"Don't ask, don't tell"

If everybody bought into your ideology that if we didn't change and didn't have ideas to make things better

I never said that. I am very opposed to changing the things that make us who we are (in this case, the Constitution) without first considering very heavily the consequences of any change.

So your one of those who think Canada was a land of barbarians before the magical trudeau came in with his constitution?

Seems like Trudeau didn't consider any of the "consequences" of his "changes".

Why does Trudeau get a free pass on monumental changes, but the Tories don't?

You sir are a product of Trudeaumania.

Canada was Canada before the constitution, Canada will be Canada when the constitution eventually changes with the times.

Yet in this (and other) circumstances, "Charter Politics" was used to achieve the same changes, be it "gays in the military" (1992) or same gender marriage. Sexual orientation language was stricken from Charter workups for political expediency, as the issue was front and center by 1982 but no way in hell does it get adopted by Canada (or the USA) at the time.

We did have a Constitution before that. I think he made some good changes, and other changes were made before and since...and I expect it continue. Canada will be Canada as the people shape it through their representative government...and those people will make the decisions that shape the future. That's how I prefer it. I am, after all, the anti populist.

So Manning isn't allowed to make changes, Harper isn't allowed to make changes, but somehow Trudeau is?

Just because you don't agree with some of the changes proposed doesn't mean they shouldn't have happened. Western Canadians and Capitalists took our bath when the "great" Trudeau came along and took Canada on a course of his choosing.

Just because some of us don't buy into Trudeau's garbage doesn't make us any less Canadian than you.

I didn't say that either. Harper doesn't seem like much of a populist to me. Manning is...another story...thought that's probably because he never had the privilege of forming government.

Anyone can make changes if they get the provinces and the people on side. Unfortunately, Mulroney was not able to for the Charlottetown and Meech Lake Accords, but he did try.
