M.Dancer Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Platform to be released Wednesday also includes a carbon tax, withdrawing from NAFTA, a GST rise of 1 percentage point dedicated to environmental infrastructure Withdrawing from the North American free-trade agreement to negotiate a new trade deal that includes protection for human rights, jobs and resources.Imposing a $50-a-tonne carbon tax that would add 12 cents a litre to the price of gasoline. Using carbon tax revenues to fund poverty reduction measures and reduce income taxes. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/politics/home So in effect the Green Party platform calls for massive unemployment coupled with massive welfare programmes paid for by those who still have jobs and by those who one day may have jobs.... For awhile I thought that the Greens might breach the 10% mark, but this recycled trash should keep them safely in the fringe. Oh...they also want to double the train tracks....no word who will pay for that....given that if it would be a profitable idea it would have already been done, chances are those who will foot the bill will include those who won't be using it.... I concur. Be careful what you wish for, Lizzy. Once people get word of this and see how she performs in the debate, I suspect the polls will recede. The question is, will the Liberals be adversely affected by being in cahoots with a party running on such a platform, or will the LPC benefit from the Greens' inevitable relegation back to fringe status? cybercoma Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 My first thought... Install carbon tax. People go poor from tax increase. Use carbon tax revenue to help the poor (iow, the people who paid the carbon tax) Why not let the people keep their money in the first place? Quote

The two parties at the moment are like internodal transports.....they have identical policies with one being further out in left field making the other seem like an infielder....just like having 5 different brands of Colgate on the shelf. Keepitsimple Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/politics/home Interesting how the article clearly points out that Dion and the Liberals have plagerized the main points of the Green 's Vision document. So much for Dion being a man of great integrity......the Green Shift is his policy and the guts of it were stolen from a year-old Green document. A look back at the October, 2007, Vision Green document reveals just how much Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion borrowed from the Greens to come up with his carbon-tax plan, which he released in June. Whereas the Greens promised a “Green tax shift,” Mr. Dion labelled his plan the “Green Shift.” Mr. Dion also repeatedly uses a version of a sentence that appears in the Green Party document: “The Green Party will reduce taxes on things we all want, like income and employment, and we will increase taxes on things we do not want - things that harm people and our environment.” Mr. Dion has also copied the Green Party's plan to direct carbon-tax revenue toward measures aimed at reducing poverty. cybercoma Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Also, when people are crying about the price of gas going up recently, why on earth would a party campaign on the idea of making gas MORE expensive? Quote
blueblood Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 I'd like to see those who say the Greens are centrist make that claim after the release of this platform. capricorn Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 The Greens' position that a new trade deal would be negotiate to protect jobs reminds of Obama's position that trade agreements would be renegotiated to recognize collective agreements. Very similar. Greenthumb will love the policy position on weed. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
