PST and the GST

Recommended Posts

Wow...I'm back! If any one remembers me Im the super Conservative dude that used to always put down Layton and praise Harper. Man I haven't been on in a year or so!

Anyways...back to business. Does any one know the history of the PST in Ontario? Which government brought it in...what year, what party ect. And why is it at a whopping 8%??? Was it always that high?? And how come it is never a campaign issue...such as the GST in 2006?? You would think the PC party would be in favor of lowering it...unless they brought it in originally?? Anyways, your help would be great!

Thanks guys! I'm Back!

Premier Leslie Frost brought it in, hence the name 'Frost bite', originally 3% I think'. I guess it's a cash cow as is the GST so nobody really wants to get rid of it. It would be nice if it could be at least lowered to 5% then the total tax would only be 10%... a lot better.

Raise sales taxes - lower income taxes. Makes more economic sense.

Except for those whose income is so low they are effectively taxed on their total income as opposed whose income is so hign, they are taxed on ...say...10% of thier income.

It's time to cut spending and cut the PST.

Of course with the looming Conservative "depression" it would be ineffective and unwise to lower taxes and cut back services. As the need for services increases the burden may have to be shifted to taking more from the rich people in society.

There are too many government funded services. We are a welfare state now. If they are good private sector will fund them if not let them fail. If people work they will have money, if not they won't. I want to see a return of working for their welfare cheques. Cleaning streets and roads, picking up garbage.

We have temp agencies.

We need to reduce the number of city workers we have and can do this by putting welfare people to work for their cheques. The line of free money is over. The poor can work for their cheques at various things depending on exp. Picking up garbage, mopping city hall, answering telephones, clearing snow for seniors and other general community service.

This will also cut down on the amount of civil servants needed and will cut some of the bad unions away and save money. Maybe it's time a good and just union got some of the city contracts.

Talk about running around in circles.

The unions wont allow the reduction of workers to happen.

A "good and just union got some of the city contracts " and would attempt to raise the union menbership.

You sure you are a union guy?

You call 554 dollars a month money? If you are going to put them to work you are going to have to spend millions on repairs - most welfare types are destroyed mentally and physically. They are malnourished - they ahve constant dental pain - (they have to wait untill a tooth is ready for ripping out of the scull) there are no dental repairs. Then you would have to send half of them to detox in order to get the phrama product out of their systems - seeing they are a tax supported drug culture that big Pharma just loves and profits by..wait they are working already - for the booze buisness - the pill buisness and the ten thousand parasitic social workers that would be on the dole if it were not for their "clients" . They are to sick and poor to work a full day..poverty destroys...to late buddy.

*f they are poor and suffering they do so by their own choice. I grew up very poor and now I'm middle class. If I can do it anyone can. Anyone can get benefits from Blue Cross for $42 a month and that includes dental. They can work but they don't.

A temp agency called "Labour Ready" will pay people minimum wage for 8 hrs work and cash that day. I had to work hard to get where I'm at now so I don't accept that these people are helpless they aren't they're just lazy.

I was homeless when I was a youth and lived on the streets of TO for years not to mention just about every shelter they have downtown at one point or another but I worked hard and pulled myself out of it. If I can do it anyone can. I've been to detox many many times.

I actually lived it Oleg so don't try to tell me ok. Not to mention that if these people brush their teeth they will last much longer, that's what I did. Many of them don't. Plus there are free dental clinics downtown T.O. More so for youth but they're there. There is one at the Evergreen Centre on Yonge St. for youth 15-24.

You'd think I'd be a left winger after my experience but I've realized that the left wants a hand out and a right winger wants to work hard for what they want.

I've seen it all my friend. Been with the top of society - and the bottom...It was the tax dept. that screwed me - garnishment of 100% of my money...I was in the film buisness and like a fool I filed..they acted as if I had lucrative years and was hiding money - the one year I made some livable cash - they attacked me like wolves - I could bounce back...but I am aging and losing respect and interest in the system - I know it all to well...still - I am hopeful...not done yet.. Mr Canada - it was the left wingers I fought off to save my brother's kids in memory of my father and grand father that were harmed by socialist...I know - You work hard...you should keep what you earn and give charity on your own privately ---- I'm a bright enough guy - and I have talent..but running out of time - welfare destroys the mind body and spirit....it's like small amounts of herione - you become addicted to it but not enough to make you happy.

Also - you have my respect. More so than the investment banker I chat to on occassion.

Unfortunately you don't seem to realize that Blue Cross will only sell coverage to healthy people, and they asked if there is a pre-existing condition before a policy is written and accepted. If there is a pre-existing condition, IE; Diabetes, Heart condition, Hypertension, Cancer, and most other medical conditions you are automatically classified as uninsurable. so don't attempt to give people the impression that they can buy medical insurance for $42.00 per month, because it simply is not true. In fact any insurance company who offers medical insurance has the same policies.

That is only true if you're an individual applyiong for coverage at Blue Cross.

Company/corporate group policies are inclusive: if you are an employee, you're covered even f you and yours have preexisting conditions.

Follow albertas lead: lower income taxes, no sales tax.

How about you let me keep my money and store it...and when I want to consume something tax me. If I do not consume product then there is no carbon foot print...right? Tax consummers not producers...First we will have to figure out if the producers are actually making something of value....video games? We can live without..

Cut Spending, then cut taxes.

I hate how modern cons increase spending then cut taxes.

This has been the Conservative mantra for some time. Mike Harris actually outspent Bob Rae. (Hard to believe)

Harper has outspent the LPC governments.

It is part of that group of Neo Cons who came up from the states with this vision.

Break the bank, the services will collapse and then be privatized or eliminated completely. All money losing operations are to be in the hands of government and all profitable operations to be moved into the private sector.

It is the Goldmine and shaft mentality. Private sector to the gold, public sector to the shaft.

You probably won't hear anyone bring it up until Ontario has a surplus.

Now isn't really the time for Ontario to be slashing its coffers.

Unless you find someone dumb enough to think that reducing taxes and spending is a good way to get Ontario out of a recession, but that's unlikely.
