Oleg Bach
There was a radio report I heard the other day. Two judges state side are charged with taking over two million dollars over a period of time in the form of bribes from the operators of private juvenile jailing facilities. The deal was that the judges were to increase what would be short sentences dealt out to youthful offenders to much longer terms of incarceration. There really is no such thing as a purely private penal institution - all of these operations are surely subsidized by the tax payer. With a longer sentence the profit margin would increase greatly. Too offer two million dollars to a couple of judges would mean that to make this bribe feasable would mean that the profits would have to exceed at least 4 million in this case. What I found irksome is that the Canadian talking radio head laughed and said 'bring it on - this would be a great system for Canada and an improvement to the lax sentencing of youth offenders... I was slightly shocked at this attitude that this person thought it would be okay to let corruption rule in order to correct corrupt youthful behaviour - that's a bit like the proverbial - "Satan does not cast out Satan" - what was more shocking about this influential Canadian talk show host was the subtle hate speech that is propogated and deseminated by him and others in what is a sorry attempt here in Canada to prop up a decaying status quo by stirring up the populace - and attempting to get them to except crimminal enterpise and the possible conviction of innocent young people so others more evil can profit.
