I really don't like what is happening to Canada. I understand why the coalition was created but as the same time, what are the opposition parties supposed to do? Hardly anyone came out and voted last time, so elections are getting sickening to Canadians so, either Harper get real or steps down or voters get rid of the Cons. I wonder what Harper would have done if Martin had did the same things to him?? I hope there is no violence between the two rallies. I just wonder what our soldiers are thinking when they find out about what is happening back home.

harper is a hell of a lot smarter than martin. That's why harper is in the PM chair and martin is raising sheep!

Yes, poor rich Paul Martin. He was certainly a smart man....the problem was, he tried to get to the bottom of a scandal that involved his party....and he was punished for it. The RCMP (as much as I respect and appreciate them) also played a huge roll in his defeat.

More money for Quebec partly I suppose, but the anti coalition rallies are professionally managed by the big unions. I'd bet they've been promised something, big time.

How much does a "Rent-A-Protester" get paid, anyway?

I could use some extra money for Christmas!

Crowd estimate was about 300. The crowd seeing Rae talk was also about that number.

I saw one estimate at 300, but most were in the 500-700 range. It was more than 500 for sure.

Rae's talk was also inside, with paid union personel posing as "grassroots supporters" complete with their pre-printed signs. The "yes" support is pure astroturf, and the latest polls are proving that out.

You must have been seeing another meeting on both accounts. The vast majority who attended Rae's talk appeared to be senior citizens given the gray hair.

You'd have to show me the cite on the crowd estimate because I got that from CJOB and CTV and the camera shots certainly seemed to appear to be no more than 300 people.

Not that it matters though.

Ignatieff is the new leader, he will probably distance himself from the coalition but keep aspects of it in his back pocket to keep Harper from pulling one of his stunts again.

Harper had to explain to the other parties when he pulled their funding that Canadian politcal service is a SERVICE- and not some free ride for politicals who want to create security at that tax payers expense. Being a political is a temporary position...you serve and you leave and the next servant steps in to do his duty! I believe that the other parties got the message. That the definition of power is the generation of power to the people and not vise versa. His "stunt" worked - he put it all on the line - to make sure that in the future - the idea of eternal political entitlement is curbed. Political life is a sacrafice - not a profit glory game.
