haper finally warns canadians...

Recommended Posts

harper has finally warned canadians that he will further drop taxes for corporations.

as i had posted previously, as an incorporated individual i am paying less tax than ever this year (effective tax rate of 8%). pretty disgusting considering that the poorest of canadians are paying an effective tax rate of 17%.

harper hasn't mentioned tax cuts for all canadians... just the wealthiest.

With your millions, cgarret, why are you posting here?

And if you're a small business person, and you're fooling around with numbers, wait and see what happens. In any case, no person I know who fools around on taxes would ever, under any circumstance, post to a forum about it.

I agree the tax system has numerous flaws. One of the minor examples is self-employed individuals. But any such tax advantage just attracts more people into the business and you wind up with the same at the end of the day.

You tell us your tax rate. You don't tell us your take home.

i tell it because its the neoconservatives worst nightmare. someone who is in the know and isn't afraid to out the lie. the lie being:

- everybody is paying too much tax. (well, i'm hardly paying any! and i only average about $100,000 a year. just think how little the big guys are paying).

the key here is to be incorporated and everybody who is not taxed at source and is making over $60,000 is incorporated.

no funny business going on... my tax accountant is highly respected.

so how about some financial numbers from other memebers here? fact is if you're taxed at source and a conservative then you are simply stupid.

if you aren't taxed at source and a conservative then you are greedy, selfish and don't care about some of the really wonderful things that we have in this country (universal health care a nice example). but... you're not stupid. you are looking out for #1, aren't you?

You mean you invoice $110,000 and you keep $100,000? (You claimed an 8% rate. If you said you invoiced $60,000 and kept $55,000 - I might possibly believe if you've got dependent wife and kids. But not $110,000.)

Sorry, don't believe it. Unless you've got a "push-the-envelope" accountant, or you are doing deals in a special sector with tax relief. What business are you in?

it is hard to believe for most people... but they don't have good corporate accountants.

talk to one if you don't believe me.

the big guys, of course, can afford to go offshore. this is when things get really interesting. ones canadian corporation is owned by an offshore entity whose shareholders are protected from view and thus avoid tax on any gains.

well august... if you must know.

i am an civil engineering consultant.

and no, i do not have deep enough pockets to go offshore. and would i?

if some elite few can and do then so follow i... but i would be the first to blow the whistle to the t4'd slaves out there about how its done.

no, i'm not going down with the stupid...

Harper said:

Now, I have some preferences as to the type of taxes we can lower by reducing corporate welfare. These include:

§ The elimination of the $12 air security tax;

§ The reduction of capital gains tax rates; and

§ The reduction on the business income tax rate, including cuts to the small business rate.

These business tax cuts are contingent upon us finding corporate handouts on which to cut back.  In other words, only when our government slashes corporate grants and loans will we offer companies a tax cut.

Here is the rest of the speech.

When it comes to personal taxes Harper has also talked about moderate tax cuts to personal income tax for low income and middle income earners.

The only thing that's disguisting is people who use the tax issue to pass a hidden socialist agenda.

And, if you're only paying 8% taxes, as you claim, then what's preventing you from paying more? Not me.

Leave it to Leftists to use taxes in order to spew venom against people who have a problem with high taxes.

As for this claim that rich people aren't paying their fair share, that's a load of bull. They pay more than their fair share, and you Leftists take every opportunity to make sure they pay even more.

The only people who have an agenda of hate against others are Leftists. cgaret's invective against people who don't share his world socialist view is just the latest example of that.

"Fair" is a relative term. The richest certainly pay less than they have in the past. That money helped pay for infrastructure building, which in turn laid the foundation for a good economy.

well dennis,

i'm glad you talked about "they" because it implies that you do not know "their" condition. i do, and i am amongst them daily. i also find it hilarious that someone would accuse left leaning as complaining about taxes when conservatives like harper can't stop talking about taxes!

no conservative government EVER has not dropped the taxes paid by big business substantially irrespective of "corporate loans and handouts".

the liberals here in bc are a great example. having skewered the ndp regarding this they are now the biggest handout political machine in canada. bc rail sold to cn rail usa (a huge political contributor) for pennies on the dollar, forgiving of fines to fish farms (political contributor), the hand over of bc hydro to accenture (off shore) and pharmacare to maximux usa etc... etc...

and "corporate loans and handouts" are not always a bad thing! when we as a nation want to be self sufficient we need to partner or drive industry in certain sectors. just not the sectors that are already healthy, wealthy and contributing to your political party! and to canadians not the foreign rich!

Conservatives are just as bad as Liberals when it comes to the corporate welfare.

Did you hear the squeals from So.Ontario about the end of corporate pork?

My prediction if Harper wins majority:

Cut pork for Bombardie.

Leave pork for So.Ontario.

As for going offshore, there are ways to go after the people who do so. The NDP is the only party that's talking about going after these filthy tax evaders, and that's pretty sad.

The Liberals would talk about it, if wasn't for Martin doing it himself.

The Conservatives would talk about it too, if it isn't for the fact that the party in general believes that the Rich should be able to evade taxes because the taxes they already pay are too high.

(And taxes will always be 'too high' for them.)

But talking the language of "fairness" and "accountability" while pushing a not-so hidden agenda? That's okay?

But then, given Harper's history, the company he keeps and the types that reside in his "cabinet", maybe his agenda is not so "hidden" after all.
