This is a very important idea....the same Canada that said "No!" to Iraq #2 and Missile Defense said "YES!" to Afghanistan. Nobody got "sucked" into anything.

We said no to these after it became apparent we got sucked into Afghanistan.

Notwithstanding that, and as you yourself have pointed out, Canada still had military personnel in Iraq despite the government knowing full well Canadians did not want to get involved. As I recall, you thought it was a real hoot to rub that little fact in our faces.

I dare say you wouldn't know the difference between offensive or defensive. As far as you are concerned, it is a campaign and that makes you sad.

As far as I'm concerned we should have left Afghanistan the very minute Bush shrugged and said Bin Laden didn't matter anymore.

To be honest though I knew we shouldn't have been there from day one.

Here's a newsflash, on MSNBC, one of the commentators said that Obama is thinking seriously of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, then instead of putting more troops in. Apparently, this leaked out of the White House and people were wondering who leaked it. Prehaps, Obama realizes with a corrupt government in Afg., US soldiers are dying for the wrong reasons.

Great, but Canada still has to stay until 2011. Bummer!

Except that the mission in Afghanistan is an offensive campaigne.

It's always been an offensive Campaign, from day one... one does not over throw an entire government, hunt it's soldiers down to close with and destroy them...Canadians knew this before we got on the airplanes...

To be honest though I knew we shouldn't have been there from day one.

How is that ?....even a dead clock is right twice a day...

I need to see a cost/benefit analysis for the mission to see what Im getting in return for the money Im contributing.

How about the people who support the military being used for global socialism pick up the tab instead of me?

This is a typical Canadian response, to most problems, it all boils down to the money, and what do i get out of it....Send me your pay pal account info and i'll send you back your money...god forbid that one of our citizens can't afford the 20 bucks a year that it cost you,to support this mission.... god forbid that you share any of that wealth with a people that really need it....

I knew we shouldn't go from the start because 9/11 was a retaliation, not an opening shot. We got sucked into a conflict that our allies very likely started years ago. As I see it we shouldn't be held to any so-called defence agreements with countries that foment conflict.

At the very least we should have held a full public review into our alliances to ensure we were getting into a just war. In the weeks and months following 9/11 it was very obvious to me that many other Canadians, even our Prime Minister for crying out loud, were expressing similarily based reservations about going to Afghanistan. Reservations based on the sense that events like our allies overthrow of at least one foreign government and tradition of support for other dictators and their regimes in the region around Afghanistan were the real root causes of this conflict.

It was obvious to anyone with half a brain what was happening before the dust even settled on 9/11.

Yes I would say this campaign was offensive right from the beginning. By the way, where's Bin Waldo?

Too late for that.....see Canada's role in Gulf War I, Somalia, Balkans, East Timor, Haiti, etc. Lotta "fomenting" going on, eh? Oh wait....when Canada does it...it's called "peackeeping"....not "fomenting".
