate tendency to act strictly for their own personal interest.

No, a libertarian state still includes and advocates for a government that enforces the rule of law. That includes a viable police force and a justice system.

Somalia does have a societal heirarchy. The rest of the world would like to see them have a central government like everyone else has.

They have a clan system of government that shares power among the different clans. It has been difficult to establish a central government because the larger clans wants to form it while other clans want to form it. It isn't anarchy that's for sure. Andi t isn't libertarianism - although some libertarians do claim to be anarchists you have to also distinguish between the different types of anarchists.

Socialist or communist anarchists do not believe in private property. The Libertarian anarchist does which is a huge difference.

Some Libertarians, myself included, are described as minarchists or those who favour limited government and not a social engineering government.
