I don't recall wrists being cut, but the Liberal government of the day was roundly criticized, as it was widely perceived that the snub was intended as a reply to a less-than-friendly attitude towards the US in the Liberal caucus. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

OK....but the "tradition" would have the practical effect of snubbing many other nations...consistently. Is this a fabrication of the Canadian political psyche? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Shady Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I think you're right. He's coming to visit the President of Canada, but only after he finishes visiting all 57 states. Quote
August1991 Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) On the contrary, I read somewhere (looking for link) that Obama will be inaugurated as Barack Hussein Obama (like John Fitzgerald Kennedy) and then one of Obama's first foreign visits will be to a Muslim country, say Egypt. Having listened to "Dreams of my Father", I think Obama is one of those American liberals who believes that if "we were all American, we wouldn't be angry". Obama seems to believe that poverty, or racial confusion, is the source of the world's problems. (The fact that the September 2001 terrorists were rich Saudis seems to have escaped Obama.) ---- Obama has said that he will be inaugurated using his middle name and then he will travel to and speak in a Muslim country. Obama thinks that he can bring us all together. Listening to Obama's CDs, I thought that he sounded more like Adolf Hitler than Winston Churchill. Make no mistake: Obama is no Hitler but he's a young guy who has bounced around and thinks that he has the answers to life. He has a good turn of phrase, a nice voice and the fanatic support of millions. For someone of mixed birth, Barack Hussein Obama is no Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Canada-US relations were fairly good during the Clinton-Chretien years. And then the only thing that changed in 2001 was the US presidency and Canada gets blamed. ~ This thread looks like some attempt to brand Obama to be as dumb as Bush. I wouldn't be surprised if Right-wingers are already blaming the Recession and the two wars on Obama. Edited January 11, 2009 by daniel Quote

Peter F Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 No, this thread intends to demonstrate the foolishness of such poodle madness by Canada. Pick me! Pick me first! You got that right. I think its just small time media hacks looking for a story. But many suck it up. I still havn't got over Reagan and Mulroney singin'. Maybe Harper and Obama will sing 'We Are the World'. On the other hand I don't think Obama needs the BJ. Quote A bayonet is a tool with a worker at both ends

daniel Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 No, this thread intends to demonstrate the foolishness of such poodle madness by Canada. Yeah... right. I'll believe it when I see your later threads. The title of this one is telling. Any criticizm of US policy is anti-American and that's a sin. It's ok for anti-Canadian postings though. I as understood, it has been tradition for the US President to visit Canada first. As I had learned from a collegue, the only two Presidents who didn't visit Canada first in Canada's 135years were Nixon and Bush. That's telling. Quote

Of course it's anti-American/Canadian, but this topic doesn't constitute "policy". I as understood, it has been tradition for the US President to visit Canada first. It was "tradition" to have slaves in Canada and America too....then the "tradition" changed. It doesn't matter to me either way, but apparently the collective psyche of some Canadians pivots on this issue. Curious indeed..... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Smallc Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Curious indeed..... Yes, the way you interpret many things having to do with this country is very curious. Quote
