Britain, but that's not who you were talking about when you asked why we compare ourselves to them so much, was it?

This is what I had said in a previous post.

Does the Canadian identity consist of being not British and not American or is it more than that? Sometimes I wonder.

In another (more recent) thread, I was accused of missing the point:

It's not my theory; it's August's. He didn't have evidence, either.

In response, I posted:

Do I read far too deeply?

Let's see how this British award to Jean Chretien plays out in federal Canadian politics.

Well, how is Ignatieff doing in the polls now, Fall 2009? In particular, how is the federal Liberal Party fairing in Quebec?

And you think this is all related to the Queen's award of a prime minister, two governments past?

Next you'll be saying that the Republicans secretly had approval of the Nobel Prize for Obama.

Sure why not Liberals still too this day, infact there was a story about in the Star about a month ago, blame the NDP for Martins loss. Never mind that whole stealing money thing the NDP brought the government down 4 weeks early and caused the Liberal house of cards too fall apart.

Dobbin, I am not saying that the Queen's award to Chretien explains entirely current federal Liberal poll results - or even the federal Liberal poll numbers in Quebec.

I am saying that if Chretien cared about federal Liberals rather than his own vanity, he would have refused this honour. And I'm also saying that Stephen Harper seems to have made some wise political decisions in the past few months.

I haven't read though the posts on this thread but based on Chretien's record of success and his power to pull Canada together to form a majority the Country needs chretien to rescue Canada from the Corrupt conservatives. Mulroney wrecked Canada and his governance put Canada on the road of surpluses. If anything could be said about his era is when you approached the government for anything there wasn't the level of distrust you have with the Government under Harper.

Mississauga has a mayor, Hazel whose holding office into her eighties. http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/cityhall/mayor

Chretien appears to be in good health. Age is not a factor. Chretien needs to come out of retirement and rescue Canada from the corrupt Conservatives. I am not saying this because I like the Liberal Party. I am saying this because he has a proven record to the get the job done. Harper has a proven record of incompetence.

If anyone could put the terror of sleepless nights into the conservatives it would be Chretien. If Chretien unseated harper and formed a majority just for vanity and ego's sake it would be a pleasure to watch.

:P

You're still assuming there's some link. Yet, you've absolutely no proof. Do you also believe the theory that climate change is linked to the pirate population?

That exactly what you seemed to be saying.

What you seemed to suggest back then was that Harper gave the Queen approval to give an award despite any evidence to support it.

I'm fairly certain that the award barely registered with most Canadians.

What has registered was that there was a possibility of an election and the public rejected that idea if the polls are any indication.

Harper's problem now is that he can come down firmly against an election so any attempt to call one himself or act with the previous belligerence he has shown will probably take away the points in the polls so that once again he falls short of a majority.

You can be sure that the Queen's award won't weigh on anyone's minds in an election.
