State Of Union - Canadance Where Was It ?

Recommended Posts

Canadance - or Franada for Quebecers - formerly 'Canada' was not mentioned by Bush in his election speech / state of the union address.

Good for Bush. Poland, Ukraine and El Salvador were cited. But not the daring, courageous and morally pristine Canadancers.

One of the finest moments this time took place during the president's discussion of the war on terror. Turning to the argument that the rebuilding of Iraq should be internationalized, the president deadpanned. "This particular criticism," he said, "is hard to explain to our partners in Britain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines . . . " As Mr. Bush continued -- ". . . Thailand, Italy, Spain, Poland, Denmark, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania, the Netherlands . . ." -- his audience began to laugh. Then the audience interrupted him with applause. And when he finally completed the litany of nations that have committed troops to Iraq -- ". . . Norway, El Salvador, and . . . 17 other countries . . ." -- the audience gave him an ovation.

source; Peter Robinson, former White House speech writer.

Will King Paul II of Canadance bow to reality and repair our foreign and military policies ? Will he defeat anti-Americanism in our media, political elite and educational systems?

Or will he say that the above while important are secondary to health care ?

Or does it even matter ? After all reality is relative.

Meanwhile the real world moves on.

Anti-Americanism is nothing new in Canada... it's been here ever since the Loyalists came here to escape the American war machine in the 1760s thru 80s. The feeling strengthened around the time of this thing called the War of 1812... when the US invaded our poor defenseless nation... Actually, anti-Americanism was a major factor in deciding to form the Confederation itself.

All in all, we're on pretty good terms right now.
